I would not recommend them. They were difficult to deal with in scheduling. The actual vet appointment lasted a long time and we were told a lot of general information about skin issues but no treatment plan was given to or discussed with us. We were the just given a lot of medication at the end that was not explained. I found the vet tone and communication to be condescending and not effective. - Daniel Vandekoolwyk

Sacdermvet Introduce

For pet owners in California, particularly those in Sacramento and surrounding areas, dealing with persistent skin, ear, or allergy issues in our beloved animal companions can be incredibly frustrating. While general veterinarians are excellent for routine care, some dermatological conditions require a specialist's focused expertise. This is where SacDermVet, a specialized veterinary dermatology clinic in Sacramento, steps in, offering advanced diagnostics and tailored treatment plans for a wide array of skin and ear problems that often vex pets and their families.

SacDermVet is dedicated to diagnosing and managing complex dermatological conditions in dogs and cats. Unlike general practices that handle a broad spectrum of health issues, SacDermVet focuses exclusively on the intricate world of pet skin, coat, and ear health. This specialization means they possess advanced knowledge, diagnostic tools, and treatment protocols for conditions ranging from stubborn allergies and chronic ear infections to immune-mediated skin diseases and unusual haircoat problems. The clinic's approach is centered on uncovering the root cause of these issues, rather than just treating symptoms, providing long-term relief and improved quality of life for your pet.

While the name "SacDermVet" might bring to mind the address it shares with Summit Veterinary Specialty Center, it's important for local users to understand that these are distinct specialized practices, though they may collaborate on cases. SacDermVet is primarily focused on dermatology, with Dr. Terry Nagle being a prominent veterinarian associated with their specialized services in this field. Customer experiences with specialized clinics can sometimes vary, as the focus is on complex cases that might require detailed investigation. Some feedback indicates that communication around treatment plans could be enhanced, emphasizing the importance of clear dialogue with your vet. However, positive reviews highlight the expertise in dermatology and the potential for life-changing outcomes when the right diagnosis and treatment are achieved for persistent conditions.

Location and Accessibility

SacDermVet is conveniently located at 7465 Rush River Dr #830, Sacramento, CA 95831, USA. This accessible address makes the clinic a practical option for pet owners throughout Sacramento and the wider Northern California region who are seeking specialized dermatological care for their pets. Its location on Rush River Drive ensures straightforward navigation for those traveling from various parts of the city.

The clinic operates with specific hours, generally Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. As a specialty clinic, appointments are typically required, and new clients are encouraged to complete a detailed New Patient History Form online. SacDermVet will then contact your local veterinarian to obtain your pet's records and subsequently reach out to you to arrange an appointment. It's recommended to allow a couple of business days for this process. While a formal referral from a local veterinarian is not strictly required, proof of current rabies vaccination is. You can contact SacDermVet by phone at (916) 234-5722 for inquiries and to discuss scheduling.

Services Offered

SacDermVet specializes exclusively in veterinary dermatology, focusing on diagnosing and treating a wide range of skin, coat, ear, and claw conditions in pets. Their services include:

  • Diagnosis and Management of Allergies: Specializing in all forms of pet allergies, including seasonal allergies (environmental allergies like pollen, dust mites, mold), flea allergy dermatitis, and food allergies. This involves detailed history taking, physical exams, and sometimes advanced diagnostics to pinpoint allergens.

  • Skin and Ear Infections: Expert treatment for chronic or resistant bacterial (including resistant Staph and Pseudomonas infections), fungal (like ringworm), and yeast infections affecting the skin and ears. They aim to resolve current infections and identify underlying causes to prevent recurrence.

  • Immune-Mediated Skin Conditions: Diagnosis and long-term management of complex autoimmune skin diseases that can be challenging to treat in general practice.

  • Haircoat Problems: Addressing various conditions leading to hair loss (alopecia), dull coats, or other haircoat abnormalities.

  • Claw and Anal Sac Conditions: Specialized treatment for diseases affecting the nails/claws and issues related to anal sacs, which can often be chronic and painful.

  • Diagnosis of Persistent or Recurring Skin Issues: For cases that haven't responded to previous treatments or frequently relapse, SacDermVet provides in-depth investigations to find effective solutions.

  • Microscopic Examination of Samples: Often, at the initial appointment, samples are collected from the skin or ears and examined under a microscope in the clinic to aid in immediate diagnosis and guide the treatment plan.

  • Medication Management and Education: Providing prescriptions and thorough explanations of medications, including shampoos, ear drops, and oral treatments. They also focus on educating owners about their pet's condition and the rationale behind the chosen treatment plan.

  • Follow-up Care: Most dermatological cases require follow-up or recheck appointments to monitor progress and adjust treatment as needed, a crucial aspect of managing chronic skin conditions.

  • Collaboration with Primary Veterinarians: SacDermVet sends a detailed report to your local veterinarian after each visit, ensuring a collaborative approach to your pet's overall healthcare.
