My family did not have a good experience with Brenda King to say the least. I was aware that she is not the most friendly woman, but thought we were in good hands with her for our puppy. We have family members who have brought their pets to her for many years. It was all going fine until our puppy (10 months old) had a tear duct issue. He was hit by a car at 8 months old and recovered very well. The only thing was that he had mucous in his eye and nose on the side where he was hit. So, Dr. King suggested we do a minor procedure to put a thin tube in the corner of his eye to flush it out. It wasn’t supposed to be risky. I brought him in the morning for the procedure and dropped him off. Later in the afternoon, Dr. King called and said she had bad news. Our puppy stopped breathing during the procedure. That was it. He died right then and there. We are still in shock and heartbroken. She took care of his cremation and everything, but we just feel like the office is holding back information or something. I have asked many questions, but it’s all been pretty vague. Dr. King is an intimidating person so she’s not very approachable or helpful in giving us a sense of peace with this situation. If you want a vet who you can trust and feel comfortable with, I would not choose Brenda King. - amanda FIloso

Veterinary care is a cornerstone of responsible pet ownership, encompassing everything from routine preventative measures to complex medical and surgical interventions. A full-service veterinary practice typically offers a wide array of diagnostic tools, treatment options, and preventative programs designed to maintain a pet's health throughout its life. This includes annual wellness exams, vaccinations, parasite control, dental care, nutritional counseling, and behavioral advice. Beyond preventative care, a veterinary clinic also provides services for when pets fall ill or are injured, offering diagnostics like blood tests and imaging, as well as medical management and surgical procedures. For pet owners in New Jersey, selecting a veterinarian often involves considering factors such as the range of services, the veterinarian's experience and approach, the clinic's atmosphere, and the overall communication and comfort level experienced by both the pet and the owner. Brenda J. King, V.M.D. has been a part of the Montclair veterinary landscape for decades, contributing to the local options available for pet health needs.

The reviews for Brenda J. King, V.M.D. highlight a mixed experience for clients, offering several important features and considerations for New Jersey pet owners:

  • Long-Standing Reputation (Mixed): One review notes that family members have brought their pets to Dr. King "for many years," indicating a practice with a long history and established client base in the Montclair community. This can suggest a level of trust built over time. However, the subsequent negative experience from the same family introduces a significant counterpoint to this long-term relationship.

  • Caring and Down-to-Earth Approach (Positive Review): One positive review praises Dr. King as a "true and genuine dog lover," described as "Caring but down to earth and not aggressive in treatment." This suggests a veterinarian who adopts a practical and compassionate approach to care, which can be appealing to pet owners who prefer a less aggressive diagnostic or treatment plan for their animals. The ease of getting appointments is also highlighted as a positive.

  • Kind and Lovely Staff (Positive Review): The staff is explicitly mentioned as "Kind and lovely," contributing to a positive overall experience for some clients. This indicates a supportive and pleasant environment at the front office and with veterinary assistants.

  • Communication and Compassion Concerns (Negative Review): A very serious highlight from a negative review points to a profound lack of clear communication and perceived lack of compassion following a tragic incident. The description of Dr. King as "intimidating," "not very approachable or helpful in giving us a sense of peace," and providing "vague" information is a significant concern for those seeking empathetic support during difficult times. This highlights a potential challenge in client-doctor rapport for some individuals.

  • Varying Client Comfort Levels: The stark contrast between "super super pleased" and "Worst experience ever" indicates that the clinic's approach, particularly Dr. King's personal demeanor, strongly resonates with some clients while being deeply problematic for others. Pet owners seeking a vet with whom they feel entirely "comfortable" and "can trust" might find this inconsistency challenging.

King, V.M.D. in Montclair, the practice offers a well-established presence and a comprehensive array of veterinary services for dogs and cats, including modern diagnostic and treatment options. The long history of serving the Montclair community suggests a proven track record for many families. Some clients praise Dr. King as a "true and genuine dog lover" with a "caring but down to earth" approach, alongside "kind and lovely staff," which appeals to those seeking efficient and no-nonsense care. However, the available public data also reveals a deeply distressing experience for one family, highlighting concerns about communication, emotional support, and perceived lack of transparency following a tragic event.
