Country View Vet Service Introduce
For residents in Payson, Barry, and the greater Adams and Pike County areas of Illinois, **Country View Vet Service** stands as a long-established pillar of veterinary care. Operating for over 35 years (formerly as Lohnes Vet Service), this practice offers a dual focus, providing comprehensive medical and surgical services for both **Small Animals** (dogs and cats) and essential **Large Animal Services** for the region's agricultural community. This versatility ensures that whether you have a beloved family pet or a working herd, you can find dedicated veterinary expertise locally.
The clinic's ownership has transitioned to **Dr. Brittany Meyer**, a 2014 graduate of the University of Illinois who grew up near Chicago but now embraces country life and works with both large and small animals. The practice also retains the expertise of **Dr. Daniel Lohnes**, a 1982 U of I graduate who founded the original service and remains deeply involved in the community and even missionary veterinary work abroad. The combination of established experience and new energy is central to the clinic's identity.
The stated philosophy of Country View Vet Service is centered on patient priority. The team emphasizes a caring approach, with reviews noting that the doctors are “very caring” and always put “the animals first” when determining their course of action. They offer everything from routine preventive care, such as **Puppy Exams** and **Annual Exams**, to complex surgical procedures like **Spay, Neuter** and extractions, alongside specialized diagnostics like **In House Blood Analysis** and **Advanced Diagnostics**. Their unique focus on the needs of the agricultural community with services like **Ambulatory Services** and specialized reproductive procedures truly sets them apart as a valuable resource in rural Illinois.
However, it is important for prospective clients to note that experiences can vary significantly. While some clients praise the staff for being compassionate and always available for their dogs, one detailed review reported a tragic and traumatizing experience involving a beloved senior dog following a procedure where an initial surgical plan was unexpectedly changed, and the pet passed away shortly after being discharged. This contrast underscores the importance of clear communication with the veterinarians, particularly regarding pre-operative care, anesthesia, and post-procedure monitoring and discharge instructions.

Ultimately, Country View Vet Service provides a necessary and specialized type of complete veterinary medicine for the unique needs of the western Illinois community.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- I feel compelled to share my awful experience at Country View Vet Clinic in Payson, IL to warn others after my very loved dog Valentine underwent a procedure there then tragically passed away less than an hour after we returned home.Valentine had some growths on her skin that were causing her some discomfort after grooming sessions so we took her in to Country View Vet Clinic in Payson. Dr. Lohnes examined her and identified the growths as some sort of benign cysts that could be removed. Upon closer evaluation he determined that a couple of them were just too large to try to do so during an office visit and they needed to be removed while Valentine was under anesthesia. It would be a 30 minute procedure and although Valentine was an overweight 10 year old shih tzu he assured us that she was fit for surgery so we scheduled the surgery for May 8th. I dropped Valentine off at the clinic on the afternoon of May 7 as they requested; assuming by doing so that Dr Lohnes would be performing the surgery early the next morning. However on the morning of the 8th, Dr. Brittany Meyers (NOT Dr. Lohnes) decided to conduct additional blood work and then shockingly chose to perform the procedure without anesthesia, opting for lidocaine instead. This unexpected decision was alarming, especially since anesthesia had initially been indicated as necessary. When I picked Valentine up, it was clear she was in distress but since they were dismissing her I assumed it was just stress from the situation. Upon arrival at home she was stumbling and panting but she settled down and I put her on the couch to rest and I assumed she was sleeping. Shortly after when I checked on her I realized she had passed away. I was hysterical and I called the clinic who told me to bring her back in. Upon arrival they charged me an ADDITIONAL $60 for her body disposal. I was so upset I just paid the $60 and left. It felt so wrong on so many levels considering the circumstances.I am still traumatized by this whole situation. The lack of compassion and attention to my dog's well-being at this clinic is beyond unacceptable. We are left questioning the level of care and attention provided at this clinic. It is wildly concerning to think that a veterinarian could overlook the distress of an animal before sending them home. I urge anyone considering Country View Vet Clinic in Payson, IL for their pets to THINK TWICE. Your furry family members deserve better care and respect than what I experienced here. PLEASE seek out a clinic that prioritizes the health and safety of their patients. June 05 · Valentine

- Our dog had a fish hook stuck in his mouth at 9:30 pm this past Saturday. They were the only people than answered, never got even a call back from anyone else.... Her fees were very reasonable and we will be switching over as the service was top notch. Thank you again for your service this past week! We really appreciate it! April 22 · Zach Weaver
