Banfield Pet Hospital Introduce
For pet owners throughout Ohio, particularly those in the Columbus area, selecting a veterinary clinic that aligns with their needs for comprehensive and accessible animal care is a key decision. Banfield Pet Hospital, located at Westpointe Plaza in Columbus, is one of several Banfield clinics serving the region, offering a range of standardized veterinary services. This article is designed to provide you, as a local Ohio pet parent, with an overview of what Banfield Pet Hospital offers, based on publicly available information and local client experiences.
Banfield Pet Hospital operates with a structured approach to veterinary care, often emphasizing preventive medicine through their Optimum Wellness Plans (OWP). These plans are designed to make routine care more accessible and affordable for pet owners by covering a variety of services for a monthly fee. The clinic aims to provide a consistent level of care across its locations, making it a familiar option for many pet owners who value predictability in their veterinary services. They cater to a wide range of pet health needs, from routine check-ups and vaccinations to more involved diagnostic and surgical procedures, all with the goal of supporting your pet's overall health and well-being.
Their focus typically includes wellness exams, vaccinations, parasite control, and basic dental care, often bundled within their wellness plans. This model appeals to many pet owners who prefer a proactive approach to their pet's health, aiming to prevent issues before they become serious. While the standardized nature of Banfield clinics can offer a consistent experience, the individual client experience can vary, as is common with any service provider. It’s always beneficial for pet owners to understand the scope of services, particularly concerning urgent or complex cases, and how communication is managed within the clinic.
Client feedback for Banfield Pet Hospital in Columbus, OH, offers a mixed perspective, highlighting both areas of strength and significant concerns. On the positive side, one client appreciates that the clinic is "a good place to go for dogs especially" and notes the convenience of its connection to a PetSmart, where "you can get on a monthly fee wellness plan that covers quite a bit." This individual reports never having "any issues with the staff or confusion," suggesting a smooth experience for routine care.
However, a detailed review concerning a cat's dental exam at this location raises serious concerns about communication and care. The client experienced a lack of communication regarding pick-up readiness, with staff reportedly claiming to have called multiple times when call records showed otherwise. Furthermore, a request for microchipping was overlooked despite being mentioned at intake. The most critical issue detailed is a significant injury to the cat's leg during the visit, with descriptions of the cat behaving "poorly," "hissing and biting," and ripping out a catheter, leading to forceful restraint. The client describes the vet as "stuttering, nervous, not looking me in the eye" when explaining the incident, and reports the cat's leg and foot being severely swollen for over 24 hours post-visit, causing ongoing pain. This experience led to a strong recommendation against bringing animals to this location due to perceived "horrendous, negligent team" behavior. This contrasting feedback underscores the importance of thorough personal research and direct communication when considering veterinary care.
Banfield Pet Hospital is conveniently situated at 5336 Westpointe Plaza Drive, Columbus, OH 43228, USA. This location places it within a prominent commercial plaza in Columbus, Ohio, making it easily accessible for pet owners residing in the western and central parts of the city, as well as surrounding suburban areas. The clinic's presence within a plaza often means ample parking is available, contributing to a convenient visit for clients bringing their pets.
Being part of a larger retail complex, often alongside a PetSmart, can offer added convenience for pet owners who might combine veterinary visits with pet supply shopping. Its location within Columbus, a major Ohio city, ensures good connectivity via local road networks, making it relatively easy to reach from various neighborhoods. For pet owners in Ohio looking for a Banfield clinic, this specific location offers a local option within a well-trafficked area, providing accessibility for routine appointments. While highly accessible, it's always advisable for new clients to confirm parking and entrance details, especially when navigating larger retail environments.

Banfield Pet Hospital in Columbus, OH, based on customer feedback and its operational model, presents several features and highlights for local pet owners:
- Optimum Wellness Plans (OWP): A significant highlight is the availability of monthly wellness plans, which help budget for and encourage regular preventive care, covering a "quite a bit" of services and offering "affordability" for many common needs.
- Convenient Location within PetSmart: Being connected to a PetSmart allows for a "one-stop shop" experience, combining veterinary visits with pet supply shopping.
- Consistency Across Locations: For those familiar with the Banfield model, the standardized procedures and offerings can provide a consistent experience across different branches.
- Suitable for Routine Dog Care: One positive review specifically noted it as a "Good place to go for dogs especially," suggesting a positive experience for canine patients.
However, it is important to acknowledge significant concerns raised in one detailed review:
- Communication Issues: A notable concern was the alleged lack of pick-up calls/voicemails and miscommunication regarding services requested (e.g., microchipping).
- Handling of Anxious/Difficult Pets: A severe incident involving a cat described as "stressed," "hissing and biting," ripping out a catheter, and sustaining a "horrendous" leg injury during a dental exam raises serious questions about handling protocols for challenging patients.
- Lack of Transparency/Accountability: The client's perception of the vet being "stuttering, nervous, not looking me in the eye" and the absence of unsolicited compensation for the injury contributed to a feeling of negligence.
Potential clients should weigh these aspects carefully.

For pet owners in Columbus, Ohio, Banfield Pet Hospital at Westpointe Plaza offers a specific model of veterinary care that may suit certain needs, particularly for those who appreciate the structure and predictability of their Optimum Wellness Plans. The convenience of its location within a plaza, often connected to a PetSmart, is a practical advantage for routine visits and combined errands. For clients whose experiences align with the positive feedback, the clinic can provide a consistent and straightforward experience for their dogs, with benefits like manageable monthly fees for preventative care.
However, it is crucial for local pet owners to consider the full spectrum of client experiences. While some find no issues, the detailed negative review concerning communication failures, severe mishandling of an anxious cat resulting in significant injury, and perceived lack of accountability presents a serious concern. This indicates that while the clinic may be suitable for very routine, low-stress visits, pet owners with anxious pets or those anticipating complex procedures might need to have in-depth discussions about handling protocols, emergency readiness, and communication policies beforehand.
Ultimately, Banfield Pet Hospital in Columbus is a convenient option for Ohio residents seeking a standardized approach to basic, routine veterinary care, especially if budgeting through wellness plans is a priority. However, for those with pets that are easily stressed or who prioritize highly personalized care and robust communication, particularly during challenging situations, a thorough direct inquiry into their specific handling procedures and past experiences with similar cases would be strongly advised before committing to this location. The disparity in client experiences suggests that while it works well for some, it may not be the ideal fit for all pet owners in the Columbus area.

Good place to go for dogs especially. The one in Hilliard is also connected to a pets mart where you can get on a monthly fee wellness plan that covers quite a bit. Never had any issues with the staff or confusion.
Mar 15, 2025 · Colin McCrearyWe took my cat, Mango, into this location for a routine dental exam yesterday. His second visit here as we recently changed from his other vet and he’s now on the OWP with Banfield. I get no call saying he’s ready for pick up, neither does my husband. After they close at 6, I get a lady calling and asking why I never showed and I tell her I had assumed they had emergencies and Mango was delayed or would need rescheduled and I was waiting for their call. The lady was adamant they had called me multiple times and left me voicemails which my call record can confirm. They hadn’t called my husband either. By the time we get in, I asked if they’d found time to get Mango microchipped and they said they hadn’t known it was needed. I told the vet at intake that morning it was. We waited another handful of minutes after they’d closed just to have them come out and say he was too stressed for the chip. Which, if done during regular hours and as I’d asked wouldn’t have been a problem. The REAL issue is the injury they did to my animal. I’m told he behaved poorly, was hissing and biting (never a problem at his other vet) and ripped out his catheter. They had to hold him down and forcibly wrap his leg to prevent bleeding. They never mentioned how long he was left there, unmonitored or anything but since we didn’t get a call he was ready until AFTER they’d closed I assumed he was bandaged too tightly for many hours. The vet who eventually came to talk to us was stuttering, nervous, not looking me in the eye that much and relaying this story to me. She warned me how swollen his leg would be but nothing could’ve prepared me to get home and see it out of the carrier. I wasn’t offered any compensation for his suffering or damage. I had to ASK for them to waive the cost of the gabapentin (about $15) they say he’ll need for follow-up visits but unless otherwise necessary I would rather die than put my pets’ lives in the hands of this horrendous, negligent team. His leg and foot are almost entirely twice the size of his other feet and the swelling hasn’t gone down in the 24+ hours since we brought him home. He hates that foot and leg being touched. These people treated my cat horrendously and I would not bring my animals to this location if I were you!!!!
Mar 16, 2025 · Kaitlyn MooreThis location will randomly close on a Saturday or close up early on a weeknight without letting their patients know. Have called multiple times to schedule an appointment or drive to go get a refill on a prescription & they are closed!!!! Called today & the voicemail said “due to unforeseen circumstances we will be closed today” like again? Really?I understand things happen but this is becoming a consistent thing & it isn’t okay. Today is Saturday so what a wild day to be closed. There is no consistency at this office, this is clearly a *higher* up problem and should be handled. Change your hours permanently if this is going to continue to be an issue.
Jun 29, 2025 · Emily WilkeMy partner’s card on file expired and instead of communicating with us in any way that there was an outstanding balance besides calling from a spam number, Banfield sent the full balance of months to a creditor who formally put it on my credit report with less than a year of trying to collect (we had no idea).Keep in mind, we did not use the services at all during this time. No voicemails, no emails or texts about this balance even though we were opted into both. No transparency at all. This is second worse to when the vets wheeled out a euthanized dog in front of the whole waiting room. This place is predatory, beware.
Mar 11, 2025 · Rachael HoltI originally had an appointment for Thursday for my new kitten. I get a call on Wednesday asking to cancel and reschedule because “that appointment doesn’t work well with their schedule” okay I rescheduled to Sunday after the receptionist told me they were free all day. Sunday rolls around and I get a call an hour before our appointment saying the vet is out with a migraine. It is extremely frustrating when all I’m trying to do is set up an appointment and every single time I get rescheduled. Then she said “does he need to be seen right now??” I honestly don’t understand why she would ask seeing as they can’t help anyways. I would NOT recommend this location to anyone who values their time.
