Similar to humans, dogs and cats can get diabetes. The form in which a pet has absolutely no insulin is called Type I Diabetes (the inability to produce insulin). The other form, Type II Diabetes, occurs when a pet's body makes insulin, but either not enough, or there is a condition present that interferes with the function of the insulin (an insensitivity or resistance to insulin). As with most medical conditions, early detection and treatment of diabetes is recommended for the best possible outcome for your pet. Dogs and cats with diabetes can live happily and healthfully with the proper treatment and monitoring by both you and your VCA Animal Wellness Center of Maple Grove veterinarian. If you recognize any of the symptoms of diabetes in your dog or cat, contact your veterinarian right away to schedule an exam to test for diabetes and other potential causes.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Amazing clinic, grooming, and boarding experience. I really trust the staff with my pets due to Fear Free handling and their expertise. My dog always has so much fun at daycare— Highly recommend!!
March 20 · Brittney DehlerI do not even know where to start with this place. I had to stop bringing my wife's dog here awhile ago because the vet staff treated me like I was the scum on their shoes. Front desk are very nice and compassionate but then you get to the actual appointment and they talk to you like you are a toddler. I was always nice to them, even when treated horribly. My mom used to bring her dog here for boarding but had to stop because of how incompetent some of the staff were. She said some people were very nice and seemed knowledgeable but others seemed to have no clue what was going on. And her dog always came back smelling of pee and limping. Eventually she decided she no longer felt comfortable letting those people care for her pup. Would absolutely not recommend this place for any of their services.
July 22 · Teddit’s taken me over 2 years to finally get the courage to share this story. we had been bringing my dog to this place since we got him. one of the first things they ever told us was that his body size and shape made him susceptible to GDV, so we bought slow feeders and made sure to never take him for a walk after meals. our Charlie had some behavioral issues (only with new people) so since we already brought him here for the vet, we figured it would make sense to board him here. while he was there, they fed him breakfast and immediately let him out to run with other dogs. it took them almost a day to realize something was wrong. when they finally figured out it was GDV they convinced us to do the surgery when they likely knew, it had been too long. he managed to survive the surgery but his body was so weak he didn’t survive the night. you’d think vets would pay more attention but they didn’t, and something completely preventable ended up killing my dog. they sent the $15,000 bill the next day with no apology or sympathy. eventually a week or so later sent a card expressing their condolences. he was only 6. i still struggle to talk about him and this story bc it was not his time to go. please let Charlie’s story be a lesson and be so careful when boarding at this facility.
July 19 · Sam FritzI would give zero stars if I could. Brought our dog in for a post spay check up and to address swelling at the incision site. Was told it was a hernia and they wanted around 3,000 to save our dog. Got a second opinion and it turns out it was only a seroma and it healed after some time and antibiotics. They also were quite disrespectful during the appointment. I would advise anyone to stay as far away as possible from this establishment.
May 03 · Jason TandyThe vet tech that I worked with was really great, if not for that I would give this clinic just 2 stars. I felt so rushed by the actual doctor who did not check to see if I understood all the things she was throwing at me. In hindsight, it was a really great way of getting me to agree to services we didn’t actually need. I did not get a quote on those services & forgot to ask ahead of time, I ended up paying double what I paid for the same services at a different clinic (exam, bloodwork panel, vaccines) and nearly choked when I went to check out. Then, they called to let us know that they had forgotten to include one of the tests the vet wanted to run & it would be another almost $200 to do (we opted not to after already paying over $600). Looking back into our pup’s records we discovered that we had agreed to this test a year prior and they were unable to perform it because they didn’t collect enough urine - we still paid for the test itself at that time. I brought this up to the clinic & was told the manager needed to look into it & would call to follow up. That was 2 weeks ago now & nothing. Then, they prescribed antibiotics and we asked to have the prescription sent to our usual pharmacy. Hours later they let us know that our pharmacy didn’t have the dosage we needed. No alternatives were offered so I had no choice but to get them directly from the clinic. 10 little doses in a foil pack were over $35, GoodRx said we could get that for less than $10 at most pharmacies. When I asked about the price difference they said there was a ‘fulfillment charge’ included. Counting to 10 is expensive apparently. We’ve been going for a long time and the quality of care has plummeted while the costs have skyrocketed. We’re moving all 5 of our animals to Maple Grove Pet Hospital instead.
