Western U - Spay/Neuter Center specializes in high-volume, high-quality spay and neuter surgeries, serving as a critical resource for animal population control and preventative health in Los Angeles. While their primary focus is sterilization, they also offer select complementary wellness services.
- Spay (Ovariohysterectomy): Surgical removal of the ovaries and uterus in female dogs and cats to prevent pregnancy, reduce the risk of certain cancers (e.g., mammary, uterine), and eliminate heat cycles.
- Neuter (Orchiectomy): Surgical removal of the testicles in male dogs and cats to prevent reproduction, reduce the risk of testicular cancer and prostate issues, and curb undesirable behaviors like roaming and aggression.
- Pre-Surgical Exam: A necessary veterinary examination to ensure the pet is healthy enough for anesthesia and surgery. This includes a quick physical check-up.
- Microchipping: Offered as a crucial service alongside sterilization, providing permanent identification that significantly increases the chances of reuniting lost pets with their owners.
- Vaccinations: Essential vaccinations (e.g., Rabies, DAP, FVRCP) are typically offered to ensure pets are protected from common diseases, often at the time of surgery or during specific wellness service hours.
- Pain Management: Provision of necessary pain medication for post-operative comfort and recovery.
- Post-Operative Instructions and Support: Detailed instructions for at-home care and recovery, ensuring pet owners are well-informed for their pet's healing process. The center also provides cones (e-collars) to prevent licking of the incision site.
- Wellness Services: Starting April 12, 2025, they began offering wellness services on Saturdays from 11 am to 1 pm on a walk-in basis, requiring a wellness exam for each pet. These services complement their core spay/neuter offerings.
It is important to note that while they offer wellness services, their primary specialization is in spay/neuter procedures, and extensive general veterinary care or emergency services might be outside their scope.

- Compassionate and Caring Approach: Despite being a high-volume clinic, the staff excels in personalizing the experience. One reviewer noted that "the doctor even made friends with my normally apprehensive girl," and they "felt very comfortable getting the procedure done here." This demonstrates a genuine care for the animals' emotional well-being.
- Clear Communication and Responsiveness: The doctor took the time to "answer questions and respond to emails," which is invaluable for pet owners preparing for their pet's surgery. This commitment to clear communication helps alleviate anxieties.
- Excellent Surgical Outcomes: Reviews confirm successful procedures, with pets "healing great" and being "happy and healthy" post-surgery. The emphasis on providing necessary post-operative care, including "meds and the cone," contributes to smooth recoveries.
- Efficiency and Streamlined Process: As a high-volume clinic, they have an efficient system for check-ins, drop-offs, and pick-ups. While appointments might be challenging to secure due to demand, the process itself is well-managed.
- Acceptance of County Vouchers/Coupons: Their participation in county voucher programs is a huge advantage for Los Angeles residents, significantly reducing the financial burden of sterilization. This partnership highlights their dedication to community welfare.

I had a good experience with my pets so I highly recommend this place. before you go get your pets spayed/neutered get the coupon from the shelter that will help you lower your payment on any surgeries or vaccines. They are very helpful and nice.
Sep 03, 2024 · Wendy BonillaThey did a great job with my puppy's spay! The doctor even made friends with my normally apprehensive girl. Also, the doctor took the time to answer questions and respond to emails. We felt very comfortable getting the procedure done here! It cost $100, since we were able to get a voucher from the county website. Thanks a lot for taking care of our girl
Mar 03, 2022 · Ashley LuybenI looked for a place to spay my kitten for a while since it is something important but also can be super pricey at most places costing $250+ This place was honestly amazing it may be a bit difficult to get an appointment since they’re booked most of the time but I got lucky with a cancellation. My kitten was about 4 1/2 months old the whole thing went smoothly you call when you’re there to check in they do a quick check up on your pet to see if they are clear for surgery and then they’ll give you a time frame to come back and pick your pet up. I ended up paying $40 for the entire thing. It’s normally $70 for a cat spay but you can get an LA city voucher and use it at this clinic which can be for $70 off or $30 (highly recommend it’s very quick). Now it’s been a bit past 2 weeks my kitten is happy and healthy and her incision site is completely healed. Highly recommend this place!
