For many families, the ability to have a single, trusted location for veterinary care, grooming, and boarding is a significant benefit, saving time and simplifying the logistics of pet ownership. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1They saved my mom's cat and gave her excellent care, going above and beyond anything I've ever seen from a veterinary office. We appreciate them more than they will ever know.
July 21 · Michelle Stockard MillerI've been bringing my pets to Northwoods Pet Care Center for over a year for veterinary care without issue, but after boarding my dogs here, I can no longer trust them with my animals. When we dropped our dogs off, we were asked if we wanted them bathed during their stay. They told us it was $47 per dog per bath, and we declined - even leaving the slot blank on the paperwork. When we returned to pick them up, they tried to charge us for bathes anyway, claiming they "had" to bathe them because the dogs had accidents in their cages. I would have understood a quick rinse if truly necessary, but not a $47 per-dog up charge we never agreed to. Another staff member even brought out paperwork with a circled "yes" and initials that my Fiancè and I never wrote - it looked forged. To make matters worse, the staff complained to us that it took 45 minutes to bathe one of our dogs, as though it was our fault, when in reality, they had left him in a caged area for 14 hours straight without letting him out, which likely caused the accident in the first place. Now they did take the charge of bathing off our bill, but we did not appreciate this charge being initiated without our consent. That was another huge issue: their "boarding" setup is not what I would call proper boarding. The dogs are locked in cages from 5:30pm to 7:45am with no bathroom breaks, no exercise, and no one checking in on them. That's 14 hours trapped in a cage overnight, which is not acceptable for any animal. They charge $37.50 per dog per night, which might seem reasonable, but for that price, I would expect at least basic care - like bathroom breaks, exercise, and supervision. When we got home, I also noticed a small gash on my dog's back leg. I called to ask what happened, and was told "nothing happened" - that it must've been from the cage. I asked if they had done any grooming other than bathing since the gash was a very straight line, and was told no. But clearly, the dogs also had their nailed trimmed, which means the staff flat-out lied to me on the phone. I appreciated the nail trimming and that my dogs were bathed but I just wanted to know what happened and why I wasn't informed. If they can't even be honest about simple grooming, how can I trust them with my pet's safety and well-being.Between the unauthorized charges, and the lack of proper care, the dishonesty, and the fact that the facility is not truly equipped to safe boarding, I will not be bringing my animals back here. It's disappointing, because I trusted them for medical care, but if a facility is willing to lie directly to a client and cut corners on care, I can't feel comfortable leaving my pets in their hands.
August 16 · Emma BeemanThis vet was great for checkups until the last checkup I took my cat to in March, where they told me I needed to get my cats tartar removed/dental cleaning. They gave me an estimate that was around $500. As a young adult/recent college graduate, that was not something I could afford. So I did not make an appointment to go forward. Last week, I called back and asked for the estimate, since I didn’t have the physical copy. On the phone, they estimated it would be $170 and I was happy because that was a more affordable price, so I went through with the procedure. Well I just left and I was charged $472. I suppose it’s on me for not asking for a physical copy of the estimate, but this establishment is not competent and does not care about your animal, only wants money from you.
May 20 · Lauren FulkThis used to be a place I trusted — especially with Dr. Kolesar, who in the past was compassionate, thorough, and truly seemed to care. Unfortunately, that level of care has completely vanished, and my experience over the past few months has been nothing short of devastating.First, let’s talk about the front office. Whitney and Autumn are the definition of two-faced — dismissive, rude, and completely unhelpful on the phone, but as soon as you walk through the door, suddenly they’re all smiles and sunshine. It’s fake, transparent, and frankly insulting. If you care about your pet, the last thing you want is to be gaslit or brushed off by people who are supposed to be part of your animal’s care team. Now onto Dr. Kolesar. I used to sing his praises. But the way he handled my dog Finn’s condition was negligent and careless. A large, fast-growing mass in a dog’s armpit — already affecting mobility — should have immediately warranted a specialist referral. Instead, we were told it was “likely nothing” and sent home with nothing but a fine needle aspiration, a test that is not effective in identifying liposarcoma. We waited two months under false reassurance before finally taking matters into our own hands and securing a consult ourselves. The specialists were shocked we had waited so long, and the first thing they said was, “You should’ve been sent here immediately.”This delay could have compromised Finn’s quality of life, and it happened because a once-respected vet couldn’t be bothered to take our concerns seriously. It felt like Dr. Kolesar had checked out — no empathy, no urgency, and certainly no regard for how terrifying this experience has been as pet parents. The only redeeming part of this clinic is Dr. Shinsky. She’s a rare gem in that building. Her empathy is genuine, her care is evident, and she takes the time to truly listen. A few of the vet techs also stand out as kind and professional. But unfortunately, their efforts are overshadowed by the apathy and arrogance of others on staff.I wouldn’t recommend this place anymore. If your pet’s health matters to you — and I know it does — look elsewhere. Especially if you’re hoping for proactive, respectful, human care. Because you’re not going to get it here anymore.
July 14 · Easton HamelThe staff- specifically Whitney, Erica and Autumn- are completely incompetent! They force you to pay to use an outside pharmacy for pet meds, which I agreed to and paid. Four weeks later and they continue to deny my prescriptions! I confirmed with 2 different people that I paid the fee, one of them being the office manager. Then they say I have to pay even MORE. This vet office is all about the MONEY and they don’t care about your animals! You just lost a loyal customer that spent thousands of dollars at your business all over a $22 fee- way to go! You made a mistake and instead of eating the cost to keep your customer, you chose not to. Terrible way to run a business.
