Kitties & Kanines Pet Resource Center, Inc. Introduce
For many pet owners across the Arkansas River Valley, access to high-quality, routine veterinary care can be a challenge due to cost. The Kitties & Kanines Pet Resource Center, Inc. in Fort Smith was founded to address this exact need, operating as a crucial non-profit organization and state-of-the-art veterinary clinic dedicated to improving animal welfare through affordable services. Since opening in 2009, this center has been a pioneer, becoming the first of its kind in Arkansas to focus on providing low-cost solutions for pet overpopulation and general wellness.
Kitties & Kanines works under a powerful, mission-driven goal: to empower pet owners and keep animals healthy and in loving homes. They achieve this by removing the two main barriers to responsible pet ownership—high cost and lack of access—particularly for essential procedures like spaying and neutering. Their model is uniquely focused on the community, offering significantly reduced prices for a wide range of services, supported entirely by generous grants, fundraisers, and donations. This means that when you choose Kitties & Kanines, you are not just caring for your own animal, but you are supporting a broader mission of compassion and life-saving work throughout the region.
The clinic is not a full-service, comprehensive animal hospital—rather, it is a specialized center concentrating on preventive medicine and population control. The staff and veterinarians are widely praised by the community for their kindness, dedication, and the love they show for every animal they treat. They understand that a pet is family, and this compassionate, non-profit spirit is evident in every interaction. Whether it is a routine vaccine visit or a spay/neuter surgery, clients often comment on being treated with kindness and respect by truly amazing people who are motivated by the love of animals.
The clinic's life-saving work is critical to the Fort Smith area, performing thousands of spay/neuter surgeries and administering countless vaccines annually, directly combating pet overpopulation and homelessness.
Address: 4300 Phoenix Ave, Fort Smith, AR 72903, USA
The center has been designed to ensure ease of access for all community members, a necessary consideration given its role as a key resource. The facility offers on-site services and provides excellent accessibility features:
- Wheelchair accessible entrance
- Wheelchair accessible parking lot (with free, on-site parking available)
- Wheelchair accessible restroom
While the clinic focuses on high-volume services, and operates a wellness clinic with walk-in hours for some basic services, **appointments are recommended** for most veterinary and surgical procedures, especially spay and neuter surgeries. Pet owners should always call the clinic to confirm current operating hours and scheduling requirements for the specific service they need. The dedication to community access is reflected in their policy of not asking for proof of income, ensuring anyone who needs help for their dog or cat can receive affordable treatment.
- Spay and Neuter Surgeries: High-quality, low-cost Spay And Neuter Surgeries for dogs and cats, the primary mission of the organization.
- Vaccinations: Comprehensive Dog Vaccines and Cat Vaccines, including Puppy Shots, helping protect pets from common illnesses.
- Microchipping: Affordable Microchipping services, essential for permanent pet identification and safe returns.
- Preventive and Testing Services: Heartworm Testing and provision of Heartworm Medication, as well as Fleas And Ticks prevention/treatment. They also offer the Fecal Test for parasites and the Felv/Fiv Test for cats.
- Minor Wellness Procedures: Basic services such as Nail Trim and Ear Cleaning.
- Adoption Services: Facilitating Cat Adoption for indoor-friendly cats that have been spayed, neutered, and are in reasonably good health.
It is important for clients to note that the focus on low cost may include policies regarding concurrent treatments. For instance, if an animal undergoing surgery is found to have a flea or worm infestation, the clinic will provide treatment for an additional fee to ensure the animal's immediate well-being. Pet owners should be prepared for the possibility of minor additional fees for necessary care that falls outside the initial scope of service.
- Non-Profit, Mission-Driven Care: The center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, meaning their veterinary services are fundamentally motivated by the love of animals and the goal of saving lives, not profit. This ensures clients receive care at a greatly reduced scale.
- Pet Food/Supplies Pantry: To aid owners struggling to feed and equip their pets, the center operates a community pantry providing Cat Food and other supplies, helping to keep pets in safe homes with their families.
- High-Volume, High-Quality Surgery: The clinic has a reputation for successfully performing thousands of Spay and Neuter Surgeries annually using high-quality surgical techniques and equipment.
- No Income Requirement: They proudly treat any dog or cat brought to them, without requiring proof of income, truly making essential care accessible to every member of the Arkansas community.
- Rescue Organization Partnerships: Kitties & Kanines works closely with local rescue groups, providing discounted services that aid these organizations in their life-saving missions.
- Address: 4300 Phoenix Ave, Fort Smith, AR 72903, USA
- Phone: (479) 434-4740 or +1 479-434-4740
Due to the high demand for their low-cost services, calling ahead for surgical appointments is strongly recommended.
Choosing this non-profit means that every dollar you spend is channeled back into the mission, helping not only your pet but also countless others through the Pet Food/Supplies Pantry and discounted rescue services. While it is important to communicate clearly about potential additional costs for pre-existing conditions like flea infestations or worms—as noted in some customer experiences—the overall value proposition is unmatched. Their veterinarians and staff are dedicated animal lovers who treat pets with the care and compassion one would expect from a trusted community organization. For responsible pet ownership that is both affordable and impactful, Kitties & Kanines Pet Resource Center is the premier choice for dogs and cats in the Fort Smith area.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- They take such good care of our animals there. They are a non- profit so donations are welcome! They do this for the love of animals. We have been treated with kindness everytime we go and they are just amazing people. Happy Feyre just got spayed there and she is doing great. She's even smiling today and she only lost her lady parts yesterday! March 26 · Jamie Ralston
- From what I read on the website if my dog had a flea infestation that would be the only time they would treat her for fleas during her spaying appointment. I check my dog regularly for fleas and ticks, she did not have an infestation. There was very few on her in the last week. I’ve seen maybe a max of 7 on her and not all at once either. I was charged for a flea treatment and because of the flea treatment they also added on a deworming treatment. The entire cost of the visit wasn’t supposed to be more than $98 max before the added $3 charge they do on card payments. If i could give zero stars I would. 0/10 experience, will not be bringing any of my animals here ever again. July 14 · Mourning in the Morning
- Front Desk, techs, volunteer's and every vet we have had through the years have been friendly and kind. They are good about answering questions and treating our cat very kind. Prices are reasonable and they offer several shots besides the rabies. Since it is a walk in clinic you do have to wait depending how many other pets and owners are ahead of you. There is a waiting area with chairs and other pet owners you can strike up a conversation with to pass the time. We have always been pleased with the service and will continue to bring our cat every year. If your looking for a good place with people who care and reasonable fees then I would recommend you go to this clinic. May 18 · Dawn Caldwell
- Very efficient and good communication. Had two puppies spayed and I love the fact they give pre- anesthetic as soon as they come so the pets aren't sitting in cages with anxiety. The only thing I would change is that there is cat food out everywhere and these dogs are hungry going down t he hallway and it was a fight to keep them out of each kitty dish. May 22 · Erin Balog
- I had my cat Iris fixed here, they did a wonderful job. Very kind. First time ever using this place, everyone made me feel very comfortable which I appreciate. Iris is healing up great! I'll definitely be coming back to this vet with any of my animals. April 13 · Jade McLemore
