Based on available public information and customer feedback, St Louis Veterinary Clinic offers a range of services for pet care. While a comprehensive list of all services is best confirmed directly with the clinic, the provided reviews indicate specific areas of focus.
- Ear Cropping: One review specifically highlights "ear cropping procedure" and "tail docking procedures," indicating that the clinic provides these specialized cosmetic surgeries, particularly for certain breeds like pitbulls, aligning with "show style" preferences for dogs.
- Vaccinations: Although not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews, vaccinations are a fundamental service for any veterinary clinic, and it can be assumed they offer routine immunization to protect pets against common diseases.
- Medication Dispensing: The review mentioning being charged for "Benadryl" suggests that the clinic dispenses medications, likely for various pet ailments.
- Boarding (with significant caveats): The detailed negative review about boarding services indicates that this is a service the clinic offers. However, the review highlights severe concerns regarding cleanliness, pet well-being, and adherence to medication/feeding schedules during boarding, which potential clients should consider very carefully.
- General Check-ups/Visits: The nature of a veterinary clinic implies general consultations for pet health issues, although specific details are not provided.
It is important for prospective clients to understand that while a clinic may offer a range of services, the quality and customer experience for each service can vary. For specialized procedures like ear cropping, clients have expressed satisfaction with the results. However, for services like boarding, the highly negative review necessitates extreme caution and thorough inquiry by pet owners.
St Louis Veterinary Clinic has some distinct features and highlights, though it is crucial to present a balanced view given the provided customer feedback.
- Specialization in Ear Cropping and Tail Docking: A significant highlight, as indicated by a positive review, is their perceived expertise and positive results in ear cropping and tail docking procedures, particularly for "show style" pitbulls. This makes them a potential choice for owners seeking these specific cosmetic services.
- Fast Follow-Up Visits for Specific Procedures: For clients utilizing services like ear cropping, the review notes that "the 1st visit was fast as well as all follow up visits," suggesting efficiency for these particular ongoing treatments.
- Affordability for Specific Procedures: While one review mentioned pricing for ear cropping was "kinda pricey," the overall tone implies satisfaction with the value for the specific result, potentially making them a go-to for these niche services despite the cost.
- Significant Concerns Regarding Boarding Conditions: A highly negative review details "unsanitary conditions" during boarding, including "filthy" floors and cages, "no litter...full of feces," and a pet found "detached" with "no food and only a drop of water." This is a critical point for any pet owner considering boarding services.
- Concerns About Medication Adherence During Boarding: The same negative boarding review explicitly states that medications were not given and food was not regularly provided, which is a severe concern for pets requiring daily care.
- Customer Service and Communication Issues (implied): While not directly stated as poor customer service for medical consultations, the boarding incident and the difficulty in locating the boarded cat, along with the subsequent lack of records, suggest potential systemic issues in patient management and communication. The "overwhelming bleach smell and dried blood" observed in the waiting area also raises concerns about general clinic upkeep.
For those considering St Louis Veterinary Clinic for their pet's needs, especially for specific procedures like ear cropping or if you wish to inquire further about their services, please use the following contact details. It is always recommended to call in advance for appointments and to verify any specific concerns you may have.

Given the mixed reviews, particularly regarding boarding, it would be prudent for pet owners to ask very specific questions and perhaps conduct a direct visit to assess conditions, especially for services where hygiene and consistent care are paramount.
For pet owners in Oakland and the surrounding California region, St Louis Veterinary Clinic presents a nuanced picture as a local veterinary care provider. Its suitability largely depends on the specific needs of the pet and the expectations of the owner.
The clinic appears to be a recognized option for specialized cosmetic procedures such as ear cropping and tail docking, with one review indicating satisfaction with the results for "show style" dogs. If these particular services are your primary need, and you are comfortable with the described pricing and efficiency for these procedures, the clinic could be a viable choice.
However, it is crucial for local pet owners to be fully aware of the serious concerns raised by a detailed customer review regarding boarding services. The reported unsanitary conditions, lack of proper feeding and medication administration, and the distressed state of a boarded pet highlight significant issues that should be a major consideration for anyone contemplating boarding their animal here. The feedback also hints at potential broader concerns regarding overall clinic hygiene and record-keeping, as evidenced by the difficulty in obtaining vaccination records from another clinic with similar issues.
In summary, while St Louis Veterinary Clinic may cater to a specific niche for certain cosmetic procedures, its overall suitability for general veterinary care or, more critically, boarding, is questionable based on the severe negative experience shared. For locals, thorough research, direct communication, and potentially a physical visit to the facility before committing to any non-surgical, prolonged services, especially boarding, would be highly advisable to ensure your pet receives the level of care and hygiene you expect and they deserve.

St Louis Veterinary Clinic Reviews
I boarded my cat there while I went out of town for a week. When I dropped him off I gave all his medications he needed to take every day and gave them a list to follow along with his food. when I got back the lady that was in charge of boarding for many years told me she would go get him. After a long wait she came back and said she couldn't find him. She then asked me to go with her to see if i could locate him as well. When I got to where they boarded the animals I was appalled by the unsanitary conditions. The floors were filthy, and the cages were just as filthy. After a few minutes I located my cat and saw how his state was I was very angry. He looked detached and didn't even move when he saw me. Normally he would have. I then noticed he was laying next to a box with no litter in it full of feces. I also saw that he had no food and only a drop of water in his bowl both sitting against the litter box. I finally got him in his carrier and when I picked up his food bag it was barely half full. He obviously was not given food regularly. I do not recommend anyone to take their pet there to be boarded ever. I am sad yet disgusted how I found him and the conditions I saw that only staff get to see aside from the overwhelming bleach smell and dried blood you can see in different places on the floor in the front waiting area. How this place has a 4.1 rating is beyond me. For those that have a "good" experience there it is just a matter of time before something bad happens to you're pet. I will NEVER take my pet to this place EVER again.
Jun 19, 2025 · freespiritKinda Pricey for the ear cropping procedure. But overall the results were good, The 1st visit was fast as well as all follow up visits. I do recommend them for your ear cropping and tail docking procedures. My pitbulls ears came out good for the show style. We will be returning with our new member of our pitbull family for her ear cropping procedure. Maybe we will get a discount for being frequent pet patients.
Jul 02, 2025 · Craig SmithBest Vet for our doberman Rambo. The staff is very good. We referred our cousin's dog Spiky, he was not getting relief in any clinic. But once he visited here, he got well after the first visit. This clinic is a blessing for animals.
Mar 25, 2025 · ARVIND PURIThey did a great job on kano's ears, this is him at 6 months old. Definitely recommend them for all ear cropping! Mar 25, 2024 · Pablo LopezThey where my go to vet for years until today. Brought in my puppy of 6 weeks. They took a parvo test which supposedly came out negative. I waited for hours in the exam room waiting for next step while dr.tan was on phone with his lawyer. I left after 4 hours of waiting their staff was rude and unprofessional. I went to castro valley animal hospital they did another parvo test and it turns out she is positive( castro valley animal hospital did 2 test). St louis vet staff was no help at all my pup was there throwing up for hours getting worse by the minute while staff walked by looking clueless. They lost a customer. Im pretty sure they are getting sued aswell . They were one of the better vets to go to once upon a time definitely not no more. Yes they will charge less but whats the point if they cant diagnose pets properly
