Ark Veterinary Hospital provides a wide array of services that cater to the diverse needs of its patients. Their offerings go beyond basic care to include specialized services and advanced diagnostics. Here is a detailed look at some of the key services you can expect:
- Preventative Care and Wellness: The hospital focuses on proactive health management for pets of all ages. This includes care for puppy and kitten stages, as well as essential services like spay/neuter, flea and tick prevention, and microchip placement.
- Exotics Medicine: A major specialization of the hospital is exotics medicine. As highlighted in customer reviews, they are skilled in treating a variety of non-traditional pets, including tortoises, rats, and other small animals.
- Advanced Diagnostics: To ensure accurate and timely diagnoses, the hospital is equipped with advanced tools like digital radiography. This allows them to get a clear picture of your pet's internal health, which is crucial for effective treatment.
- Pain Management and Alternative Therapies: The hospital is dedicated to providing comfort for their patients. They offer comprehensive pain management and are open to exploring alternative therapies to improve your pet’s quality of life.
- Dental and Oral Health: The team is committed to maintaining your pet’s oral health. Services include teeth cleanings, polish teeth, and surgical extractions to treat dental disease.

Ark Veterinary Hospital is defined by several key features and a reputation built on specific client experiences:
- Specialized Exotics Care: This is arguably the most significant highlight. The hospital has a proven track record of successfully treating exotic pets, as evidenced by a reviewer who switched to Ark for their tortoises and found them to be "wonderful." Another reviewer praises Dr. Dixon for her expertise with rats, noting that she corrected a misdiagnosis from another vet.
- Compassionate and Knowledgeable Staff: Customer reviews consistently praise the staff for being "so incredibly nice" and for taking the time to "explain what is going on with your pets." The doctors are also noted for not being "afraid" of exotic pets, which is a major concern for owners of these animals.
- Reliable Communication (Mostly): One reviewer praises the hospital's consistent availability, stating, "every time I call, they are always there for us!" This is a strong positive point for a pet owner who values accessibility and timely help.
- Strict Appointment and Fee Policy: A significant point of contention, as highlighted in a negative review, is the hospital’s strict no-show fee policy. A client was charged over $200 for missing an appointment due to a work emergency and a snowstorm, even after trying to reschedule. This policy, while potentially a way to manage a busy schedule, can be seen as inflexible and a major drawback for some clients.
To schedule an appointment or to inquire about their services, you can reach Ark Veterinary Hospital at:
- Address: 45569 Van Dyke Ave, Utica, MI 48317, USA
- Phone: (586) 731-1430
For pet owners in Michigan, choosing a veterinary hospital is a decision that requires careful consideration of both the medical services offered and the client experience. Ark Veterinary Hospital presents a compelling case, especially for those with exotic pets. Their specialized knowledge in exotics medicine, as validated by glowing customer reviews, makes them a standout option in the region. The staff’s reputation for being compassionate, knowledgeable, and reliable on the phone is a major plus for many pet owners.
The hospital’s commitment to advanced diagnostics like digital radiography and a comprehensive range of services from pain management to dental care further solidifies its position as a top-tier veterinary care provider. For someone with a non-traditional pet who has had negative experiences with other vets, Ark Veterinary Hospital could be the perfect solution.
However, it is crucial for prospective clients to be aware of the hospital’s strict no-show fee policy, as highlighted in the negative review. This policy can be a significant point of concern, especially for those who may face unexpected emergencies or scheduling conflicts. While a strict policy can help manage a busy practice, it is something that could lead to a poor client experience. Ultimately, if you have an exotic pet or are looking for a vet who provides a wide range of specialized services and clear communication, Ark Veterinary Hospital is worth considering, but you should also be mindful of their scheduling policies.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I have been going to Ark veterinary hospital for many years now and have been very happy switching to them seeing my tortoises from a different veterinary hospital. The staff will take the time to explain what is going on with your pets and I do truly believe they care for your animal. They have been wonderful with my tortoises over the years and my cavalier King Charles. And the most important thing is…every time I call, they are always there for us! So thank you Ark Veterinary Staff!
April 17 · Shannon LeValleyI love Dr. Dixon! She has been treating my rats for a few years now. They always get you in as needed, staff is so incredibly nice and the doctors aren’t afraid of my pets! Had bad experiences in the past with vets not knowing how to handle them or making me do it for them. None of the doctors here are like that are truly care about your pets. I was taking one of my rats to another vet which was closer to my house but I wasn’t happy with the care so I took her here. She ended up being mis-diagnosed which Dr. Dixon caught. So they are incredibly nice but also have the best vets. Don’t ever close!!! ❤️***UPDATE 2025***I loved this office until this year. I had an appointment here and had to try and re-schedule due to a work emergency. Since I didn’t give 24hrs notice, my “account” was charged over $200 for no show fees. I get the time was booked but I can’t lose my job to avoid this from happening. I missed an appt previously because one of your staff said a post-op visit wasn’t needed but come if I feel I need to. It’s wrong you charge people that much when it couldn’t be avoided. Plus there was a huge snowstorm that day that I didn’t know about when it was scheduled a month prior. There are only a few exotic vets in the area and it’s sad you do this to your clients. I’m going elsewhere from now on.
June 17 · Heather CYesterday, my cockatiel woke up with crust on both of his cheeks and crest. His right eye was also swollen with redness along the lid. He seemed pretty weak overall. I started calling different vets to see who was avian certified and was told to call Ark Veterinary Hospital— I’m so glad I did. Karen, the receptionist, was incredibly kind. I’m thankful they had a same-day appointment available because I’ve never experienced something like this before. My cockatiel, Max, had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Frocillo. Both her and her assistant were AMAZING. By the time we got there, Max perked up and his eye swelling was gone. I was worried how Max would do because he’s our rescue bird— he was isolated for 5 years by his previous owners and he has a tendency to be sassy with people he doesn’t know. He hopped on Dr. Frocillo’s shoulder and her assistant like it was a coffee shop catch-up— if that doesn’t tell you everything you need to know about their character there then I’m not sure what will. Dr. Frocillo was the absolute best. After this experience, I refuse to go anywhere else. Thank you for taking care of our sweet Max!The second photo is when we go to the car. He was super excited after meeting new friends 😂
April 05 · Megan TomlianOur almost 2 year old dog Spencer has been going here since he was about 9 weeks old. Due to me being a paranoid pet parent and him having a very sensitive tummy/skin, we have probably taken him here over 10 times his whole life between exams/shots/concerns. They can almost always get us in within a week if we need it but let me book out appointments pretty far in advanced as well. They have always been so kind, polite and thorough. They will always answer all of my overly worried questions and will take any information I can give them when diagnosing him They never leave a stone left unturned. They always go over with us all of the options we have, what the prices are and what they think is necessary and unnecessary (at this time). I have continued to take Spencer there because they truly care about the animals they work on.I have also taken both my leopard gecko and ball python there a few times when they were not eating or had a goopy eye. They squeezed them in same day or next day and will usually just recommend some meds after an exam and say if they're still having problems then we'll do X,Y and Z.Compared to other vet in the area they are a little more expensive but I feel it's completely worth it and will pay it every time. Shame on some of these reviews! It is okay for a vet to be out of your price range but it is not okay for reviewers to say Ark is "money hungry" for charging for their services (which they thoroughly go over at every visit).
January 13 · Jacki P.I highly recommend this vet to anyone with ferrets! Everyone who works here was SO nice and made me feel so comfortable leaving my baby with them to be cared for. Knowing that they see ferrets regularly makes me SO happy!
