My family and I had complete trust in Dr.Sturla when we had to get our puppy neutered. We were encouraged because only one testicle dropped. We were told it was not a procedure that had to get done at a hospital so we had Dr. Sturla do it. Fast forward- he told us when we picked bubba up that day, he could not retrieve the one testicle because it was”attached to his bladder” and we would have to wait a month and get it removed at garden state animal hospital. We brought him home and that night into the next morning he was bleeding out of his penis. I called first thing in the morning and they didn’t seem too worried. After an hour I demanded for him to be seen because he didn’t look good and was still bleeding. I brought him in, dr.sturla advised me to go to garden state. Well. My puppy winded up in ICU for 10 days. Found out that his organs were moved around and he almost died. His bladder was purple, ave if it turned black they would have had to put him down. While he was his surgery we found out his testicle was actually on the complete opposite side of where Dr.Sturla went in- and he mistakened his testicle for his prostate. What was more horrific was that I had to reach out to Dr. Sturla during this awful time to express my concerns. He didn’t even call the first couple of days that my puppy was in ICU. Now 1 year later, Bubba has been diagnosed with Permanent nerve damage. We have gone to every internist in NJ to find a solution because now our puppy is permanently incontinent. He is a 140lb mastiff that has to wear a diaper and he in a significant amount of medications the rest of his life. While he was under the care of the surgeons at Garden State hospital we were encouraged to file a malpractice lawsuit. We did not want to take that route, but we were told most likely the damage would be permanent. We did move forward, but in the state of NJ if you do not have an affidavit of merit signed stating the doctor messed up- than you can not more forward with the lawsuit. And of coarse the Chief of staff at garden state would not throw Dr. Sturla under the bus. Everyone makes mistakes. But my problem is- own up to it and make it right. I have lost my job due to having to be home to give his meds every 8 and 12 hours. He is currently on a total of 36 pills a days! He also gets frequent UTI’s and bacteria infections. My monthly visits with the internist is almost $1000 a month plus close to 20k in hospital visits and surgery’s . My family and I had stopped by Dr. Sturla’s office before Christmas with all our Vet bills in hopes he would do the right thing by helping us. He did not seem to have one bit of remorse which is awful, considering he is supposed to love animals. My family and I refuse to put our dog down and do whatever we need to do because he is so young and such a gentle giant. I hope this post is seen my Dr.Sturla and his wife. I will keep writing reviews and dropping off receipts until something is done about this. - laura moe

  • Cost-Conscious Approach: As noted in one customer review, the clinic, specifically Dr. Sturla, is perceived by some as mindful of costs, aiming to keep expenses down for pet owners while treating their animals. This can be a significant factor for individuals looking for affordable veterinary care without compromising on necessary treatment. The review mentioned treating a cat for diarrhea and keeping costs down, which resonates with pet owners seeking efficient and economical solutions.

  • Affectionate Staff Interactions: The staff's interaction with pets is highlighted as a positive feature, with a customer noting how the staff "baby talked to my cat" and how "Dr. Sturla loved my cat and it showed." This demonstrates a level of genuine affection and care for the animals, which can be very reassuring for pet owners and contribute to a more positive experience for the pets themselves. • Varied Client Experiences: It is important to note that client experiences can vary significantly. While some clients praise the clinic's cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and compassionate interactions, others have reported extremely concerning and negative experiences, as detailed in one review concerning a complex surgical case and its severe aftermath. This particular review describes a highly distressing situation involving a neuter procedure, alleged misdiagnosis, subsequent severe complications requiring extensive emergency care at another facility, and permanent health damage to the pet, leading to significant emotional and financial distress for the owner.
