Petco Reviews
Let me start this review off by saying never buy any pets especially reptiles from this location. Staff is completely dishonest about the well-being regarding the animals they sell. I purchased a ball python from them back in October 2024 and I only did it because it was half off. Seemed like a great deal everything was just fine until a few weeks later I began to notice that this snake that was sold to me was completely infested with mites. Not only that they began to spread to my other python who was much older. They had a different colored one when I visited that time in October that I was interested in it. I believe it was a vanilla pastel ball python, and when I went to go check it out about a month later to purchase food for my two snakes, they put it in the back because they admitted to me that they had a mite break out and we’re trying to get everything under control. Unfortunately, after cleaning their terrarium, changing the substrate, and even buying mite spray; The older snake didn’t make it. The young one that I had gotten from them passed away about a month later. I didn’t bring it to this store’s attention, but I still was interested in buying that vanilla pastel Python off of them. In late December when the younger snake was still alive, I spoke with the manager because I was interested and she put it on hold for me and would contact me when it would go back on sale. I informed her that the snake that they had sold me was infested with mites, and it took the life of my older one. Yes, she actually contacted me because it went on sale and she was going to move it to the showcases behind the fish section. At the time because of my schedule, I couldn’t make it down there to get it so it would have To wait. Over the past four weeks or so I would call asking if the snake was available Because there was even an albino one that I was interested in. Two weeks ago I contacted the store and they told me both snakes were half off and they would remain that price until they sold. Earlier today, I called the store and spoke with a female associate. She put me on hold and checked and told me both snakes were available, but the albino one was full price, however, the vanilla pastel was $99.99 still half off. I drove all the way down there The city and first thing I noticed is I’m greeted by a security guard which is fine, but for some reason, he gave me a dirty look. I go to the reptile section and I see the albino one but noticed they had several others. For the one that I was looking at it was listed as $400 with a 50% off sign that said 199. I asked a Store associate for some assistance. I didn’t get his name, but he was a heavyset Asian male with glasses. He remembered me and when I asked him about the discount, he told me that was the best he could do. He really had an attitude with me and talked to me like I was a child and he was my parent. He explained to me that yes, the manager did contact me when it was on sale But then went on to tell me, “you missed out, you didn’t pick it up.” He told me $199 was the best he could do And if it’s still there in three months when the sale comes on again, then I could have it for the $99 price. At that point, he just walked away from me And didn’t even offer if I wanted to see the snake because it was in the back since it had been fed earlier. I was going to purchase it, but something rubbed me off wrong about the way this man spoke to me. I ended up leaving and calling Petco themselves to file a formal complaint
Jan 27, 2025 · Alexander MoralesI really like this Petco, it’s the least crowded in the area and they seem to be taking good care of their animals here. It’s always clean, organized and the staff is polite and attentive. Parking is easy which is the biggest plus for me. My only complaint is they are almost always sold out of the tank filter cartridges I need, the whole filter section seems to be constantly depleted. Those are definitely items that should be well stocked at all times IMO, this issue of course is not limited to just this location but most of the pet stores in the area. Not sure if people are buying everything in stock all at once? or if the manufacturer has a limited supply? I don’t want to have to buy anything online, I like supporting the stores.
Feb 28, 2025 · Nicolle HoltStore clerk Michael that assisted us at the fish section today was very helpful and knowledgeable. We had a few dying fish lately and he went the extra mile to explain to us what he found about the water source from the city that may have contributed to our problems. And it made sense with the timing and what we were experiencing lately with our tank and our fish. We loved being assisted by staff member that is knowledgeable and passionate at what they do
Feb 18, 2025 · Gabriel LaiExtremely Disappointing and Unprofessional Grooming Experience - Poor Staff and Management AttitudeI had a terrible experience with the grooming services at the Petco in San Bruno today (April 21, 2025). I booked a grooming appointment for my dog a month in advance and received multiple text reminders leading up to today, including one this morning. However, when I arrived for the scheduled appointment, I was abruptly told that grooming was closed for the day. What was even more upsetting was the completely unapologetic and dismissive attitude of both the staff member I initially spoke with and the store manager. They simply told me to reschedule, showing no regard for the inconvenience. This level of disorganization and unprofessionalism from both staff and management is unacceptable. Avoid the grooming services at this San Bruno location if you value your time and expect even basic customer courtesy.
Apr 21, 2025 · Aaron LiangIt's not often, in fact I've NEVER given a one-star rating anywhere.I have never seen a store so dirty as this one.We went there with my pet (dog) for the vetco vaccination clinic, where they did not fully explain the package they were giving me, and then up-charged me additional monies on my return visit for the second vaccination that I needed two weeks later for my dog, as it could not be administered in conjunction with the other vaccines. From the conversation I had at my original visit it was implied that that vaccination was included, but upon return visit they charged me more. There is no savings, in this case I could have just went to our vet. They separated me from my pet and did not allow me to hold him while it was being done, or even be present in the area. Oddly on second visit only when I question these costs.Original visit they did allow?Apart from these experiences with Vetco, I can say that the staff that work in the Petco portion of the store are very kind and helpful. And it is not their fault that the store is so dirty, it looks like the floor has not been mopped in over a year.EDITED TO REFLECT PETCO'S RESPONSESomeone called me who had no clue of the issues I even had with Vetco -- very disappointing.Whoever she was, she tried to throw $10 at the problem without even knowing what occurred, or caring. This is the worst customer service and handling of an issue that I have experienced.
