They are particularly noted for their expertise in addressing nerve damage, lameness, and other challenging musculoskeletal or neurological issues. Their commitment extends beyond a typical clinic setting, often involving a mobile service that brings specialized care directly to their patients, ensuring convenience and comfort for the animals. As one client eloquently put it, after their dog with severe nerve damage was facing amputation, "Apple is regaining some use of her paw....we continue to have hope." This embodies the practice's dedication to finding solutions and offering hope even in difficult situations.
Equine & Canine Wellness, PLLC is based out of 10 Chestnut Dr O, Bedford, NH 03110, USA. While they have a physical office, a significant aspect of their service model is their ambulatory (mobile) nature. This means that for many services, especially for horses, they come directly to you! This on-site model is incredibly convenient for animal owners, reducing the stress of transportation for injured or sensitive animals and allowing assessments to take place in their familiar environment.
Located in Bedford, New Hampshire, the practice is centrally positioned to serve a wide area of Southern New Hampshire, including communities like Manchester, Nashua, Merrimack, and Amherst, as well as broader regions for equine clients. The ease of contacting them to arrange an on-site visit streamlines the process of getting much-needed specialized care.
Equine & Canine Wellness, PLLC offers a highly specialized range of services, focusing on diagnostics, rehabilitation, and wellness, particularly for performance animals or those with complex conditions. Their approach often integrates traditional veterinary medicine with complementary therapies.
- Diagnostic Ultrasound: Used for detailed imaging of soft tissues, tendons, ligaments, and internal structures to accurately diagnose lameness and other conditions.
- Digital Radiology (X-rays): Providing clear and immediate images of bones and joints to identify fractures, arthritis, and other skeletal issues.
- Acupuncture: A traditional Chinese medicine technique used to alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and promote healing by stimulating specific points on the body. This is a common complementary therapy offered for a variety of conditions, including nerve damage and chronic pain.
- Veterinary Spinal Manipulation (Chiropractic): Similar to chiropractic care in humans, this involves adjusting the spine and other joints to improve mobility, reduce pain, and enhance neurological function.
- Therapeutic Laser Therapy: Using specific wavelengths of light to reduce pain and inflammation, and accelerate tissue healing. This is particularly useful for injuries and post-surgical recovery.
- Herbal Therapy: Utilizing natural botanical remedies as a complementary treatment for various conditions, often tailored to the individual animal's needs.
- Soundness Evaluation & Treatment: Comprehensive assessments to identify the cause of lameness or poor performance in horses and dogs, followed by targeted treatment plans. As one client described, Dr. DeDeo was able to diagnose their dog "when everyone else was totally stumped."
- Rehabilitation Programs: Developing customized exercise and therapy plans to help animals recover from injuries, surgeries, or neurological deficits, aiming to restore strength, mobility, and function. This is critical for cases like the dog with nerve damage mentioned in the review, where regaining paw function is the goal.
- Pre-Purchase Exams (Equine): Thorough veterinary evaluations of horses before purchase, assessing their health and soundness to identify potential issues.
- Saddle Fit Evaluation (Equine): Addressing how a saddle fits a horse, as poor fit can lead to back pain and performance issues.
Equine & Canine Wellness, PLLC stands out through several distinctive features and highlights that underscore their commitment to innovative and compassionate animal care.
- Ambulatory (Mobile) Service: A major highlight is their ability to bring specialized veterinary care directly to your location. This is especially beneficial for equine patients, minimizing the stress and logistical challenges of transporting a horse. For canine patients, it offers convenience and a familiar environment. As their website indicates, they are "completely ambulatory, meaning we do not have a brick & mortar facility, we come to you!"
- Expert Diagnostic Acumen: The reviews consistently praise Dr. Jackie DeDeo's ability to diagnose complex and elusive conditions that other veterinarians might have missed. One client's experience of their dog being "totally stumped" by others, only for Dr. DeDeo to research, follow up, and provide a diagnosis, exemplifies this exceptional diagnostic skill.
- Integrative and Holistic Approach: They combine conventional veterinary diagnostics with complementary therapies such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, and veterinary spinal manipulation. This allows for a more holistic treatment plan that addresses the root causes of issues and supports the animal's overall well-being and natural healing processes.
- Unwavering Compassion and Dedication: Clients frequently highlight the deep care and dedication shown by the team. The story of Dr. DeDeo making a "NO CHARGE" follow-up visit near a client's home, simply to confirm a diagnosis, showcases an extraordinary level of commitment and empathy, going above and beyond typical expectations. The client's sentiment, "What a caring smart veterinarian!", truly encapsulates this.
- Focus on Rehabilitation and Long-Term Wellness: Beyond initial diagnosis and treatment, the practice is committed to ongoing care to help animals regain strength and maintain health. For the dog with nerve damage, the continued visits to "keep my dog strong and healthy" illustrate this long-term approach.
- Personalized Treatment Plans: Given the complex nature of the cases they often handle, they develop highly individualized treatment plans, taking into account the unique needs and circumstances of each animal.
