Pets At Rest Hospice Introduce
For pet owners in the greater St. Louis area, making the decision about a beloved companion’s final days is one of the most heart-wrenching choices one will ever face. Pets At Rest Hospice, a dedicated **Veterinarian** service, understands this deeply personal and painful journey. They specialize exclusively in **Pet Hospice** and **Pet Euthanasia** services, offering families a path to a gentle and dignified farewell, focused entirely on the pet’s comfort and the family’s peace of mind.
The practice is built on a philosophy of **Compassionate Care**, aiming to make a profoundly difficult day as peaceful as possible. Led by Dr. Dawnetta, a trusted and nationally recognized expert in pet end-of-life care, this locally owned and community-rooted practice distinguishes itself by taking the time to know each family's story, ensuring that clients are **never rushed or pressured**. This commitment to personal attention is a defining characteristic, setting the practice apart from larger, corporate entities. Whether a pet is facing a terminal diagnosis like bone cancer, as was the case for Duke, or simply reaching the end of a long, full life like a beloved 19-year-old companion, Pets At Rest provides the professional guidance and emotional support needed at every turn.
The services offered cover the full spectrum of end-of-life care, starting with proactive support. Through **Quality of Life Evaluations** and **Pet Hospice** plans, the team helps families assess their pet's comfort level and create a care plan that prioritizes happiness and pain management over aggressive cures. When the time comes for saying goodbye, the option for **Home Euthanasia** or a peaceful transition at their unique **Comfort Center Pet Euthanasia** facility allows families to choose the setting that best honors their pet's needs and personality. The focus is always on ensuring the pet is relaxed, comfortable, and surrounded by their human and fur family until their peaceful passing, just as the customer review describes the presence of a beautiful, peaceful rainbow after the final dose.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- Our sweet 5 year old boy Duke was diagnosed with bone cancer. We had to make the decision that we had hoped we would never ever have to make. Our whole world stopped. When the time came, Dr. Dawnetta came to our home, showing both Duke and our family so compassion when we were feeling so much pain and grief. Duke’s passing was the saddest moment of our lives, but we were so fortunate to be able to let go, surrounded by Duke’s human and fur family. For that we are forever grateful. - It was such a hard decision— but my baby was 19 with some issues - I know I have been on borrowed time for the last few years and didn’t want to let go - but when the pain came - I just had to make the “ decision” - I was recommended by a lady ( Lori) on Nextdoor so wasn’t sure what to expect — but from the moment I spoke with Susie and the Dr I felt well at ease … our visit started off with treats and a romp around the room ( it was almost as if she was better ??- Doc said it was the adrenaline of being somewhere new) My girl finally settled into one of the nice cozy beds on the floor - so I pressed the button - The Dr was so sweet and compassionate talking with Tiff and I reassuring … more Treats and then a nice sedative … she just settled in all calm and peaceful - I was not rushed or pressured … they even made a paw print and a pretty little resin heart with her fur in it to cherish her memory ) when given the final dose my girl didn’t even feel it - she just laid there next to us ( both Dr and I on floor next to her talking about what as sweet girl she was ) … then I noticed a rainbow from the window on the floor - Dr said she is free … sure I cried but I can’t explain how peaceful I was … the Dr again reassured me that it was her time ( that there were other complications that I didn’t know about like a heart murmur- and her hair coming out as signs of final days ) She didn’t suffer at all - and honestly since she had to go - I can not even think of a better experience ( for both of us! ) Thank you so much for what you do … I can’t tell you how much I recommend if your pup needs to cross that rainbow bridge this is the place to guide them that way 🩷 July 25 · Terrie
- We knew it was time to say goodbye to our sweet 18-year-old Mocha and were hoping to do so at home in a peaceful, familiar environment. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find an in-home vet available that same day. I contacted Pets at Rest and spoke with Becky, who was incredibly compassionate and helpful. While a home visit wasn’t possible, they had an opening at their hospice home—and what a truly beautiful experience it turned out to be.Mocha was treated with such tenderness and respect. We had the entire home to ourselves, including a private, thoughtfully prepared room stocked with everything we—and Mocha—could need. Every detail was so carefully considered. It was the next best thing to saying goodbye at home.Dr. Dawnetta was compassionate and took the time to listen to our stories about Mocha, honoring her life and our grief. We’re so grateful for the care and comfort they provided during such a difficult moment. June 28 · Sam&Sarah
- It was 1 year ago this evening that we said goodbye to our sweet boy, Duke. The decision to let him go was so difficult, but we knew it was the right thing to do. We also knew that he deserved to be in a warm, caring environment when he crossed the rainbow bridge, so I am forever grateful that our vet recommended Pets at Rest. Dr. Dawnetta was so comforting throughout our last moments with Duke. She was so kind and immensely compassionate. She explained everything and let us take as much time as we needed to say goodbye, never once feeling rushed. The room was very home-like with soft music and a water feature; very peaceful. Dr. Dawnetta was able to do paw prints and paw print molds as well as hair clippings in resin for us to remember him. As we left, she gave both me and my daughter a big hug and we truly appreciated that. We opted for a private cremation and she was able to have Duke's remains transported to our personal vet's office for us. It takes a special person to care for people and their beloved pets during their toughest, most sad time, and that is who Dr. Dawnetta is, a truly special person. We are forever grateful for her care and compassion. July 04 · Adrienne Schultz
- Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is one of the hardest things we’ve ever had to do, but they made this incredibly difficult moment as gentle and peaceful as possible. From the moment we called, their team showed such kindness and understanding.Dr. Woodruff came to our home and treated our sweet dog with the utmost compassion and dignity. She took her time, explained everything clearly, and allowed us to say goodbye in the comfort and quiet of our own home. Her presence was calming, and it was clear she truly cared—not just about our pet, but about our family too.We are so grateful for this service and the way it honored our dogs life. Thank you for giving us the gift of a peaceful goodbye. May 30 · Pooja Vyas
