I'm truly disheartened to write this review after trusting Oakland Vet with my Shih Tzu's care for nearly a decade. Despite bringing her in repeatedly for persistent blistered toes, inflamed ears, and chronic eye issues, the care provided by Dr. Dorsey and Dr. Hart was consistently surface level. Each visit resulted in the same treatment: ointments and antibiotics, which temporarily helped but never addressed the root cause. I repeatedly expressed concerns as her condition worsened, yet no proactive steps were taken to investigate further. Her ears remained severely inflamed until she eventually became deaf. Her toes were consistently blistered, causing her pain, and her right eye was always bloodshot and uncomfortable. The vet prescribed ointments that never worked, and her vision ultimately deteriorated completely. Throughout these years, we were never once referred to a specialist for her chronic conditions. In 2023, we finally switched to Providence Veterinary Hospital in Alameda, and the difference in care was staggering. During our first visit, the vet immediately suspected a food allergy and referred us to a dermatology specialist. We removed chicken and beef from her diet, and within weeks, the blisters and ear inflammation stopped. For years, this simple dietary change had been overlooked. The new vet also diagnosed her with dry eye, prescribing daily tear supplements and referring us to an ophthalmologist--a specialist we never even knew existed for pets.Sadly, these crucial discoveries came too late. The years of untreated inflammation had already left her deaf and her vision impaired. It's heartbreaking to know that had we received this level of thorough care sooner, her quality of life could have been significantly better.I don't write this review lightly, but I feel compelled to warn others. Oakland Vet, despite its high rating, lacks the proactive, detailed care pets need--especially when symptoms persist. The team at Providence went above and beyond, and while their services are more expensive, the quality of care is unparalleled.I wish I had trusted my instincts and sought a second opinion earlier. My Shih Tzu gave us so much love, and it pains me to know she endured unnecessary discomfort because of missed diagnoses and reactive care. If your pet has ongoing issues, don't hesitate to seek a second opinion--it could make all the difference. Sadly, our beloved Shih Tzu passed away in 2024 at the age of 17. While her loss is heartbreaking, we find comfort knowing we gave her the best final two years with the compassionate care at Providence Vet in Alameda. - Alan Liang
