Just Cats Veterinary Care Introduce
For cat owners across New Jersey, ensuring their feline companions receive dedicated, compassionate, and expert veterinary care is paramount. Unlike general veterinary practices that cater to a variety of animals, Just Cats Veterinary Care in Edison, NJ, stands out by focusing exclusively on the unique health needs of cats. This specialization means that every aspect of their facility, from the waiting room to the examination tables, is designed to minimize stress for your whiskered family member, providing a "bark-free zone" where cats can feel comfortable and unthreatened.
The philosophy at Just Cats Veterinary Care is rooted in the understanding that cats are not simply small dogs; they possess distinct physiology, behaviors, and medical requirements. New Jersey pet parents who appreciate this nuanced approach will find a team of highly trained professionals dedicated to feline health. They are committed to staying current with the latest advancements in medical science and best practices for cats, ensuring that your feline receives the most effective and informed care available.
One of the recurring themes from positive client feedback highlights the dedication and affordability found at Just Cats. As one long-term client shared, Dr. Jan "has very competitive prices and will go above and beyond to give excellent care to all her patients. She always spends as much time with the cats as needed, and answers any questions that we have." This demonstrates a commitment to thoroughness and client education, ensuring that New Jersey cat owners feel heard and informed about their pet's health journey. The contrast with other local vets, where a client reported being "charged over $800 for a couple of tests and not to mention the staff was incredibly rude," further emphasizes the perceived value and positive client experience at Just Cats. For many New Jersey residents, finding a vet who provides quality care without "bleeding you dry" is a significant relief.
It is important for prospective clients to be aware that while many experiences are positive, there can be varying outcomes, as with any medical practice. A review detailed a tragic and deeply distressing experience where an 11-month-old kitten, Zuko, passed away during a procedure involving sedation. The client expressed profound dissatisfaction with the communication surrounding sedation risks, the handling of their pet, the lack of immediate answers post-incident, and the perceived lack of empathy and follow-up during a difficult time. This review serves as a crucial reminder for all pet owners to engage in thorough discussions with their veterinary team about proposed treatments, potential risks, and to ensure they feel comfortable with the communication and care plan before proceeding, especially for procedures involving anesthesia or sedation.
Just Cats Veterinary Care aims to be a comprehensive resource for feline health, covering everything from preventative wellness to advanced diagnostics and surgical procedures. Their dedication to a cat-only environment is a significant advantage, reducing the anxiety often experienced by cats in mixed-animal practices. This focus allows them to tailor their equipment, facility design, and even their approach to handling to better suit the sensitive nature of cats. For New Jersey cat owners, this can lead to less stressful vet visits, which in turn can contribute to better long-term health outcomes for their pets.
Ultimately, the choice of a veterinary care provider is a deeply personal one, influenced by individual needs, priorities, and experiences. Just Cats Veterinary Care, with its specialized focus on felines, offers a unique value proposition for New Jersey cat owners. They aim to treat every patient as if they were their own, providing expert medical and surgical care while emphasizing client education from kittenhood to end-of-life care.

Just Cats Veterinary Care Reviews
Dr. Jan is great! My husband has been taking his cat to see Dr Jan since before we were married. She has very competitive prices and will go above and beyond to give excellent care to all her patients. She always spends as much time with the cats as needed, and answers any questions that we have. I took our cat to another vet in the area and they charged us over $800 for a couple of tests and not to mention the staff was incredibly rude. Stick to Just Cats because they don’t bleed you dry just to take care of your fur baby.
May 06, 2025 · jenny moonIf you want your cat to die without explanation, bring them to this facility. I would leave zero stars if I could. My boy Zuko was only 11 months old when I brought him in for profuse vomiting. He was acting normal otherwise, and was eating, using the litter, and playing. I called on a Tuesday and was told to give him half of a Peptid AC and bring him to emergency if his vomiting persisted, which it did not until the morning of our scheduled appointment. When I brought him at 11 am on Thursday, Dr. Jan noted his abdomen was inflamed and suggested an x-ray and sedation (to calm him) without informing me on the possible risks of sedation. I must also add that she and her technician took zero measure of calming him down and handled him quite roughly. Zuko was an endlessly sweet boy and I just assumed he was afraid of the vet, which I also thought was normal for animals being a first time pet owner. I was then simply given a consent form, again, without communication of possible side effects of sedation. Trusting her, I signed it. I now understand that was a terrible mistake. She had me leave him at the facility for a few hours and I was to pick him up later. She then called me at 3:15 and informed me that “something went wrong” and that Zuko had died. She gave him the sedation and his heart stopped. She also failed to give him adrenaline of any kind until his blood was no longer circulating. My partner and I arrived to the facility immediately upon hearing the news and Dr. Jan was distraught, stating that death by sedation is very rare and never happens. Zuko never even received an x-ray for the original cause of the visit. I am left with no answers as to how he passed as she was completely in shock as well and could give us little professional insight. She told us she did not know. There was no suggestion or offer of an autopsy of any kind. When we were viewing his body, she came into the room with memorial papers and had to run back to “another sick cat.” It’s possible Zuko was given the wrong medication or too much of the sedative, but when we called to ask for a statement to provide our family with more closure and clarity, she provided us with an illegible photocopy of his medical records. When we went to pick up his ashes, she wasn’t at the office as it was her day off. I’ll note that she knew that we were coming to get his ashes that day and that day the office was only open for 3 hours. I had planned to ask more questions, but she was treating it like it was any other day for her. Meanwhile, our lives were ruined. At that point I decided to report her to the NJ veterinary board because I was tired of chasing her around for answers. That process takes from 6 months to a year or longer. I am left with no choice but to write this review. We are devastated by the loss of Zuko, our 11 month old kitten, whose life was cut short. Dr Jan failed to act in a timely manner to treat him. Maybe I should have brought him to emergency, but his vomiting had stopped for a period. Regardless, I will never know because we were given no explanation. And the fact that she couldn’t be bothered to be present for our arrival to pick up his ashes to answer any more questions we had (under the circumstances) was even more heartbreaking. I’m writing this review to reach anyone that it may concern and let them know Dr. Jan Rottenberg cannot be trusted to provide adequate care and failed to perform her due diligence after the fact.
Mar 18, 2025 · Ashley BacchusThe best feline vet in the state of NJ. Honest, helpful, and kind. Dr. Jan and her staff are amazing. I know she isn’t taking new patients at the writing of this review, but she is the best.
Nov 03, 2024 · Jennifer KetrowI can not even begin to say enough nice things about Dr. Rothenberg! I've had cats all my life, and lots of cats means lots of vets, and Dr. Rothenberg impressed me like no other vet ever has.First you can tell she really cares about her patients. I didn't feel like I was just another paying customer she was in a rush to get out of the office so the next paying customer could come in. She actually pulled out a calculator and helped me figure out the best feeding plan for my slightly overweight cat. Never had a vet do that, and I've been trying to get my cat to lose weight through several vets now. Not only that, but she diagnosed an issue that 3 other vets had diagnosed as allergies even though it was a chronic issue year round.Second she didn't blink an eye or mention anesthesia when I inquired about bringing my half feral 'scaredy cat' in for a visit. This wonderful woman must have years of experience with badly socialized cats if she showed no hesitation in dealing with my wildish cat. Other vets have NOT responded like that...I've had a couple vets actually look scared at the prospect of dealing with this particular cat.Lastly, and what I found most impressive, was her talking to me about issues my large male cat experienced with a recent FVRCP vaccine. She wasn't terribly familiar with his breed off the top of her head (it's an odd breed) so she pulled out a book and looked it up. She helped me find answers for my cat's issues and he wasn't even the current patient. That right there proves she gives a damn. Most vets would say 'bring him in for a visit' and leave it at that.My search for a vet is over!!! I'm considering bringing all of my cats in for exams even though they aren't due for one...that's how impressed I was with Dr. Rothenberg.
