Dr. Peter W. Kennedy, DVM Introduce
For pet owners in Illinois, finding a veterinarian who is both knowledgeable and genuinely caring can be a challenge. In Cary, IL, a well-known name in the community is Dr. Peter W. Kennedy, DVM. With a practice located in the Cary Commons Shopping Center, Dr. Kennedy provides a focused approach to veterinary care that aims to serve the needs of a variety of household pets. This article will provide an overview of Dr. Kennedy’s services and practice, helping local residents understand what to expect when they choose him for their pet’s health needs.
Dr. Peter W. Kennedy is a dedicated veterinarian who offers a range of medical services for pets. His practice is known for treating not only cats and dogs but also small mammals, a specialty that can be difficult to find in many general veterinary clinics. This broad scope of care allows owners of more unique pets, such as parrots, to seek out professional medical attention in a local setting. The practice focuses on general medicine and medical treatments, providing a foundation for routine and non-routine care.
The experience of clients at Dr. Kennedy's clinic appears to be varied. One client praised Dr. Kennedy for his caring and intelligent approach, crediting him with providing an elderly parrot with extra time after diagnosing a seizure disorder and a heart condition. This review highlights a compassionate and honest approach to end-of-life care, a difficult and sensitive area of veterinary medicine. However, another review paints a very different picture, describing the experience as a "scam" and questioning the necessity of procedures and the overall cost. This review also points out a perceived lack of transparency regarding treatment options and costs, as well as a seemingly low patient volume. It's important for potential clients to consider both perspectives and understand that a pet owner's experience can be deeply personal and subjective. What one person views as careful and necessary, another may see as excessive.

What is worth choosing
For Illinois residents, choosing a veterinarian is a deeply personal decision that often comes down to a balance of trust, cost, and the specific needs of their pet. Dr. Peter W. Kennedy, DVM, offers a unique value proposition, particularly for owners of small mammals and other less common pets. The ability to find a local vet who can provide competent care for a wide range of animals, from cats and dogs to parrots, is a significant advantage. The review from the client with the elderly parrot, who felt that Dr. Kennedy provided compassionate and honest care that gave them more time with their pet, speaks to a deeply caring side of the practice. For owners facing a difficult diagnosis or the end-of-life journey with their pet, this kind of supportive care is invaluable.
However, it is crucial to acknowledge the contrasting perspective. The review that alleges opportunistic practices, high costs, and a lack of transparency raises serious concerns. It highlights the importance of clear communication about procedures and costs, and suggests that potential clients should feel comfortable asking questions and seeking a second opinion. A pet owner’s comfort level with a veterinarian is paramount, and if a client feels their concerns are being dismissed or that procedures are not fully explained, it can erode trust. The presence of these conflicting reviews underscores the subjective nature of customer experience and the importance of a personal consultation to determine if the practice is the right fit.
Ultimately, for those in Cary, IL, seeking a vet for a small mammal or bird, Dr. Kennedy’s practice is an option that fills a specialty niche. The positive reviews indicate a capacity for compassionate and skilled care, especially in sensitive situations. However, the negative reviews suggest a need for potential clients to be proactive in their communication, ask for detailed cost estimates, and trust their own instincts. While some may find Dr. Kennedy to be a caring and effective veterinarian, others may not have the same experience. For the Illinois pet owner who values a specific focus on small mammals and a local, accessible clinic, a personal visit and open conversation with the staff is the best way to determine if this practice is the right choice for their pet's unique needs.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Dr. Kennedy is very caring and intelligent. I brought my elderly parrot in because of a sudden onset of seizures. He also determined a heart issue was going on as well and she probably didn’t have much longer because of her age. We started a seizure medication and thankfully the seizures stopped. She passed away this morning from a heart attack but I’m glad for the extra time we got together and Dr Kennedy being honest with me about her age and condition.
April 12 · Veronika M.My experience with him is he is opportunist that preys on customers ignorance of medical technology and procedures. His setup looks fancy and is mostly useless unless he is running high volume of patients which he doesn't even do (appointment only) but very costly as you add all those useless extras for the patient but obscenely protective for him being exposed to anything remotely unhealthy including mild dryness or irritation of the skin. The treatment equipment included a lot high priced disposable equipment and inadequate for Full care of medical cases only standard treatments with no customized or personalised care which is necessary to make the treatments fully effective. His clinic is dead most of the time which a very unlikely for good veterinarian in an area full of animal owners capable of paying for reasonable care.He refused to validate medical knowledge via question or forecast medical procedures and typical costs. Which would get him caught easily.I would guess his typical scam is figure out how much he could play you for and put on the show, go through the paces and coming up with an excuse why.I would recommend a second opinion with this one always.Just my personal experience with his services and opinion of him. Take it as you will.

April 07 · Jason MistrettaThis vet can't administer a rabies vaccine worth a darn! Took my dog to McHenry Animal Control for their low cost, Rabies vaccine clinic on Thursday 11/8. Ended up having to spend $70.00 for visit & pain meds, on a Saturday 11/10 at my Vet, for extreme swelling of left hip, pain and non-use of leg. Very very disappointed with this doctor!!!

November 13 · Brenda CarasellaThe best vet you can find. I have 2 dogs who are patients of dr Kennedy. Both are alive thanks to him. Buddy the pug is 16 and went through some close calls, one especially serious a year ago. It was bad and all my friends told me to take him out of his misery. I checked online and not many younger dogs survived it. But dr Kennedy didn't give up and cured him. I met dr Kennedy when Buddy had back problems 10 years ago. In other place they were talking about surgeries , X-rays. Kennedy gave him muscle relaxant and something else. Buddy didn't have problems with his back since.Ajax , our german shepherd is 8. He collapsed once and couldn't walk in the middle of a night . We took him to emergency hospital. They said he had a cancer and neededto see oncologist but first needed X-rays and ultrasound. We ran. We went to dr Kennedy in the morning he prescribed antibiotics and Ajax was fine. No cancer.I am not saying dr Kennedy is a miracle maker but after 10 years of my dogs being his patients I can say he is a great doctor and he loves animals. His objective is to help your pet. He will not push any unnecessary procedures to make the bill bigger and in consequence put your pet through hell. He is honest. He always gave us options and wasn't shy of recommending specialists if the the situation would worsen and would require surgery and such but he always managed to cure them. You will not find bunch of cheery assistants in his practice. You will not be treated with bunch of praises and complements about your pets by friendly and overexcited stuff. You will not see fancy plasma TVs on the walls nor marble floors. You will see a small, modest office tucked in a corner, where you will meet a doctor who is direct, straight to the point and only concerned about wellbeing of his patients.
