---What makes Chicago Exotics Animal Hospital worth choosing for your pet’s health needs? The most significant factor is their specialization. In a region with a large number of general veterinarians, finding a clinic with dedicated expertise in exotic animals can be a challenge. Chicago Exotics fills this niche, providing a level of care that is simply not available at a general practice. For a pet owner with a bird, reptile, or small mammal, this specialization is critical. The positive reviews, despite some negative feedback on administrative staff, often highlight the high quality of the medical care itself. One client had a great experience with a veterinarian who was "very nice and took a more conservative approach," and who made them feel "a lot more comfortable." This shows that the veterinary care itself is of a high standard and that the clinic employs caring and knowledgeable professionals. The fact that the clinic can handle a wide variety of services—from emergency care to long-term chronic illness management—provides a sense of security for pet owners.
Furthermore, the availability of advanced diagnostics and alternative therapies is a huge benefit. Owners of exotic animals often face complex health issues that require cutting-edge technology and a nuanced understanding of their species. The clinic’s ability to provide services like CT scans and acupuncture means that they are at the forefront of exotic animal medicine. While some reviews mention mixed experiences, the overall message is that the veterinarians are highly skilled and genuinely care for their patients. The clinic’s willingness to provide care for urgent situations and its established presence in the community make it a reliable and essential resource. For anyone in the Illinois region with an exotic pet, the specialized expertise and comprehensive care offered by Chicago Exotics Animal Hospital make it a premier choice for ensuring the health and well-being of their unique animal companion.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I've taken both my Betta fish and hamster there, and It's been a mixed experience. For context, I've had other pets, so it's not my first time at the vet or with a sick pet. Tried to be as thorough as possible so you can make an informed decision and be prepared for your visit.Starting with the receptionists. Idk who handles the intake, but every time I've called, I get someone who is very blunt, borderline rude, and not empathetic. Horrible first impression, and to be honest, if there were more exoric animal clinics available, I would have gone elsewhere just based on that alone. When you're at the actual clinic, they're nicer, so again, it's just a bad first impression on the phone. When I took my Betta fish, I didn't really like the doctor I got (Dr. Moy). I felt she was dismissive of my concerns and pushed a painful and (in my opinion, not absolutely unnecessary) procedure on him, and he never trusted me again after that. I wish I had been more firm, but it was my first fish.General word of advice: always be ready to advocate for your pets, and don't get pressured into something you're not 100% comfortable with. Take your time asking questions and make sure you fully understand why things are being suggested and how they impact your pet. It's okay to take a moment to think about it, and it's okay to say no, ask for a second opinion, or say, "Not right now."With my hamster, we had a very different and positive experience. I was nervous to go back, but we got a different vet (I think her name starts with a B, can't remember her full name). She was very nice and took a more conservative approach. She answered all my questions, and I didn't feel rushed or dismissed. Overall, I felt a lot more comfortable with her, and she and the staff were super sweet and very gentle with my hammy.I think they assign you vets based on the species, but I would ask. As of the last time we were there this year, the cost of a regular visit was $89, and an emergency one is $209. This is just to be seen and doesn't include additional care (like x-rays) or medication.
March 19 · Maria Lopez FernandezThe doctors here are very good. The office manager, Lamor, makes it not worth it to go here to have to deal with her. She has awful skills in dealing with customers! There are other Exotic Vets to go to where you do not have to do with this kind of customer service. It's a real shame as the doctors deserve better than this but she refused to even give me a name of an owner to talk to. Awful!
August 15 · Kristan SchmidtMy bearded dragon, Toothpick, suddenly became very ill, and after calling many places with no luck, Chicago Exotics Animal Hospital fit him in for an emergency visit even though they were already at capacity. Everyone there from the receptionists to the doctors were so kind and compassionate but also were very clear and transparent about everything, and made me feel like I was leaving my long time friend in the right hands. They even sent a picture while he was being hospitalized. While I am heartbroken that he didn't make it, I know they did everything they could for him. I will forever be grateful for all they did for us
July 11 · Ray MartelloI’ve been bringing my lops to Chicago Exotics for a few years now, and I’m really lucky to have a place that I trust so much. I’ve been there for a spay procedure, stasis visits, and annual exams. The staff has always been very helpful in answering my questions & transparent when it comes to treatment/cost. Plus, scheduling an appointment has always been easy. I highly recommend this place for rabbit owners
October 17 · LexieI was referred to Chicago Exotics by my regular exotic doctor for a second opinion about my sick bearded dragon. After a 90-minute drive, everyone on staff was polite, professional, and courteous. The diagnosis was unfortunate, but I GREATLY appreciate Dr Giese's direct and compassionate approach to breaking the news.I'll be back to my regular vet for my next exotic pet, but Chicago Exotics will also be another option for me. I strongly recommend them.
