The Petco location at 855 E Bidwell St in Folsom, CA, aims to provide a range of products and services for beloved pets, including food, toys, supplies, and grooming. However, recent experiences shared by local customers of this specific store have brought to light significant concerns, particularly regarding their grooming services and customer service response to incidents. This overview is intended to provide California pet owners with a factual and balanced perspective on the Folsom Petco location, based on available public feedback, to help them make informed decisions about where to entrust their pet's care and purchase their supplies.
Petco generally presents itself as a comprehensive partner in pet health and wellness, offering a broad spectrum of services designed to cater to various aspects of pet care. Their corporate messaging often emphasizes convenience and a one-stop-shop experience. However, the lived experiences of individual customers at specific locations, such as the Folsom store, can sometimes deviate from this ideal. When considering any pet service, especially one involving direct care, understanding both the advertised offerings and the real-world experiences of other local users becomes paramount for pet parents in California.
The following sections will detail the general services Petco typically offers, alongside a candid look at the specific concerns raised by recent customers of the Folsom location. This transparency is crucial for anyone in the Folsom area weighing their options for pet care and supplies.
Location and Accessibility
The Petco store in Folsom is located at 855 E Bidwell St, Folsom, CA 95630, USA. This address places it within a prominent commercial area of Folsom, a city known for its blend of suburban convenience and access to natural attractions near Folsom Lake. The location on East Bidwell Street is easily accessible for residents of Folsom and surrounding communities in Sacramento County. East Bidwell Street is a significant thoroughfare, ensuring that the store is straightforward to find whether traveling by car or local public transportation, if available in the immediate vicinity.
For California pet owners driving to the store, the location typically offers ample parking, which is a significant convenience compared to more densely populated urban centers. Its proximity to other retail establishments means it's often part of a larger shopping trip for many families. While the physical accessibility of the store is generally good, the core concerns raised by customers relate more to the quality of services once inside the establishment, rather than the ease of reaching it. For Folsom residents, this Petco branch is geographically convenient for quick stops for supplies or scheduled services.
Services Offered
Petco, including its Folsom location, typically offers a wide array of products and services designed to cater to various pet needs. These generally include:
- Pet Supplies: A comprehensive range of food, treats, toys, bedding, crates, and accessories for dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, fish, and small animals.
- Dog Grooming Services: Full-service baths, haircuts, nail trims, ear cleaning, gland expression, and various add-on services like teeth brushing and de-shedding treatments. These services are performed by Petco-certified stylists.
- Self-Serve Dog Wash: Available at select locations (and typically at Petco stores), offering tubs, shampoo, conditioner, towels, and aprons for pet owners to wash their dogs themselves.
- Dog Training Programs: Classes for obedience, agility, and socialization, with options for puppies and adult dogs, as well as private lessons.
- Veterinary Services (Vetco Total Care or Vaccination Clinics): While specific services can vary by location, many Petco stores host Vetco Vaccination Clinics for routine preventative care (vaccinations, deworming, microchipping) or may have full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals offering wellness exams, diagnostics, dental procedures, and outpatient surgeries.
- Pet Adoption: Partnering with local shelters and rescue organizations to facilitate in-store pet adoptions for dogs, cats, and sometimes other animals.
- Small Animals, Reptiles, Fish, and Birds: Sales of live animals, along with all the necessary habitats, food, and supplies for their care.
While these services are broadly advertised and available, it is the execution and aftermath of some of these services, particularly grooming, that have drawn recent negative attention for the Folsom location.

Based on recent customer reviews provided for the Petco in Folsom, CA, the "features and highlights" lean heavily towards areas of significant concern rather than positive differentiators. It is crucial for California pet owners to be aware of these reported experiences:
- Severe Grooming Incidents: Customers have reported highly distressing experiences during grooming appointments. Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
For pet owners residing in Folsom, CA, and the surrounding areas, choosing a pet store and especially a grooming service is a significant decision that impacts the well-being and safety of their beloved companions. While Petco generally offers a wide range of convenient products and services, recent detailed customer experiences at the 855 E Bidwell St location in Folsom raise serious concerns that local Californians must consider. The suitability of this particular Petco for locals is heavily influenced by these recent, highly negative accounts.
The reported incidents of severe grooming negligence, resulting in physical injury and lasting trauma to pets, along with a perceived lack of accountability and rude behavior from staff, are critical red flags. For Californians who prioritize the safety, gentle handling, and compassionate care of their pets, these experiences suggest that the Folsom Petco grooming services, in particular, may currently fall short of acceptable standards. The emotional distress reported by pet owners, including symptoms akin to PTSD, highlights the profound impact such negative experiences can have on families.
While the store's physical location on East Bidwell Street offers geographical convenience for Folsom residents to purchase supplies, the core concerns center around the direct care services, especially grooming. Pet owners in California are highly invested in their animals' welfare, and incidents involving injury, insufficient communication, and a perceived disregard for customer complaints are serious deterrents. Therefore, for locals evaluating Petco in Folsom, it is essential to weigh the convenience of its retail offerings against the very serious and consistently reported issues in its service departments. Pet owners are advised to conduct thorough research, consider alternative options, and potentially seek out smaller, independently owned businesses or services with consistently positive and recent reviews for direct pet care needs like grooming, where personalized attention and safety are paramount.

Petco Reviews
It's just past midnight Jan 1st, 2025, a fresh start, yet my mind keeps circling back to a traumatic event from March 2022. It was Lily's first grooming, a milestone I anticipated with excitement. Instead, the experience at Petco shattered my joy and left deep emotional scars. They shaved her down to the skin, causing irritation and even drawing blood. The sight of my once fluffy puppy, now resembling a hairless creature, was utterly devastating. The trauma didn't stop there. The staff refused to return my dog's leash, engaging in a heated argument and condescendingly denying ever taking it. Only after demanding to see security footage did the leash mysteriously reappear.Despite the clear negligence and the distress caused to my emotional support animal, Petco refused a refund or even a sincere apology. Lily's skin suffered, the regrowth patchy and uneven, her fur has never regrown the same, a constant reminder of the incident. The emotional toll has been immense. The anxiety of entrusting my dog to another groomer is debilitating. The incident triggered severe PTSD, requiring increased therapy sessions over the past three years. The memory of that day continues to haunt me, a stark reminder of the violation of trust and the lasting impact of the traumatic experience.
Jan 01, 2025 · Rose YinWent to this store today for a grooming appointment. Within 15 minutes of dropping off my dog I received a call that I needed to come back and pick him up because there was an incident. When I arrived they informed me my dog fell in the bathtub and busted his nose and his tooth. His tooth was cracked and his nose would not stop bleeding. Both the grooming side and the Vet side was trying to blame myself and my dog. No one at the store would take accountability for what they did to my poor dog. The Vet and the groomers were extremely rude and left my dog just laying there with blood pouring out of his nose and mouth. I instantly took him. I contacted Petco cooperate office and Folsom PD
Apr 25, 2025 · Bamababe 3Called to ask about fish and they told me to come down. I drive 40 minutes to get told that I'm 2 minutes too late on getting a fish. They stop doing fish 30 minutes to close (which I wasn't informed of over the phone). They close at 9pm on the day I came in. I walked in the door at 832pm, immediately ran into the manager, and he asked if I need help finding anything, I say yes I want to grab a couple fish. Then he hits me with "aquatics are closed".Cool.....Well then the gets an attitude like a 3 year old and says I never called. Then I proceeded to show him that I did. And then more attitude. Real mature from the closing manager. It literally takes no longer than 5 minutes to scoop a few fish. I wasn't even gonna be a pain and choose specific ones out of the tank with 30+ fish. I just wanted 3 of the same fish. Dealers choice on which ones. The best part is he had time to sit and watch me looking at fish food. But didn't have the time to help a customer.By the way I'm a long haired tattooed to the gillls kinda person. You know that look the look that your pretty sure is gunna steal something.....Yet all I wanted was some fish for my kid. Cash in hand ready to go pay and get out of their hair. Was it profiling? Was it laziness? Was it crap customer service?Probably a bit of all 3.It's 2025 drop the stereo types and do your job. It's customer service which back in the day meant help the customer.Anyways I get a lot of the bias from my looks and while some stores do what they are supposed to ...... Help the customer..... Others don't care and this store falls into the ladder.Long review / rant so yeah.Have a blessed day people and let's drop this bias crap already! 🙂🙃🙂
Jul 01, 2025 · Chris KellyExcellent customer service. Even using this tag maker was easy. I love this place. My new dog Dexter will love coming here for treats. 👐
Feb 11, 2025 · Silvie Kadlcik ParkThe good: usually well-stocked, mostly friendly employees, convenient location. Vet staff are friendly and it’s easier to get a last-minute appointment than at our regular vet.The bad: sometimes the hours are inconsistent with what’s posted here, opening an hour later or closing an hour earlier. The layout is terrible if you want to bring your dog - the main aisle has freestanding displays right in the middle that make it impossible to walk a large dog next to your cart. And grooming - well about a year ago we had an experience with a very rude member of the grooming staff and because of that we now do all our grooming at home.
