What is worth choosing
For pet owners in Michigan, particularly in the Ithaca area, choosing a veterinarian involves balancing practical considerations with a clinic's professional and personal approach. Williamson Veterinary Service offers a long history of serving the community since 1978, which speaks to a deep-rooted presence and familiarity with the local animal population. Their emphasis on practical, straightforward care and willingness to accept Care Credit can be appealing for clients who need assistance with veterinary expenses. The clinic's rural setting may also be a positive for some, providing a calm and familiar environment away from the bustle of a larger city. The wheelchair-accessible car park and entrance also demonstrate a commitment to making their services available to all.
However, it is vital for any potential client to consider all available information, as some reviews of Williamson Veterinary Service raise serious and concerning issues. Multiple negative reviews stand in stark contrast to the positive testimonials on the clinic’s homepage. One client's review, in particular, details a "traumatic" experience during the end-of-life care for their 20-year-old family pet. The review alleges "rude, unprofessional, MEAN, heartless, utterly insensitive" behavior from a staff member, which they describe as a "specific nightmare." This deeply personal and emotional account highlights a potential for a severe lack of empathy during one of the most difficult moments a pet owner can face. The client felt they were "begging" for a "professional loving touch" and a "soothing surroundings" with "no positive results." They ultimately felt forced to stay due to the harsh weather, and express a deep sense of trauma and guilt over their last memories of their pet being in such a negative situation. This experience is a significant factor to consider when evaluating a clinic for such a sensitive service.
Another review from a different client describes the office itself as "filthy," with "ants all over the floor" and a medical tray "full of dirty used needles, rags and syringes." This raises serious concerns about cleanliness and hygiene protocols. The same review also alleges that the vet was "EXTREMELY unprofessional and rude," did not listen to their concerns, and overcharged for a visit that lasted less than ten minutes. The reviewer explicitly states, "I would NEVER recommend for anyone to bring their animals here," and feels that the positive reviews "give a false appearance as to what to expect." While these are serious allegations, they are part of the public feedback available and should be weighed against the clinic's stated purpose and long history. For clients prioritizing compassion, a clean environment, and open communication, these negative experiences are critical to consider before making a choice. The positive feedback from some clients, which often mentions a "wonderful secretary," suggests that there may be a difference in experience depending on the staff member encountered. Therefore, new clients are urged to exercise extreme caution and may want to visit the facility in person for a preliminary assessment before entrusting their pet to this service.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Negative 5 stars would be appropriate! We have never left a review~ But this was by far one of the saddest experiences of our lives! Our hearts are broken! As huge pet lovers, we feel obligated, in the very least to warn others about this facility. We hope that this deters anyone from even thinking of visiting this mess! Please believe us when we say, it’s not worth the trauma we are facing! We had to make the humane yet toughest decision to send our 20 yr old family pet to cross the Rainbow Bridge. My only child. After initially reading the positive reviews on their homepage we felt comfortable enough to call. (Sadly we found the other negative reviews here, after the fact, had we known otherwise, we wouldn’t be here going through this pain). We’re taking this time to try as we navigate through our grief to articulate this the best we can. Hoping this will alleviate some of my guilt as well! Hoping to save others from a world of heartache. The assistant initially seemed accommodating, helpful, caring, & reassuring~ main factor of going forward w/taking our sweet little fur baby to be put to rest. We felt at peace during the time waiting up until our dreaded appointment. This is something that had to be done w/ of course the least amount of distress put upon her. It was essential that we not put any unnecessary stress on her or us, especially at the end of her long happy life. To venture out in a storm, miles away was necessary. They were not taking new patients. It was considered an emergency, so they were “willing to help”. Seeing it was a countryside farmhouse vet we had some solace. Wow were we wrong; utterly shocked! One wouldn’t think it is too much to request so badly wanting a safe space to comfort our loved one as they went to sleep; a loving atmosphere for all involved. It is so essential for a smooth, peaceful transition, also for the sake of mental health to have this when putting down their family member fur baby. If you are looking for compassionate loving care, this is not the place! Sadly we feel deceived. We made the mistake of assuming that there would be a professional loving touch & soothing surroundings. But to have to beg w/ no positive results is unconscionable. Having our sweet baby wrapped in her blanket~sheltered, walking up the slippery approach from the fresh fallen snow & frigid winds, we approached the building, opened the door expecting welcoming staff to soothe our worries. We sadly discovered the polar opposite. This left me in confusion… I trusted somebody with “that much experience” would help us through one of the most toughest times of our lives. We honestly thought, w/ our own experiences of having pets put down, there would be a loving staff there to comfort & support us. This was the complete opposite. This was the most rude, unprofessional, MEAN, heartless, utterly insensitive medical individual we have ever crossed paths with, in our entire life. SHAME ON HIM! I will not go into detail of the specific nightmare that we endured. We would have left if it was not for the assistant! It is not my nature to go against my instincts, but I did not think it was fair to our baby to put her through more unnecessary anguish & go back out into the harsh weather at dark to try to find a facility after hours. If it wasn’t for those factors, we absolutely would’ve left! There was zero empathy & sympathy from the “other”. Pure evil! We are trying to force our minds to erase this unfortunate situation to be the last memory of our precious angel. It’s traumatizing even thinking about how negative of a situation we were in during her last breaths. I try to give the benefit of the doubt & multiple chances to others. I feel like I was doing the right thing. Yes the assistant was kind. Sadly that wasn’t enough to make up for the inexcusable behavior of the “other”! I pray to be able to forgive myself! I pray for this elderly individual to retire. It is time! If the purpose of me being here now is to reach only one more person, then that’s the reason why I was put in this position.
December 19 · Tesla Band FanI don't normally write reviews but I am appalled at the way I was treated at this vet.The "office" is filthy, there are ants all over the floor, dried up medicine dripping down the cabinets, there is a medical tray full of dirty used needles, rags and syringes. The vet is EXTREMELY unprofessional and rude. I should have trusted my gut and turned around and left. When I brought in my foster dog he was not weighed, the vet could not conduct any blood work tests needed for my foster and did not listen to my concerns about his health issues. I was in the office for less than 10 minutes and the rescue was charged over $90. Total money grab and I would NEVER recommend for anyone to bring their animals here. The rest of the reviews for this place give a false appearance as to what to expect. The ONLY thing this place has going for it was the wonderful secretary, which is why I scheduled with them in the first place.
April 12 · Brianna BrownReasonable fees for good animal care. If you want your pet treated like a human, for human healthcare-level prices, go to the local animal hospital instead. Dr. Williamson is EXACTLY the sort of veterinarian I need! I've always been able to get my cat in at short notice when she needs antibiotics for a UTI. So glad a friend told me about this place!
October 22 · Jessica LitwillerAwesome experience! I felt like I actually got some help for my 🐈 Knowledgeable and didn't over charge me. When no one else would see my pet, he did! Thank you Dr. Williamson.
