Petco generally offers a wide range of products and services, typical of a large pet retail chain. Based on common Petco offerings and customer reviews, the Belton location would likely provide:
Pet Food and Nutrition: A diverse selection of pet food for various animals, including dogs, cats, small animals, birds, and aquatic life. This usually encompasses various brands, specialized diets (e.g., grain-free, limited ingredient), and an assortment of treats.
Pet Supplies and Accessories: A comprehensive inventory of leashes, collars, harnesses, beds, crates, toys, grooming tools, training aids, and other essential accessories for pet comfort and care.
Aquatic Life and Supplies: A department dedicated to fish and aquatic setups, including tanks, filters, water conditioners, and live fish. However, it is important to note that a recent customer review specifically mentioned an "alarming number of dead fish in their tanks (over 70!)" at this location, indicating significant concerns about the health and maintenance of their aquatic section.
Small Animals and Reptiles: Some Petco locations sell small animals like hamsters and guinea pigs, and reptiles. A customer review mentioned seeing "some hamsters, quite a few reptiles," suggesting these animals may be available for purchase at this location, along with their appropriate habitats and food.
Self-Serve Dog Wash: This facility is confirmed by a positive customer review, which highlighted it as a "Great value! Great setup." This service allows pet owners to wash their dogs using the store's tubs, shampoos, and dryers, without the mess at home. The review mentioned positive interactions with employees regarding its use.
Professional Grooming Services: Petco typically offers full-service grooming for dogs and cats, including baths, haircuts, nail trims, and other spa-like treatments. While not directly mentioned in the provided review for this specific location, it is a standard offering across many Petco stores.
Vaccination Clinics: Many Petco stores host Vetco vaccination clinics, providing convenient and affordable preventative health services for pets.
Dog Training Classes: Petco generally offers various dog training classes, from puppy socialization to advanced obedience, aimed at strengthening the bond between pets and their owners.
Convenient Self-Serve Dog Wash: One of the key positive features highlighted by a customer is the self-serve dog wash. Its "Great value" and "Great setup" make it a practical and appreciated service for dog owners in the area looking for an easy way to bathe their pets. The positive interaction with employees regarding this service is also a strong point.
Range of Live Animals: The store typically offers a selection of live animals, including fish, hamsters, and reptiles, providing options for various types of pet enthusiasts. This breadth allows customers to explore different pet ownership possibilities. However, the severe negative feedback regarding the condition of aquatic life must be considered in this context.
Rewards Program: Petco offers a rewards program, which allows customers to earn points on purchases and services, leading to discounts and savings over time. This can be a beneficial feature for regular shoppers.
Staff Interaction (Mixed Reviews): Customer experiences with staff appear to be mixed. One review highlighted friendly and helpful employees specifically concerning the self-serve dog wash. Conversely, another review detailed highly negative interactions, including allegations of racial profiling and hostile behavior from management ("Kailey") and another individual ("older geezer") after the customer pointed out animal welfare concerns. This suggests a significant inconsistency in customer service experiences and potentially serious issues with staff conduct at this particular location.
Animal Welfare Concerns: A critical highlight, albeit a negative one, is the explicit mention of "alarming number of dead fish in their tanks (over 70!)" and a general concern for "outright neglect and abuse" of animals within the store. This raises serious questions about the animal care standards and management practices at this specific Petco location, directly contradicting Petco's stated corporate commitment to animal health and welfare, which includes rigorous standards, hourly health checks, and a confidential ethics hotline for reporting non-compliance. Petco's corporate policies explicitly state that "Petco's top priority is always the health and well-being of animals," and they have "high standards for animal health and welfare, both in our stores and throughout our entire company." They also state that "All new Petco pet care center partners are trained in proper animal care and handling" and "all animals must be treated humanely and with compassion at all times." The reported conditions directly contravene these stated commitments, indicating a severe lapse at this particular store. Additionally, PETA's investigations have also raised concerns about animal welfare practices at various Petco locations, particularly regarding betta fish and small animals, emphasizing that such issues are not isolated to a single store, but the scale of the alleged deaths here is particularly notable.
Allegations of Racial Profiling and Harassment: A very serious highlight from a customer review is the accusation of racial profiling by staff and management, followed by harassment outside the store. The customer reported calling corporate customer support and being informed that they were "not the first customer to call about targeting and bad behaviour from associates from this location." Petco's Code of Ethics and Conduct explicitly states a commitment to providing a workplace free of "harassment or discrimination of any sort and especially harassment or discrimination based on gender, age, race, color, creed, religion, national origin," and that they "will not tolerate" such behavior. This direct conflict between customer experience and corporate policy points to a significant breach of ethical standards at this specific store, demanding serious attention and intervention from Petco's corporate level. The customer also mentioned considering filing a police report for the harassment.

The store’s convenient location and the presence of services like a self-serve dog wash offer practical benefits for daily pet care needs. The positive feedback regarding the self-serve dog wash and the helpfulness of some employees in that context suggest that certain aspects of the store do meet customer expectations.
However, it is crucial for local patrons to be aware of the serious concerns raised in recent customer reviews, specifically regarding alleged racial profiling, harassment, and severe issues with animal welfare, including a high number of reported dead fish. These are significant deviations from a positive customer experience and Petco's stated corporate policies on animal care and non-discrimination. While the store offers essential products and a convenient dog wash, potential customers should consider these reported issues when deciding whether this location meets their standards for ethical treatment of both animals and people. For those who prioritize humane animal conditions and respectful customer service, verifying current conditions or exploring alternative local options in Missouri might be a prudent step, particularly given the severity of the reported incidents and the alleged history of similar complaints at this location.

Petco Reviews
I had an incredibly upsetting experience at Petco. After purchasing a frog and returning it the same day, I was racially profiled by the staff. The associate initially had no issue with my return, but the moment my companion and I discussed the alarming number of dead fish in their tanks (over 70!), their demeanor completely changed. The manager, Kailey, instructed the associate to treat us differently, clearly targeting us based on our race. This behavior is unacceptable and deeply hurtful. Not to mention we were followed out of the store by an older geezer that was shouting at us saying our skinoil was killing the fish not their negligence. Very odd behavior, will be filing a police report for the harassmentAdditionally, the state of the store is alarming. The tanks were full of dead fish, and it’s clear there is a serious problem with animal care here. This is not just poor management—it’s outright neglect and abuse.I cannot recommend this Petco location to anyone who values respect or humane treatment of animals. This was an infuriating and heartbreaking experience.***update to orignal reviewTo Miss.Haley the alleged”customer” who witnessed us be “rude to the workers” you don’t need to act as if you were a customer, just state you’re an employee. :)you left a review two second after I did, 2 hours after the accident. (No calculator needed to connect the dots)I originally was going to just leave the review until I saw the fake reviewI decided to call customer support the following day.I was informed I was not the first customer to call about targeting and bad behaviour from associates from this location. Very sad.I do hope the management was changed and the staff was trained correctly. It was clear in the moment, I was not the only person that experienced this treatment and the phone call with customer service solidified it.doing simply too much, expect for your jobs.Like we had told you when you accused of us killing 70+ fish who were clearly dead for days. (A 5 year old with a half a Brain would know that wouldn’t add up)“The water shouldn’t be coving the vent, it’s sucking the fish in and killing them”.
Dec 03, 2024 · tara melodyI used the self service dog wash. Great value! Great setup. The employees were awesome. I felt bad leaving such a big mess behind but they assured me it was no big deal. I’ll definitely go back.
Jun 07, 2025 · Mike JonesTook 4 mo old Corgi to be washed, nails clipped and ears clipped. Paid and came back to watch. The young girl could barely get my dog blow dried. They skipped everything else because they couldn't control him. Didn't even offer me a refund on the services they couldn't do. Will never return.
Jun 26, 2025 · Tom SechlerThe lady who helped us was awesome however the manager Terry was horrible he said if we bought a ferret for my son he would give 25 percent off if it was purchased today but when it came time to check out he said he couldn't do the discount and my son had already picked one out so I had no choice but to pay the price. However once you say you can do something you should absolutely do it so everyone be aware the managers word don't mean anything when it comes time to check out
Feb 14, 2025 · Rodney HowardAll the basics for pet care you need. If they don't have it on the shelf, the staff are awesome and always focused on quality service. You may have a short wait in line to check out... but the genuine service with a smile is worth the wait. Highly recommend this location.
