Thomson Animal Clinic provides a variety of veterinary services designed to address the health and wellness of cats and dogs. While specific service lists can vary and are best confirmed directly with the clinic, general veterinary practices typically offer the following, which are crucial for maintaining pet health:
Comprehensive Wellness Exams: Regular check-ups are fundamental for preventative care, allowing veterinarians to assess overall health, detect early signs of illness, and provide guidance on diet, exercise, and behavior.
Vaccinations: Essential for protecting pets against common and serious infectious diseases. A tailored vaccination schedule helps ensure pets are safe from local health threats.
Diagnostic Services: This includes a range of in-house laboratory tests (e.g., blood work, urinalysis, fecal exams) and imaging services (e.g., X-rays, ultrasound). These tools are critical for accurately diagnosing illnesses and conditions.
Parasite Prevention and Control: Guidance and products for preventing and treating fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal parasites, which are common concerns for pets in Michigan.

Thomson Animal Clinic possesses several features that make it noteworthy for Michigan pet owners:
Expertise with Anxious Pets: A significant highlight, as indicated by a customer review, is the clinic’s ability to successfully handle nervous or stressed animals. Longevity in the Community: The clinic has served the St. Clair Shores community for many years, as evidenced by a customer who attended for "20 some years." This history can often indicate a deep understanding of local pet health trends and a long-standing commitment to the area.

Thomson Animal Clinic, located in St. Clair Shores, MI, presents itself as a suitable option for local pet owners seeking veterinary care, albeit with considerations based on recent changes and past experiences. For many Michigan residents, particularly those with anxious or high-strung pets, the clinic's demonstrated ability to compassionately and effectively handle challenging situations, as evidenced by a positive review about drawing blood from a nervous dog, is a significant advantage. The patience and innovative techniques used by the veterinary staff, such as allowing owners to comfort their pets and using specialized needles, create a more positive experience for both animal and owner. This level of empathy and skill can alleviate much of the stress associated with vet visits for sensitive pets.
However, it is crucial for local users to be aware of the shift in ownership and the differing experiences under the new management. One long-standing customer expressed extreme dissatisfaction with the new ownership, specifically citing an inability to work within budget constraints and a perceived lack of empathy from "Doctor Jill" regarding a dog's health needs without immediate upfront payment. This review starkly contrasts with the positive experience of the previous owner, "Doctor Munich," who was praised for his willingness to discuss solutions and offer payment plans.
This mixed feedback highlights that while the clinic maintains its capability in handling difficult cases and providing standard veterinary services, the approach to client relations and financial flexibility may have changed. For Michigan locals considering Thomson Animal Clinic, it would be wise to discuss financial policies and treatment approaches upfront to ensure they align with their expectations and budget.
Despite the concerns raised by the change in ownership, the clinic's continued operation and the positive anecdote regarding the handling of an anxious pet suggest that the clinic still possesses capable medical staff. Its convenient location in St. Clair Shores remains a benefit for local accessibility. Ultimately, for Michigan pet owners, Thomson Animal Clinic could be a good fit if their primary concern is skilled handling of anxious pets and if they are prepared to discuss financial arrangements clearly beforehand. The clinic's long history in the community indicates a foundational commitment to local pet health, even as it navigates new management.

Thomson Animal Clinic Reviews
My dog is very nervous and no other vet was able to get blood for her heartworm test… one place wanted to sedate her. This vet got it! The tech let my husband cuddle her and she used what she called a baby needle and drew from her back leg while another assistant fed her treats. She got the blood! And we finally got to get her on prevention. Is it pricey? Sure.. but, what isn’t these days really..
Mar 23, 2025 · The LadyI took my dog to thompson animal clinic on Friday. I cannot give them a good Review. The new ownership is horrible, When it was under the last owners I've been going there. 20 years. Doctor Jill wouldn't even help me unless. I gave her 4 to $500 to test. If my dog has a urinary track infection. I told her I didn't have that money. She turned around walked away from me. I wouldn't recommend this clinic. I'm never going back. I've been going there for 20 some years. I will never go to this clinic ever again. When Doctor Munich had it under his name, it was great. He took the time to talk to you. Workout solutions to try to fit with in your budget.he put you on a payment plan ,if I didn't give this lady money, she wanted nothing to do with me. I would suggest taking my dog to an alley and having a stranger.Take care of my dog.Than I would doctor jill..very disappointed in this clinic. She didn't care about my dogs health, she only cared about the dollar ,shame on you Dr.Jill
Feb 17, 2025 · Genevieve ChristopherTook my 5 year old beagle here yesterday. He was sick for a couple days. The doctor, with no testing, said he had Leptospirosis and suggested putting our baby boy to sleep or treating him at home but that the survival rate was low. They wanted $800 for this treatment which would have done nothing. I turned around and took him to another animal hospital because I had a bad feeling and didn’t trust her. The next doctor said that our dog showed no signs of Leptospirosis and it had to be something else. After some REAL testing, it turned out that he had a bad gall bladder and needed surgery. I am more than upset that someone would even suggest euthanizing an otherwise healthy dog with zero effort or knowledge of what she was saying. I will be contacting my credit card company and will seek whatever means to make sure this doesn’t happen to anyone else.
Mar 22, 2025 · christopher georgeI would never ever recommend this facility to anyone. All they care about is the money not the animal. I had many bad experiences there. 1st was the removal of my Yorkies teeth. It was supposed to be 2 only. When done it was all except 2. Even after me calling twice telling the to call me before any decisions. No call just tool them all out. Then fought me on the bill. 2nd was every tinee I took my male dog in they wanted him heavily sedated. Even if I was willing to musle him. They were not nice to him and he remembered that. Last time was when my Yorky 17 yrars old needed to be put down. I called to see if they could. They said they would have to do a physical first then after that they would decide if she needed to be. She was 17 years old ,not eating, loom to of had a stroke and was done. All they wanted was office call. I am so disgusted with this place. Please don't take your fur baby there.
