Choosing the right veterinarian for a non-traditional pet is arguably more critical than for a traditional one, as an exotic pet’s physiology often requires immediate, species-specific expertise. For Missouri residents, Bird Medicine & Surgery is worth choosing for three key reasons: **Unrivaled Specialization**, **Advanced Capabilities**, and **Deep Compassion**.
Firstly, the **Unrivaled Specialization** in Avian, Exotic, and Pocket Pet Medicine is a rare commodity in the Midwest. They offer expertise that most general practitioners simply do not possess, covering everything from specific contagious diseases in birds to the unique surgical requirements of reptiles. This specialization translates directly into better diagnoses and more effective treatments for your pet, often saving valuable time that could be wasted at a less specialized clinic.
Secondly, their **Advanced Capabilities**—including the use of diagnostic tools like **Rigid Endoscopy**—ensure that even complex health issues are addressed with cutting-edge technology. This ability to perform both routine and advanced surgery, combined with comprehensive diagnostic imaging, means your pet can receive an entire spectrum of necessary medical care without the need for multiple referrals to different specialist centers, a major convenience for Missouri pet owners.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the **Deep Compassion** demonstrated by the entire team, from the doctors like Dr. Kersting to the vet technicians, creates a trustworthy and supportive environment. This is more than just a medical facility; it is a place where clients feel genuinely cared for and supported, especially during challenging times. The consistent positive feedback regarding their empathy and willingness to go the extra mile underscores that they truly practice personalized care, fostering the deep human-animal bond. For residents across Missouri looking for a vet that not only has the expertise but also the heart to care for their unique companions, Bird Medicine & Surgery in Chesterfield is the definitive choice.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- I was only able to come on time before my Tater Tot passed away but they were nothing short of excellent. The vet tech, Courtney, honestly has to be the sweetest human being that I've ever met. She went above and beyond to make sure that I had as much time with my little Tot after they passed. She did not hesitate to bring them back in the room after I had asked for them to be taken away and she was so comforting. She went above and beyond with TaterTot's foot print and was careful to choose some of the prettiest feathers for it. Thank you for going above and beyond to comfort me and make this sad experience bearable, I cannot thank you enough. 💕After they passed, Dr. Kersting made a point to call me and pass on kind words. If you have a bird, I would highly recommend them. If I ever have another bird, even though I live 30+minutes away I will 100% be coming here. October 18 · Catelin Robinson
- All of the doctors and other employees are ALWAYS so friendly and helpful. I live almost two hours away and will always make the drive here. If youre looking for a vet that actually cares about you and your pet, bird medicine and surgery is the place to be. May 12 · Hallie Tyarks
- They take incredible care of our birds and are very kind. :) April 04 · Gina Listello
- Dr. K and his staff are always so nice and helpful! They always manage to get us an appointment quickly, especially during emergencies. Their prices are also extremely reasonable for an exotic pet vet. Very fortunate to have access to such an amazing clinic! July 19 · Mocha Moi
- I have been a client of Dr. Kersting and his staff for about 15 years now, since I first started to rescue parakeets and parrots. Sadly, my 6 or 7 yo keet Frisky passed this week, but not for lack of trying to save him. When I noticed he was on the bottom of his cage struggling to breathe, I put him in a carrier, jumped in my car with him and called BM & S to notify them I was on my way and to please be ready with oxygen. He was still breathing when I pulled into the parking lot, but stopped as I got out of the car. When I ran in with him, they were already ready with an oxygen tent for him, but it was too late, but not for lack of trying on their part. Not one, not two, but 3 good folks tried to save him! Dr. Canada gave Frisky a shot to start his heart, Dr. Kersting performed CPR (pumped his heart), and Vet Tech Ryan administered oxygen. They worked on my little Frisky for 10 to 15 minutes trying to bring him back. Despite their best combined efforts, Frisky joined his cagemate and buddy Doodles whom I lost in February, and now they are flying in Heaven with the other birds I have lost over the years. I am so blessed to have these folks as my vets-THEY REALLY CARE and they have ALWAYS done ANYTHING and EVERYTHING they could for the wellbeing of my babies. You will not find a better team of caring individuals for your beloved pets than here! EVERYONE here is OUTSTANDING. If you really love your pet and want THE BEST CARE, it's BIRD MEDICINE AND SURGERY. By the way, they handle ALL PETS, not just birds. Excellent people=excellent care! November 24 · Pam A.
