From the minute I walked into this place I was disgusted. These ppl should not own a pet shop, they only want the money and do not care about the pets. My friend asked me to find him a yorkie if not I would not even went in. I asked if they had Yorkies, the lady took me up two long flights of stairs and went to a little dark room and brought out a teacup yorkie. She was so frightened and boney. When I held her she reeked like nothing but cigarettes, you could of seen the black in her ears and the smell that came out of them was even worse. When the lady put her down she couldn't walk. We thought she had health issues but it’s because she was never let out of a cage from the time she was born. She kept falling with every step she took. I was heartbroken. I asked the lady how much did she weigh because all you felt was bones and she said no more than 2lbs. I looked at my hubby & said we must take her, this is wrong and neglectful. The lady said she smelled like cigarettes because the man that was there would smoke in that room where she was kept in the dark all day. I couldn't bare the thought. I questioned the man and he said “she will be okay” and I told him that's neglect, she's under 2lbs and her ears are black. She was so dirty. Lady said $1800 for her in which we told her we can take her for $1500, she said no. I told my hubby let’s just pay the $1800 and get her out of here. It took her over 3 hours to walk in my house, my hubby kept walking back and forth until she got the hang of it. I gave her a bath immediately and took her to the vet the next day to get checked. She had ear mites and yeast build up in her ears. 14 Q-tips later and her ears were still coming out black. Can you imagine?? 2 days later they called me her poop results came back with Parasites so more meds for that. We spent over $800 in medical to get her updated plus her vaccines. The friend I went to get the yorkie for said he could not take her now so we made the decision to forever home her. We named her Bella, she has been with us 2 months now and is so happy, gaining weight [now weighing 2.3lbs] and running around the house enjoying life. I guess that’s the only thing this place did good was let me find her. She is my forever baby now. BE CAREFUL BUYING FROM THIS DIRTY NEGLECTFUL PLACE. THEY SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN - Melissa S

Situated in a bustling part of the borough, this store offers a range of live animals, including fish and small pets, as well as essential supplies. For New Yorkers considering a new addition to their family or looking for pet provisions, understanding the full scope of a local business is crucial.

Northern Aquarium Pet aims to provide various options for those looking to acquire a new companion or maintain their current ones. However, it is important for prospective customers to be aware of all facets of the establishment, including both positive aspects and areas where customer experiences have varied. This overview will provide factual information about their location, accessibility, general offerings, and key points highlighted in public reviews, enabling local users to make informed decisions.

Northern Aquarium Pet is located at 135-02 Northern Blvd, Flushing, NY 11354, USA. This address places the pet store directly on Northern Boulevard, a major and heavily trafficked thoroughfare in Flushing, Queens. For residents across New York, especially those in the Queens area, this location generally offers good accessibility by car. Northern Boulevard connects various neighborhoods and is a prominent commercial strip, making the store relatively easy to find.

Public transportation is also a viable option for reaching the store. Multiple MTA bus routes operate along Northern Boulevard, providing connections to subway lines and other parts of the borough. This widespread public transport network means that even New Yorkers without private vehicles can access the store. Given its location in a commercial district, visitors may find street parking or nearby parking lots, though availability can vary depending on the time of day. This central and accessible location aims to serve a wide range of pet owners in the New York metropolitan area.

Northern Aquarium Pet, as a local pet store, generally offers a selection of live animals and various pet supplies. Based on publicly available information and customer feedback, their services and offerings typically include:

  • Live Fish: The name "Northern Aquarium Pet" suggests a primary focus on aquatic life. This would include various types of freshwater and potentially some saltwater fish, along with the necessary tanks, filtration systems, and water treatments.

  • Live Small Pets: Reviews indicate that the store sells small animals, including puppies (like Yorkies) and potentially other small mammals.

  • Pet Supplies: A typical pet store would offer a range of essential supplies for various pets, such as pet food (though specific brands are not mentioned in reviews for this location), toys, leashes, collars, and grooming products.

  • Live Crickets: This suggests they cater to reptile or amphibian owners who require live insect feeders.

  • Grooming & Pet Wash: Some directory listings indicate they offer grooming services and potentially self-serve pet wash facilities. It's advisable to call ahead for details on these specific services.

  • Pharmacy: Some information points to pharmacy services, which could involve dispensing certain pet medications.

Northern Aquarium Pet has received varied feedback from customers, highlighting both positive aspects and significant concerns. These features and highlights are drawn directly from public reviews and public data:

  • Accessibility and Convenience: Located on Northern Boulevard, the store is easily accessible for many New York residents, offering convenience for quick stops for pet supplies or to browse for animals.

  • Return Policy / Owner Understanding: One positive highlight mentioned by a customer is the owner's willingness to take a pet back without hesitation due to an owner's allergic reaction. This suggests a degree of understanding and flexibility in certain situations.

  • Positive Traits of Some Pets Sold: A customer noted that a Welsh Corgi purchased from the store was "lovable and friendly," "never barked," "wee wee pad trained instantly," and "loves cuddles." This indicates that some animals sold may exhibit desirable temperaments.

  • Serious Animal Welfare Concerns: A significant highlight, though concerning, is a detailed review describing severe neglect and unsanitary conditions for a puppy. This included the puppy reeking of cigarettes, having black ears with a bad smell, being bony, unable to walk properly due to being confined, and later diagnosed with ear mites, yeast buildup, and parasites. The review explicitly states, "BE CAREFUL BUYING FROM THIS DIRTY NEGLECTFUL PLACE. THEY SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN." This is a critical point for potential customers.

  • Questionable Health Practices: The same review details substantial medical expenses ($800+) immediately after purchase to treat the puppy's various health issues (ear mites, yeast, parasites), suggesting potential health problems with animals acquired from this location.

  • Customer Service Concerns: The interaction described with staff during the puppy purchase, including initial resistance to a lower price and dismissive responses ("she will be okay") regarding the puppy's poor condition, indicates potential issues with customer service transparency and responsiveness to animal welfare concerns.

For New Yorkers considering Northern Aquarium Pet, its suitability depends heavily on individual priorities and what one is seeking from a pet store. The store's accessible location in Flushing makes it convenient for residents in Queens and surrounding areas. It offers a range of live fish, small pets, and supplies, which might appeal to those looking for a diverse selection. The willingness of the owner to take back a pet due to allergies, as described by one customer, indicates a level of understanding in certain circumstances.

However, it is crucial for local users to be fully aware of the significant animal welfare concerns raised in a prominent public review. The detailed account of a neglected and unwell puppy, requiring substantial veterinary care immediately after purchase, is a serious consideration. While the review concludes with the heartwarming story of the puppy finding a forever home, it explicitly warns potential buyers about the conditions. For New York residents who prioritize animal welfare and the health of their future pets above all else, it is highly advisable to conduct thorough research, ask extensive questions, and potentially seek independent veterinary assessments before making a purchase from this establishment.
