Their comprehensive approach ensures that they can address a broad spectrum of your pet's health needs, from preventative care to advanced diagnostics and treatments.
Preventative and Wellness Care: This includes routine wellness exams, physical assessments, and consultations on nutrition, weight management, and behavior. These regular check-ups are fundamental for maintaining overall health and detecting potential issues early.
Vaccinations: Essential vaccinations for both canines (DHPP, DHLPP, Leptospirosis, Bordetella, Rabies, Lyme Disease, Canine Influenza) and felines (FVRCP, Feline Leukemia, Rabies) are provided to protect pets from common and serious infectious diseases.
Diagnostic Services: The hospital utilizes various diagnostic tools to accurately identify underlying health conditions. This includes in-house laboratory testing (fecal float, heartworm test, parvo test, FIV/FELV combo test) as well as digital X-rays and ultrasound capabilities.
Surgical Procedures: APAWS offers routine surgical services such as canine spay, canine neuter, and feline spay and neuter. They also perform dental cleanings, a crucial aspect of overall pet health.
Technician Services: A range of vital technician-assisted services are available, including anal gland expression, nail trims, pet microchipping for identification, and ear cleaning, all contributing to your pet's comfort and hygiene.
Pharmacy: For the convenience of clients, prescriptions can be requested and refilled through their online store, email, or a 24-hour pharmacy line.
Emergency and Urgent Care: While appointments are typically scheduled, the hospital aims to accommodate emergencies during clinic hours. It's advised to call ahead in an emergency so staff can provide guidance.
Mission-Driven Services: Beyond general public services, APAWS also provides low-cost veterinary services to area rescues and assists local law enforcement by offering temporary holding and medical care to animals involved in cruelty or neglect cases, highlighting their commitment to animal welfare.
APAWS Veterinary Hospital, like any local business, elicits a range of experiences from its clientele. Here are some key features and highlights, drawing from both positive and critical feedback from Michigan pet owners:
Compassionate and Patient Care for Anxious Pets: A significant highlight, as noted by a positive reviewer, is the ability of certain staff members, specifically mentioning "Dr. Brown and Sue," to be "very patient and nice" with highly "stressed out and anxious" dogs. This indicates a genuine commitment to making pets as comfortable as possible during what can be a challenging experience, leading to "definitely one of our better experiences at the vet." This focus on reducing pet anxiety is a valuable asset for owners of nervous animals.
Skilled Veterinary Technicians: The critical review, despite its overall negative tone, does acknowledge that "the technicians have always been really good handling" the dog. This suggests a consistent level of competence and gentle handling from the veterinary support staff, which is a vital component of any good animal hospital.
Community and Rescue Support: APAWS is noted as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides low-cost veterinary services to area rescues and assists local law enforcement with animals involved in cruelty or neglect cases. This mission-driven approach demonstrates a broader commitment to animal welfare beyond just clinic patients, which can be a significant draw for community-minded pet owners in Michigan.
Potential Inconsistency in Veterinarian Approach (Critical Feedback): A key concern raised in a critical review points to an alleged inconsistency in veterinarian handling, where a "new vet who wasn't comfortable around animals" wanted to sedate a dog for routine shots, despite technicians handling the dog well previously. This suggests that while some vets might excel with anxious pets, others may have a different approach that doesn't align with all owners' expectations.
Communication and Blame Concerns (Critical Feedback): The critical review also highlights communication issues, specifically mentioning being "blamed... for not bringing him for check up enough." This indicates a potential area for improvement in client communication, where some clients may feel unfairly chastised rather than supported or educated.
Full-Service Offerings: The hospital provides a comprehensive suite of services from vaccinations to surgery and diagnostics, offering a one-stop solution for many common pet health needs.

APAWS Veterinary Hospital Reviews
I have a very stressed out and anxious pittie when it comes to the vet. Dr. Brown and Sue were very patient and nice to make him as comfortable as possible! Definitely one of our better experiences at the vet.
Jun 12, 2025 · Lauren ElizabethThey were good with my dog for the first year of his life and after two years they got a new vet who wasn't comfortable around animals, wanted to sedate my dog to give him his shots. Funny thing is the technicians have always been really good handling him it was the actual veterinarian who didn't understand how to handle a dog. Then her little minion, another veterinarian who I had never seen before, blamed me for not bringing him for check up enough. No, you guys just don't know what you're doing and you need to accept that.
Jun 22, 2025 · Stephen SaldivarLove this place. My 1 yr old American Bulldog is extremely hyper, and the staff is super patient with him. They're also very affordable.
Mar 05, 2025 · Shannon “Mother of Misfits 22”Very shameful Vet. 1. Was told to pick up at a way different time than what was told, then called multiple times in a row KNOWING I could not pick up my cat from her spay surgery till the time I was GIVEN. People have jobs and have to make arrangements. 2. very messy glue job on the incision. Her incision opened, and got infected in 3 days. The paperwork I got said “call right away” but there is NO after hours on call service, and I left a voicemail. NO CALL BACK EVER. I had to take my cat to the ER for antibiotics. They forwarded the records, STILL NO CALL. The ER even said the glue job for the incision was deffinitely some of the worst work they have seen. My poor cat. HOW shameful to do a terrible job, I call to inquire on it and then doesn’t call back???? I would have been better off with a vet who charges way more, and actually knows how to do sutures, rather than pay Apaws AND an ER bill. I’m so sick over this and I haven’t told everyone I know not to come here.
