As a general veterinary practitioner, Kevin Gross DVM would typically offer a range of services designed to address the common health needs of companion animals, primarily dogs and cats. While specific unique or highly specialized services are not detailed in the provided information, a standard general practice usually includes:
- Wellness Examinations: Routine check-ups, physical examinations, and general health assessments to monitor a pet's overall well-being.
- Vaccinations: Administration of core and lifestyle-dependent vaccines to protect pets against common infectious diseases.
- Parasite Prevention and Control: Recommendations and prescriptions for flea, tick, heartworm, and intestinal parasite prevention, as well as testing and treatment for existing parasitic infections.
- Basic Diagnostics: This would typically involve physical examinations and potentially some in-house laboratory tests for common conditions, such as blood work (e.g., for general health panels, pre-surgical screening) or urinalysis. For more advanced diagnostics like X-rays, external referrals or in-house capabilities would vary by clinic.
- Treatment of Common Illnesses and Injuries: Diagnosis and medication for conditions like skin infections, ear infections, gastrointestinal upset, minor wounds, and other non-critical ailments.
- Prescription Medications: Dispensing necessary medications for various conditions.
- Nutritional Counseling: Basic advice on appropriate diets for pets based on their age, breed, and general health.
- Microchipping: Offering permanent identification to increase the chances of reunion if a pet becomes lost.
Based on the provided information, the features and highlights related to Kevin Gross DVM are primarily centered around the client's direct experiences, which convey significant concerns.
- Client Longevity (Initial Trust): The review indicates that the client had been "seeing Dr. Gross for a few years," suggesting an initial period of trust and consistent patronage before the reported negative experience.
- Recommendation for Further Diagnostics: Dr. Gross did recommend a chest X-ray for the patient. This indicates an understanding that more advanced diagnostics might be necessary to identify an underlying issue, even if he did not initially detect it during a physical examination.
- Availability of Medications: The client obtained medications for the cat from Dr. Gross's office during the period of treatment for the heart disease, indicating a dispensing capability for common pet medications.
However, it is critical to acknowledge the significant concerns raised by the provided customer reviews, which constitute the primary highlight information available. These concerns include:
- Perceived Diagnostic Deficiency: The primary highlight, unfortunately, is the severe discrepancy in diagnostic findings. The reviewer explicitly states that Dr. Gross was "unable to hear the fluid in her lungs" during a stethoscope examination, a condition that was immediately detected by another vet at an animal hospital. This raises significant questions about the thoroughness or accuracy of the initial examination for this specific case.
- Lack of Empathy and Blame Shifting: A major highlight of the negative experience was the perceived lack of empathy from Dr. Gross when informed of the cat's rapid decline and subsequent diagnosis. The reviewer states he "tried to shift all the blame on us for not doing the chest x-ray" at the initial appointment, despite the reviewer's insistence that the initial advice on the rapid breathing was that it "could just be normal for her." This perceived defensive reaction and absence of compassion during a highly distressing time for the pet owner is a critical highlight of the reported experience.
- Questioning Qualifications: The reviewer's experience led them to "question the vets qualifications" due to the inability to detect a significant medical issue (fluid in lungs due to heart disease) that was quickly identified by another practitioner.
- Breakdown of Trust and Client Departure: The "horrific experience" ultimately led the client to switch to a new veterinary practice for all their pets, indicating a complete loss of trust and a strong recommendation against returning.

For pet owners in the New York region, particularly those in East Meadow and surrounding Long Island communities, choosing a veterinary care provider is a profoundly personal and important decision. When considering Kevin Gross DVM, it is essential for locals to evaluate all available information to determine suitability for their cherished companions.
Based on the provided information, which includes direct customer reviews, the suitability of Kevin Gross DVM for locals comes with significant considerations. While the practice is conveniently located on a main road in East Meadow, offering accessibility for local residents, the most prominent feedback from a customer highlights a concerning experience. The review details a situation where a critical condition in a cat (fluid in lungs due to heart disease) was reportedly missed during an initial examination, and the subsequent interaction with the vet was perceived as lacking empathy and shifting blame. This type of experience can be incredibly distressing for pet owners, especially when dealing with the severe illness and eventual loss of a beloved animal.
In general, a suitable veterinary practice for locals should offer comprehensive care, clear communication, diagnostic capabilities that instill confidence, and, perhaps most importantly, a compassionate and supportive approach to both pets and their owners. While a single review does not encompass the entirety of a practice's operations, the strong negative sentiment expressed, questioning the veterinarian's qualifications in a specific diagnostic instance and citing a lack of empathy, is a significant data point that prospective clients in New York would need to weigh carefully.
For locals seeking veterinary care, a primary consideration is the ability of the practice to accurately diagnose and effectively treat conditions, coupled with a supportive environment during challenging times. The reported experience suggests potential areas where this practice may not fully meet those expectations for some pet owners, especially in urgent or complex cases. Therefore, while Kevin Gross DVM is geographically present in East Meadow, New York, and offers general veterinary services, locals should exercise due diligence, perhaps by seeking additional feedback or considering other local options, to ensure they find a veterinary partner that aligns with their expectations for comprehensive, empathetic, and reliable pet care. The decision of where to entrust a pet's health is deeply personal, and a thorough assessment of all available information is crucial.

Kevin Gross Reviews
Horrific experience here. We’ve been seeing Dr. Gross for a few years and took our 1 year old oriental short hair because she wasn’t eating, breathing very rapidly and acting different. He listened through the stethoscope and did some other checks and said he couldn’t find anything wrong and recommended a chest X-ray. He also said the fast breathing could just be normal for her.A few hours later we take our cat to the animal hospital because we knew there was something going on and as soon as the new vet listened through the stethoscope she was able to hear fluid in her lungs. We then did the X-ray and had the fluid drained and found out she had a heart disease.Within a week we had to put her down because the disease progressed so quickly. Before we put her down she was on two medications which we were getting from Dr. Gross. When we told him what happened, he claimed he told us to get a chest x ray at the original appointment, not believing he could have heard anything in the lungs like the second vet did. There was no empathy from him and he tried to shift all the blame on us for not doing the chest x-ray. This experience really made me question the vets qualifications as he was unable to hear the fluid in her lungs as the other vet did in a matter of seconds. Since then we have switched to a new vet for our 3 fur babies and will never return here.

May 21, 2023 · Danny JacobsWe needed to bring in two of our cats in for a check up, because they hadn't one in almost a year. We needed two separate appointments since we can't catch both at the same time. The staff and doctor were very nice, with no pressure to give me her any shots. Our cats are only indoors, so I don't see the need for any more vaccinations.I would certainly recommend this practice to anyone looking for a vet for their animals.
