Banfield Pet Hospital Introduce
For pet owners across Kentucky, especially those in the bustling city of Lexington, choosing the right veterinary care is a critical decision. Our pets are cherished members of our families, and their health and well-being are paramount. While many options exist, understanding what a specific clinic offers and what local users experience can help inform your choice. This article will provide an overview of Banfield Pet Hospital in Lexington, KY, discussing its services, location, and drawing insights from client feedback to help you make an informed decision about your pet's healthcare needs.
Banfield Pet Hospital is a well-known name in veterinary care, with numerous locations across the United States, including several in Kentucky. They are often recognized for their focus on preventive care and their Optimum Wellness Plans®, which aim to make regular veterinary visits more accessible and affordable for pet owners. These plans typically cover annual examinations, vaccinations, and other routine services, promoting a proactive approach to pet health rather than solely reacting to illness.
However, like any large service provider, individual experiences at Banfield Pet Hospital locations can vary. Customer feedback provides valuable insight into the day-to-day operations and quality of service. For the Banfield Pet Hospital located at 1945 Pavilion Way in Lexington, some reviews highlight areas where communication and patient management could be improved. One detailed account mentions issues with post-operative care, specifically concerning a dog's breathing after intubation and repeated problems with a surgical bandage. The review points to a perceived lack of clear communication and a reluctance to directly address concerns without suggesting an emergency room visit for non-emergencies. This specific experience suggests that while the clinic provides essential services, direct access to a veterinarian for immediate concerns may sometimes be challenging, and the consistency of care, particularly regarding follow-up procedures like bandaging, might vary.
Conversely, the same review highlights a positive experience at a different Banfield location (Lansdowne/Tates Creek), praising their helpfulness, kindness, and education. This indicates that the quality of service can differ between individual Banfield branches, making it important for local pet owners to consider specific location reviews. The positive mention of a staff member named Jose at the Pavilion Way location suggests that individual staff members can significantly enhance the client experience, even when overall service aspects might fall short for some.

While the concept of standardized care is appealing, the real-world application can sometimes present challenges in communication and responsiveness, as highlighted by issues with post-surgical follow-up and perceived reluctance to allow direct vet consultation for active concerns. Banfield Pet Hospital Reviews
My dog axel had surgery to remove a growth from his ear 3 days ago so it could be sent off to pathology. His ear & majority of his head was wrapped with gauze & coban and we were told to come back in 2 days to take the wrap off. So, we went in yesterday and after removing the wrap, they said his ear was still bleeding decided to put another one on. Then they charged us $57. We checked out but Axel was breathing really weird & having retractions so we asked if the vet could check him to make sure he was breathing okay since that symptom is on the post op worksheet listed as "watch for." At first the girl at the desk (receptionist, maybe technician?) just kept talking in circles when we asked to see the vet again, giving reasons why he could be breathing like that but what she was saying didn't make sense. Then, she said we should just video the breathing at home and call later if something was wrong. I said I didn't need to video it because it was actively happening and we again asked to speak to the vet. The receptionist (?) said he was probably breathing like that because he was "trached." For starters, he was not trached. He was intubated. These are vastly different things. So, I again asked to see the vet. Finally, we get in a room and the vet comes and she started with "his lungs sound fine, the grunting is probably from some soft palette inflammation from being intubated." But then she continued to say we could go to the ER to get him a chest x ray if we are worried. But a chest xray would not determine if his throat is swollen. So I asked if they could just check his airway/look at his throat & she said they can only do that if he is under anesthesia. I said being sedated & intubated is what started this issue so we don't want him to have to be intubated again. We left but we were unimpressed with the service. Well, this morning I called because Axel's head wrap had come off last night. I am not sure who wrapped his bandage yesterday but Axel has gotten it off 4x since the appointment even though he is wearing his cone. We have tried our best to get the bandage back over his ear so he is not bleeding everywhere but I know it needs to be rewrapped. I called & told Banfield what happened and that I don't know who wrapped his head but it won't stay in place and asked if I can bring him in to have it rewrapped because the first time he was wrapped, it stayed on really well. This girl, the same girl as yesterday, told me to take him to the ER for a bandage change. I said "so after paying you all to do the procedure, paying you all to wrap his head yesterday, now i am supposed to pay an emergency vet bill for something that is absolutely not an emergency?" She said well they may want to sedate him to change the bandage. I said well he was having breathing issues from being intubated so we would opt out of sedating him again. I asked to speak to the vet and she said "she's busy, shes going to recommend the ER." She did not let me speak to the vet. So over the last 2 days, we have been told to go to the ER for 2 completely different things, neither of which were an emergency, and we did not want to pay the outrageous ER bill when Banfield was already paid to be managing his care. The only saving grace at this place is their tech/receptionist named Jose. He is always friendly & helpful.Nonetheless, THANKFULLY, the staff at the Lansdowne location (Tates Creek) were much more helpful & kind. They have accommodated us & are taking over the post op care of Axel and they apologized on behalf of the Hamburg location. The receptionist allowed me to speak with a nurse immediately and the nurse was so helpful! If you choose Banfield, go to the Lansdowne location! They are friendly, helpful, & very educated.photos added of my pup at Banfield & at home in his cone
Jan 12, 2025 · Eva DavisJust had the worst experience in my life!! Office staff rude not helpful especially the office manager who told me to “check myself “ when I questioned why our dog was getting the treatment or lack of treatment. All they wanted to do is sedate him because he’s out of control. He’s had numerous visits before but now he’s aggressive & has always been (lie) please don’t take the pet you love to this place!!! Just a thought, if he has always been aggressive why would you schedule him again for a visit that couldn’t be done. Again very disappointed & very concerned with how he was treated when we couldn’t see what was going on behind doors!!!!
