Oklahoma City Equine Clinic Introduce
For dedicated horse owners in Oklahoma, having access to a specialized, full-service equine veterinary hospital is essential for maintaining the health and performance of their animals. **Oklahoma City Equine Clinic (OCEC)** is a long-standing, dedicated resource, established in 1990, serving Oklahoma City and its surrounding communities, including Guthrie, Edmond, Norman, and Yukon. This facility is unique in its focus, dedicating its entire practice to **Equine Only** medicine, ensuring that every piece of equipment, every procedure, and every team member’s expertise is geared toward the complex needs of horses. OCEC offers a comprehensive range of veterinary medical care, from routine preventative health programs to advanced reproductive management and complex surgical procedures, all aimed at the goal of optimal horse health.
The clinic’s mission centers on providing clients with a team of veterinarians and support staff who are committed to the highest standards of veterinary care for horses of all shapes, sizes, and disciplines—from backyard companions to high-level performance and breeding stock. They pride themselves on combining years of experience with modern diagnostic and therapeutic techniques to ensure first-rate equine veterinary care.
Oklahoma City Equine Clinic is centrally located in the OKC area at **400 NE 70th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73105, USA**. The facility is situated on a spacious 24-acre property, which provides ample room and a suitable environment for the examination and care of equine patients, and is conveniently located within a 10-minute drive of major equine centers like the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds and Remington Park racetrack.
The clinic is structured to be welcoming and accessible, recognizing the often challenging logistics involved in transporting a horse, especially one with an injury or illness.
Accessibility and amenities at the facility include:
- **Wheelchair accessible entrance:** Ensuring easy access for all clients entering the hospital area.
- **Wheelchair accessible parking lot:** Convenient, designated parking spaces.
- **Wheelchair accessible restroom:** Accessible facilities inside the clinic.
- **Restroom:** General amenities for client comfort.
Due to the specialized nature of equine veterinary services, OCEC operates primarily by appointment. They request that new clients complete a client information form prior to their first visit. While they offer **24 Hour Emergency Care**, it is important for owners to note that this specialized emergency service is offered to their **established clients** within their practice area. Non-established clients calling after-hours for an emergency like colic may be subject to a review of their payment and client status before services can be rendered, as noted in their payment policy and by client experiences. It is strongly recommended to establish a relationship with the clinic beforehand to ensure eligibility for this critical after-hours service.
OCEC is a full-service equine hospital offering a deep array of services across health, sports medicine, and reproduction. Their dedicated focus allows them to offer specialized care that a mixed-animal practice may not provide.
A broad overview of the specialized services offered includes:
- **Equine Sports Medicine & Lameness:** Comprehensive services including lameness evaluation and exams, full physical examinations, gait analysis, joint injections, nerve blocks, and farrier consultation for corrective shoeing. Facilities include a dedicated lameness examination pad/track and outdoor riding area, supported by digital radiography and digital ultrasonography.
- **Equine Reproduction Services:** Extensive mare and stallion management. Services include breeding soundness exams, artificial insemination, frozen semen breeding, reproductive surgery, embryo transfer, neonatal care, and in-house stallion collection and semen freezing.
- **General and Preventative Equine Medicine:** Routine medical care, preventative health programs, exams and vaccinations, parasite control, full physical examination, health certificates, and purchase examinations (pre-purchase exams or soundness exams).
- **Advanced Diagnostics & Imaging:** Utilization of state-of-the-art equipment including digital radiographic and digital radiography systems, diagnostic ultrasonography, and an in-house laboratory for blood work and lab tests, ensuring prompt and accurate diagnosis.
- **Equine Surgery:** Offering a variety of elective surgical procedures, from routine dental work and castrations to more complex medical and surgical interventions. They utilize gas anesthesia and general anesthesia with blood pressure monitoring.
- **Specialized Therapies:** Including animal chiropractic and services for specialized health conditions like dental health and blood pressure monitoring.
- **Emergency Services:** **24 Hour Emergency Care** for established clients, covering colic, lacerations, and acute illnesses, with the option for intensive care hospitalization.
What truly makes the Oklahoma City Equine Clinic worth choosing is the combination of its historical commitment to equine-only practice and the depth of its veterinary team's experience. The founding partners and subsequent veterinarians, such as Dr. Carroll, have dedicated decades to various equine disciplines, from racetrack medicine to specialized breeding farm practice and advanced assisted reproduction techniques. For instance, Dr. Carroll’s focus for the past twenty-five years has been almost exclusively on breeding farm practice, bringing a high level of reproductive management expertise to clients. Furthermore, OCEC is committed to ambulatory and field services, maintaining equipped vehicles to provide routine preventative maintenance procedures and investigation of health concerns like lameness and reproductive issues directly at the horse's location when appropriate. This dual capacity—offering both high-tech hospital care and convenient field services—provides tremendous value to busy Oklahoma horse owners.
Features and Highlights that emphasize OCEC's quality and commitment:
- **Equine-Only Focus:** The entire facility and staff are specialized, ensuring a focus on the specific physical and psychological needs of horses.
- **Reproductive Expertise:** A regional leader in equine reproduction services, including advanced techniques like embryo transfer, semen freezing, and comprehensive mare and stallion management.
- **Established History:** Founded in 1990, the clinic has a long-standing record of serving the Oklahoma equine community.
- **Ambulatory Care Availability:** Offering field services for routine care, health certificates, and non-hospital-bound emergencies, providing convenience for local horse owners.
- **On-Site Facilities:** Located on 24 acres with dedicated lameness tracks, examination rooms, and hospital stalls for intensive care.
- **Advanced Technology:** Routine use of digital radiography and diagnostic ultrasonography to expedite accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
- **Full Surgical Capacity:** Equipped to perform general and elective surgery under general anesthesia with dedicated post-operative care.
While the clinic offers exceptional care, potential clients, particularly those new to the area or seeking after-hours service, should take note of the documented emphasis on client establishment and payment policies. To ensure seamless access to all services, especially the critical 24-hour emergency care, new horse owners are highly advised to call during business hours to complete the necessary paperwork, discuss payment agreements, and establish their client relationship before an emergency arises. This proactive step will help guarantee that your horse receives immediate attention in a time-critical situation.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- We called this location last night as we had a colicing horse. The Doctor we spoke with was more worried about getting paid than seeing our horse. We were then told that since we were not an established client, we could not be seen. We informed that Doctor he was our 3rd call and he admitted he was new. I definitely would not recommend this place for any after hours animal needs. September 05 · Chris L.
- We used this vet because our regular vet could not do our procedure. This vet was highly recommended to us. We drove 3 hours to their facility to inquire about nerving on his foot. The vet advised us that they could do the procedure and so we left our horse there for surgery for roughly 4-5days. We get a call 3 days later and they told us he had already had the procedure prior to our ownership and could not be done. So we drove back up there to get the horse, slightly frustrated. This could have been seen during a lame exam and the x rays they took on the spot. On our arrival we were handed a $1200.00 bill for nothing. Their little charges will nickel and dime you to death. Beware. You may want to find out what they are going to charge you for a service or even no service..... August 05 · Daylon Cullum
- Not recommend, had to schedule an appointment long distance, the vet who saw my horse said he was hard to handle and that his teeth were really bad. She charged me for several farm calls and teeth floating. When I got him to my home vet, he was easy to manage and my vet said his teeth did not look floated and were not chronically bad. - My new boyfriend works out of town. His horse had a miscarriage, all I saw was guts hanging out of her butt and freaked. I called OKC Equine and Dr. Miles immediately came to the rescue. Thank you Dr. Miles and staff for helping me and Wisky through this terribly scary experience. I'm so greatful for your swift action and professional courtesy. You and your staff were such a blessing to us on such short notice. Wisky is already bouncing back from her tragic loss and I couldn't be happier!!! Again, thank you all so very much!!!!
