- Part of the VCA Network: Being a VCA hospital means access to a broader network of resources, including a vast knowledge base from thousands of VCA veterinarians across the country. This can be beneficial for challenging cases or when specialized care is needed, as they can facilitate referrals to VCA Specialty Hospitals for advanced treatments.
- Compassionate and Understanding Staff (Variable): One review specifically praises Dr. Laura Winemiller for being "incredibly kind, compassionate and understanding," and highlights Mayra as "super kind and amazing." This indicates that individual staff members provide exceptional, empathetic care, making visits comfortable for pets and easing owner anxiety.
- Budget-Conscious Care (Variable): The positive review also noted that Dr. Winemiller "worked to get my cat the care he needed, all while within my tight budget." This suggests a willingness to consider financial constraints and explore affordable care options, which is highly valuable for many pet owners.
- Comprehensive In-House Facilities: The hospital is equipped to handle a wide array of services from diagnostics to surgery, minimizing the need for external referrals for many common conditions.
It is important to acknowledge the contrasting review, which expresses "very disappointed with the customer service provided by the staff" and a perceived lack of genuine concern for an aging dog's arthritis pain, instead receiving an expensive lab work quote. This suggests that while some clients have excellent experiences, others may encounter inconsistencies in service or communication, particularly regarding recommendations and cost transparency. The varying experiences highlight the importance of individual interactions within a larger hospital system.

VCA Westside Animal Hospital Reviews
This was my first time at VCA Westside, and the team is just fantastic. Dr. Laura Winemiller, my cat Winston’s vet was especially helpful. She was incredibly kind, compassionate and understanding, & worked to get my cat the care he needed, all while within my tight budget for what kind of care I could actually afford. And of course, above all, everyone was very sweet to my Winston. This was Winston’s most comfortable visit at the vet, and it was much smoother than I was expecting. Mayra also helped handle Winston, and she was super kind and amazing also. Thank you again!
Jun 20, 2025 · Peyton WilsonMy dogs have been patients at VCA Westside since we moved to West Sacramento 20 years ago. We took my dog to her annual exam about 3 weeks ago and I was very disappointed with the customer service provided by the staff at this facility. I've chosen to go here due to convenience and care over the years. However, this most recent visit has changed my mind and I will no longer be taking my pets here. The vet spent very little time with us. She also did not really address our concerns. My dog has arthritis due to age and I was asking about pain medication that could help her. Instead of giving a recommendation for anything I could do at home or a prescription pain med, I was given a quote by the front desk staff for a list of lab work that cost around $800. They said this lab work was recommended before any prescriptions could be provided. I was shocked. The front desk staff were not very friendly to me as they have been in the past. Very disappointed at the level of care.
May 26, 2025 · Dorena G.Have been taking pets (dogs and cats) for over a decade now. Don't know the track record for exotics, but they seem to have dogs and cats down pretty good. It was a bit hard to make appts during and post pandemic, but that seems to be less of an issue these days. Fast prescription refills. You may need to check in with staff occasionally for non-routine follow-ups.
May 10, 2025 · Jennifer BrattAppointment was quick and easy. Everyone was friendly. My dog was looked at with great care. These people sure love animals. Thank you
Mar 25, 2025 · Michael SkiWe have a new puppy and noticed blood in his stool. I called all over the Sacramento area to find an immediate vet appointment with no luck. When I called Natomas VCA, they made an exception and got us in first thing the following morning. The staff was amazing, no wait time to be seen, and Dr. Miller showed compassion and concern for both our puppy and us. The next day, I received a follow up text from the vet tech, Natalie, checking in to see how our baby was doing. When the test results came back, I received a call from Dr. Miller informing us that our puppy had Giardia, and would need medications. My husband picked up the meds same day, and our baby is on his way to recovery. This is the best vet clinic I’ve ever been to and I highly recommend them!
