All Pets Animal Hospital Introduce
For pet owners in Ames and the surrounding communities of Iowa, finding a veterinary partner that offers both comprehensive services and compassionate care is a top priority. **All Pets Animal Hospital**, located conveniently on East 2nd Street, is a well-established, full-service animal hospital and boarding facility dedicated to providing quality treatment for a wide variety of companion animals, including dogs, cats, pocket pets, reptiles, birds, and other more exotic pets. Established in 1984 by Dr. Audrey Ricklefs, this hospital has built a long-standing reputation in the Ames community for its dedication to creating a happy, healthy, and long-lasting relationship between pets, their families, and the veterinary team.
The philosophy at All Pets Animal Hospital is rooted in treating every patient as a member of the family, and this belief translates into a practice that emphasizes personalized care, clear communication, and a gentle approach. The team understands that a visit to the veterinarian can be stressful for both the pet and the owner. This is why they strive to make the experience as comfortable as possible, always prioritizing your pet's well-being and working to address your concerns and difficulties with openness and empathy.
The scope of care provided extends well beyond basic wellness checks. The facility is equipped to handle complex medical issues, advanced surgical procedures, and in-house diagnostics, ensuring that your pet can receive almost all necessary care in one familiar location. From managing chronic pet illnesses and performing routine surgical care like spaying and neutering, to offering specialized services like exotic pet care and comprehensive pet dental care, All Pets Animal Hospital aims to be the single, reliable resource for all your pet’s health needs throughout every stage of their life in Central Iowa.
The deeply caring approach is highlighted in feedback from the local community. For example, customers have shared stories of the team going above and beyond, such as working closely with the owners of a rescued rabbit requiring extensive treatment to help save its life, noting that the staff "truly cares about people and their pets." Even in the most difficult times, such as when a pet sadly must be put down, clients have praised the hospital's team for being "compassionate and kind," reinforcing the trust that makes this practice a preferred choice for many Iowa pet families. This blend of medical excellence and profound compassion is what truly sets this Ames institution apart.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- I can't thank All Pets enough, we rescued a rabbit and he needed extensive treatment. They worked with us and helped us save his life. Now he is so much happier and healthier. The Vet is an amazing person and vet she truly cares about people and their pets July 26 · Crystal Helms
- This practice is so friendly and professional. I took my rabbit there with a back problem and was informed that a broken back is critical and there is not a treatment for it other than time and anti-inflammatory meds. My rabbit did not improve and sadly had to be put down. They were so compassionate and kind to my bunny. This is the only place I will ever take my pets. April 07 · All Pets Animal Hospital
- Dr. Ricklefs is a consummate professional and caring veterinarian with an exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. We bring all our Maine Coons there, most recently 7-month 13.5-pound Thor. He has two sisters, Siggy and Freya, patients of All Pets since birth. Thor's doing marvelously well after neutering and already is hungry, bringing me a midnight snack (stole from cupboard). He was so appreciative he bought Dr. Ricklefs a cake! August 16 · Michael Bugeja
- When I first made an appointment and brought my cat in, the staff was very nice and easy to work with. Note this was during COVID restrictions, so I was not allowed inside with my cat who was about a year old at the time. I brought her in a crate, they took her from my car, and they brought her back out nearly 2 hours later. The nurse told me they were unable to give her shots because she was aggressive (I had never seen my cat be aggressive in any way previously), and they also failed to mention she was covered head to tail in her own pee. I realized immediately and had to give her a bath when we got home, which was not fun for either of us.. The vet had me buy some anxiety meds for another appointment, which did not work, so I purchased 2 additional medications to try (per their recommendation). After spending $80 and many hours on 3 separate vet trips, I nearly gave up. The third trip I insisted on going in with her, and they were able to do the shots with that combo of meds. Ever since that first visit, my cat is very skeptical of new people and places, and is terrified of any vets office. I don’t know what happened behind those closed doors, but it was traumatizing enough to change the entire attitude of my cat around new people. It breaks my heart that she still has issues with trusting new people, and I truly think this vet plays a large role in that. Staff was great with me, but terrible with my fur baby. Would not recommend if your fur baby needs some extra TLC to feel comfortable. July 24 · Morgan Banker
- Worst place to take an animal. I took my rabbit there. She said that he would be OK. Ay and now that I'm having issues, she will not stop calling even after I told her to she's just keeps recommending me to go to other places now because she has no clue on what to do. Save your money from the stiff of a lady. And go to a better vet clinic. April 04 · mark stanley
