In the world of veterinary care, especially in emergencies, a clinic’s reputation is often defined by its actions in moments of crisis. While VCA Orange County Veterinary Specialists offers an impressive array of advanced services and technology, it is crucial for potential clients to understand that some of the provided information, especially from past reviews, suggests a significant focus on financial matters before treatment is rendered. This is a crucial point of consideration for any pet owner facing a life-or-death situation with their animal.
Multiple reviews from clients have highlighted deeply concerning experiences, where they felt the hospital prioritized financial transactions over immediate medical assistance. One review describes a pet owner with a dying dog who was reportedly asked to swipe their card for over $10,000 before any medical help was given. The owner's claims of being handed back a dying pet after refusing the massive bill, and the subsequent passing of the animal, are deeply troubling. Another review details a similar feeling of being "nothing," stating they were given a wrong diagnosis that led to their pet’s death and were then ignored. These accounts suggest a significant disconnect between the promised care and the perceived reality for some clients, particularly in the most sensitive and urgent situations.
While the hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic tools like MRI and CT scans, and the presence of specialists is undoubtedly a positive aspect, these resources come at a high cost, and the willingness of the hospital to work with pet owners on payment plans appears to be limited. This is a critical factor, as it can be the difference between a pet receiving care and a family being forced to make an impossible decision. For pet owners in California, particularly when faced with a medical emergency, it is advisable to research and have a clear understanding of financial policies, payment plans, and potential costs before arriving at a facility like this, if at all possible.
In a life-or-death situation, the ability to act fast and with compassion is paramount. For some clients, the experience at VCA Orange County Veterinary Specialists has been one of great disappointment and emotional trauma. These stories serve as a powerful reminder that while a hospital may possess impressive technology and a long list of services, the human element of compassion, communication, and flexibility can be what truly saves a life and provides comfort to a family in distress.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Extremely regret coming here. I thought in a matter of emergency they would help my pet right away. They couldn’t care to do a single thing for her unless I swiped my card. if you have over 10k to spend in one swipe then this place wouldn’t phase you. There’s no payment plan or anything they care to help you with . My pet pet was in a life of death situation and I was recommended to come here and told that my vet called in advance so they would be ready. But when I arrived they looked at me and told me to sign paperwork. My pet sat in the back unattended “just kept comfortable” while I kept asking what all the fees were for and why it led to that price. There was no medical assistance given to her while I was questioning their massive bill, in which they made mistakes that I caught! After refusing they handing me my dying dog back and pretty much waved me goodbye and have a nice day…this place is about money and not saving your fur babies. My baby passed the next morning. I’ve been so traumatized from this place and their behavior I never wrote this review till now and my pet passed away a year ago. I know something could of been done the moment I walked in with her but they delayed all assistances for money so by the time I walked away she had lost that hope of making it through.
July 11 · Michelle SanchezI have called and tried to resolve my matter with this "clinic" but no one returned my call. This place led to our beloved pets death. They gave us a wrong diagnosis and after following the "Vet's" advise our pet passed away and they would not return our calls or talk to our family. The person we interacted with was very rough around the edges and dismissive. Someone like this should not work with pets. We are not working with corporate and with the city/state to file a formal complaint. If you have a pet do a lot of research into surgery centers just in case something happens. They do not care and made us feel like we were nothing. Our pet was 12 years old and could have survived if we had not followed the advice of the A T Vet.
August 18 · NumberOneHustlerDr Kayla Mochizuki is the name we always remember when thinking about my Kogi's last day on earth. We brought our Kogi to the hospital around 1:00am, July 10, 2015, and Kogi passed away around 4:00 am. We appreciate Dr Mochizuki and her staff for understanding and compassion for my Kogi during his last hours. I know you've tried your best to save my baby. Your care were exceptional. Thanks again Dr Mochi and your staff.
July 19 · Anthony TranI took my dog here for an emergency and cannot say enough good things about the clinic, staff, and how we were treated. Right away when I called they made immediate availability and started getting the team ready. When I arrived, Caroline on the care team was waiting at the door for me. And after they examined my dog and said that she wasn't in any immediate danger, they said they would waive the exam fee and recommended that I see my normal vet. The team clearly loves pets and we felt very well cared for, thank you!!!
May 22 · Max WangI would not recommend coming to this office unless you enjoy being grossly overcharged and treated dismissively. I brought my dog here for an overnight stay after he had a gastrectomy done at his primary vets office. Despite calling ahead 3 times to get a rough estimate, during which I was flat out told there was no charge, I was given a quote that was actually more than the cost of the surgery itself (the surgery was $2,500 and the quote for overnight monitoring was between $2,200-$2,700). Now I am not upset over being charged for the stay itself, it's the fact that over 80% of the charges were unnecessary and a blatant cash grab that is upsetting. The charges included medications that he had already been given (which was in the post op instructions I handed them) or things that he didn't need. I specifically told the care coordinator I did not want him to be given anything without being called first to which she agreed. The only call I got the next day was from the vet telling me he was ready to be picked up. So imagine my surprise to find out that still gave my dog things I did not agree to and specifically told them I did not want. They paid no attention to the post op paperwork they were given, lost the original quote they had me sign, and were completely dismissive of me. I was told the hospital manager would call me to discuss the issue and never received a call nor a call back. I am beyond disappointed and really hope no one else has to have the same experience I had.
