- Stress-Reducing Environment: For pets that are easily stressed or anxious, the clinic’s calm and patient approach makes a huge difference. The decision to choose Great Lakes Hospital for Animals is an easy one for Michigan pet owners seeking a clinic that combines professional expertise with genuine compassion. The reviews from real clients tell a story of a practice that truly cares. One owner of a cat with "complex health issues" shared their success after trying several other vets, noting that Great Lakes made a "huge difference" in their cat's quality of life. This kind of success story is a powerful indicator of the clinic’s medical proficiency.
Another compelling review came from the owner of a special-needs dog named Derpy. This story perfectly encapsulates the clinic's philosophy. The staff’s willingness to perform an examination on the floor with the owner, and their ability to keep a nervous, visually-impaired dog calm during multiple procedures, speaks volumes. The ultimate success—that the dog didn’t have a seizure out of stress—was an emotional moment for the owner and a clear sign of the staff’s skill and care. The client's assertion that they would "never step foot into another veterinarian’s office" and their trust in the clinic's fair and itemized pricing are the highest forms of praise. This feedback underscores that Great Lakes Hospital for Animals is more than a business; it’s a trusted partner that puts the animal's well-being first.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We have three cats, one of whom has complex health issues. We unsuccessfully tried several vet offices before finding Great Lakes. The docs and staff have been exceptionally supportive and willing to try treatment options. They have made a huge difference in Stevie's quality of life!
August 29 · Ds DaultI could wax lyrical for days about this place!! They are wonderful people. I have been there twice now. Which is a testament to how good they are. No half assed job to get money. The photo is of Derpy. He cannot see, he’s slightly deaf and has seizures. So occasionally he smacks into something bc he will insist on chasing one of our other cats and runs. Hence Derpy. I digress. He had sprained his back hip and so he felt comfortable his treatment was done with ALL of us sitting on the floor. Your animal comes first here, not you which is how it should be.Derpy is very happy around them and even though this time he had his ears prodded and his teeth looked and, the ultimate insult, his nails clipped! Oh and two shots and medicine in his ears he stayed calm (he was spicy having his manicure though)He let the staff do what they needed to do even though he couldn’t see them and best of all, he didn’t seize. I could’ve cried with gratitude. I am now waiting for an estimate to have his teeth cleaned. I don’t really need to bc he’s not going anywhere else. I just want to prepare husband’s credit card. But I know he’s not going to be ripped off as everything is itemized. So if you are contemplating going to this practice then contemplate no longer. Go
April 09 · Eva ClarkOur little bull terrier puppy Stevie is a trouble maker and swallowed a screw, a ring, and some other random stuff. They were able to do surgery the same day I brought her in at a very reasonable cost. We are new to the area and new clients to the practice and very happy with our choice! Thanks Dr. Houle and vet tech Mikayla!!
March 03 · Brittany PlumbSpent over $250 and the only prescription my dog left with for her severe ear infection was a steroid. It's been 10 days since our trip to the animal hospital and she still, very much, has her ear infection. The steroid has obviously helped relieve some of the pain she was in before, but for >$250 I don't know if I'd say it was worth it.Made an appt with our regular vet (a week out) and even though I know it's going to cost even more money, at least I can feel confident that my pooch will get the right meds to actually get her feeling healthy again.Pro's-Super Clean (and smelled great!)-Place for kids to sit and draw in the waiting area.-most of the staff was very friendly-they are open when nowhere else is. (We are from Muskegon)
June 03 · Trudy GorenfloJust want to add another positive note from today. I really appreciated the care that my dogs Zoe and Eloise received from Grace, Madison, and Dr. Smith this afternoon. The kindness, and compassion of everyone at Great Lakes is phenomenal. My 1.5 year old Boxer named Quinn required emergency surgery, that they were able to perform ASAP. This saved me thousands of dollars at the Animal Emergency Hospital. Tragically, Quinn did not make it, but they were willing to try everything within their abilities to save him, and they shared in the sorrow of losing him.😢😢😢💔💔💔A heartfelt thank you to Dr. VanHouten, Mikayla and everyone else for trying so hard, and for loving, and holding my sweet boy when I couldn’t be there.♥️
