For pet owners in California, especially in the Sylmar area, choosing a veterinarian is a decision that often comes down to a balance of trust, expertise, and affordability. Vet Care Animal Center offers a powerful combination of all three. The clinic’s long history, dating back to 1969, and its family-owned status immediately suggest a deep commitment to the community and a personal approach to care that is often lost in larger corporate chains.
The most compelling reason to choose Vet Care Animal Center is the extraordinary story of Duquesa, the Chihuahua. Her owner's heartfelt testimonial detailing her survival through a major surgery after a dog attack and a serious spider bite is a remarkable endorsement of Dr. Meza’s skill and the staff’s dedication. This story proves that the clinic can handle not only routine care but also critical, life-threatening situations with a high degree of success. The client’s confidence is so strong that they have continued to trust the clinic with both of their senior chihuahuas for years.
Furthermore, the clinic's commitment to affordability, with low-cost vaccine and spay/neuter hours, makes essential preventative care accessible to a wider segment of the community. This aligns with their mission to provide a long and healthy life for pets. While the clinic’s no-nonsense approach may not appeal to everyone, as some may prefer a more gentle bedside manner, it is clearly valued by clients who appreciate a vet who "knows his stuff" and "says it how it is," without wasting their time. For pet owners in the San Fernando Valley seeking a knowledgeable, experienced, and compassionate team that is committed to their pet’s health at every stage of life, Vet Care Animal Center is an excellent choice.

February 14 · Gus JzI been coming to vet care animal center for years now. What I also value that it is a family owned business. 👨👩👧I have two Chihuahuas, one is 22 (Duquesa) and the other is 15 (Catrin)For my oldest dog Duquesa, Man! Dr. Meza and his wonderful staff has brought her back to life multiple times! When she was 16, she was attacked by a big dog and lost a lot of blood, I took her to Vet Care animal center, they gave her surgery, (of course with anything it can go 50/50, but that's my baby I had to give her a shot). She came back stronger than ever and low key it was like an added neck lift for her lol.At 18, she got bitten by a Brown Recluse Spider and started to have seizures. As an owner, I was freaking out!I thought the damn spider might have won and that would be the last of her. Once again took her to Dr.Meza and his wonderful staff (you girls are dope!), and with the treatments he prescribed, she was back to her normal self again with time.At 22, she is still with me and everyday can be her last.... but I want to thank Dr Meza and his staff for all the care for both Duquesa👑 and Catrin ☠️.Thank you!
November 09 · Angelica MedinaI'm giving Colette Veterinary Clinic Five Stars. If Dr Colette no longer owns this animal hospital I take back my five stars. Dr Colette was my vet for years. I was a young single working mother without a savings acct or credit cards. He did what needed to be done for my cats and dogs even surgery trusting me that I'd make payments.it was a verbal agreement only. The most kind good man and a great vet.
August 01 · Diana AndersonHaving been a veterinary technician until 5 years ago years I can recommend Dr. Meza enthusiastically. The reviews here which accuse him of being a mercenary who manipulates clients to fleece them out of their money are clearly from inexperienced veterinary clients - he is not like that, I have known vets who were and he is not one of them. Dr. Meza is competent, caring and very practical about treatment, he is not out to waste your money. He possesses a strong scientific curiosity and wants to diagnose and solve pet health issues, even going as far as taking an extra x-ray on my dog (and not charging me for it) because he wanted to take a look at another part of the dog. He is clear about the expectations for treatment results and every time my dogs have responded better than expected. He has been very flexible about doing testing and treatment in stages to spread the cost out over time when possible. I have met patients who he saved from the brink of death and my dog is able to walk again thanks to his expertise. If you want good care for your pets and don't have a fortune to spend I would highly recommend that you give this practice a try. And no this is absolutely NOT a fake review and I have very high standards for the vet care my pets receive. The four stars are only because of the limited hours that the practice is open, otherwise it would be five.
April 16 · Amy HernandezI regretfully must advise all pet owners to steer clear of Dr. Meza's veterinary clinic. Our experience there was nothing short of appalling, and it concerns me deeply that others might fall victim to their practices. My brother first brought his kitten to this clinic, where the staff immediately took the little one to the back without any accompaniment – a practice we've never encountered before and found quite alarming. After a short while, they returned the kitten. With a bill amounted to an outrageous $500. Shaken but skeptical, my brother sought a second opinion from their regular vet, who confirmed that the kitten was actually in perfect health. It is clear to us that Dr. Meza's clinic used scare tactics to manipulate us into unnecessary treatments, exploiting our love and concern for our pet. This is not only unethical but downright cruel. I urge anyone looking for compassionate and honest veterinary care to avoid this clinic at all costs. Protect your pets and your wallet from such predatory practices. My 6 week old kitten is now sick, unable to walk, and has a lack of energy. Mean while, before the doctor visit, my kitten had so much energy and drive to eat. Now, I'm sadly on the part of force feeding her to stay alive.
