Aquatek Tropical Fish Reviews
Aquatek is a long-standing Austin tradition for fish pet shops. It had a different location farther south on Burnet several years ago that I actually preferred and probably gave them better visibility but now they are the corner of a strip mall and a little bit hidden from the main road. They have a large selection of both freshwater and salt, water, fish, and some invertebrates. They have a great selection of accessories and also have some supplies for terrariums. I wish they had a little bit more exotic fish, it seems like they used to a long time ago. They’re closed on Wednesdays so keep that in mind.
Mar 29, 2025 · Steve TakataThank you, Adam, for sharing your knowledge with me! He is so passionate about what he does and was so patient with me and my laundry list of questions. Will be coming back to learn more and continue my tank(s) journey. 100% recommend the membership also!
Mar 23, 2025 · Chelsea WiseAquatek is hands down my favorite fish store! The fish all look super healthy and active, which says a lot about how well they’re taken care of.Aaron, the owner, really knows his stuff. He actually takes the time to listen and give solid advice, whether you're just getting started or already have a setup going. They’ve got an awesome selection of fish, plus all the gear and supplies you need. I always end up finding something cool when I stop by.It’s a great spot with good vibes and people who genuinely care about what they do. Big thanks to Aaron and the crew—I'll definitely keep coming back!
Jun 18, 2025 · Julee PloofWe came to Aquatek as our second stop after visiting another local aquarium store that was spotless, vibrant, and clearly cared for, so walking into Aquatek was honestly jarring.Tank after tank was in bad shape. The water quality looked poor, and there was red algae completely taking over multiple tanks, like nobody had touched them in ages. The fish looked visibly stressed, sick, or lethargic, and in many tanks, there were a shocking number of dead fish, not just one or two, but several in a single tank. It wasn’t isolated. It was everywhere. The overall condition of the store made it clear that proper tank maintenance and animal care are not happening here. These weren’t just tanks that had fallen behind on cleaning; it looked like systemic neglect. We were so upset, we couldn’t even finish walking through the store. We just got too sad and had to leave.I genuinely don’t understand how this place has so many positive reviews. They have to be fake and it seems like some recent ones are written by friends of the owner. If you care even a little about fish health or responsible fishkeeping, avoid this place. It was one of the most depressing aquarium store experiences I’ve ever had.
Jun 23, 2025 · Emily JarvisExceptional experience for any aquarist. Their customer service is outstanding, with knowledgeable and helpful staff ready to assist all levels of hobbyists. The variety of fish is impressive, featuring a diverse range of common species alongside a remarkable collection of hard-to-find and rare specimens. All fish appear healthy and well-cared for in meticulously maintained tanks. A top-tier destination for all aquatic needs.
