Extensive Selection of Aquatic Life: The store is well-regarded for its diverse inventory of fish, catering to both freshwater and future saltwater tank enthusiasts. This includes a variety of species suitable for different tank sizes and experience levels, ensuring that customers can find the perfect aquatic inhabitants for their setups.
Comprehensive Aquarium Supplies: What's In Your Tank stocks a wide array of essential and specialized aquarium supplies. This likely includes tanks of various sizes, filtration systems, heaters, lighting, substrates, decorations, and water conditioners. Having such a comprehensive selection under one roof makes it a true "one-stop shop" for all aquarium needs.
High-Quality Live Aquatic Plants: While not explicitly mentioned in reviews, a specialized aquatic store like What's In Your Tank typically offers live aquatic plants, which are crucial for creating natural, healthy, and aesthetically pleasing freshwater environments. These plants contribute to water quality and provide natural habitats for fish.
Expert Advice and Guidance: This is arguably the most highlighted and valuable service offered. Customers consistently praise Sue for her extensive knowledge and "great suggestions." She is noted for "caring about her fish and wanting you to be successful with them." This personalized, expert guidance on "setting up and maintaining tank over the years" is invaluable, especially for complex saltwater setups or troubleshooting common aquarium issues. Her advice is seen as critical for tank success, setting this store apart from generic pet supply outlets.
Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Given the emphasis on Sue's advice and customer success, it's clear that the store provides support for common tank problems. They help customers understand why their "tank fails" when advice isn't followed, indicating a proactive approach to preventing issues and guiding customers towards successful long-term tank maintenance.
Several distinctive features make What's In Your Tank a standout choice for aquatic enthusiasts in Florida.
Unmatched Expert Knowledge: The most prominent highlight is the profound expertise of the staff, particularly Sue. Her deep understanding of aquatic life and tank maintenance is consistently lauded by long-term customers, making the store a reliable source of accurate and effective advice. This level of specialization is rare and highly valued in the pet industry.
Genuine Care for Aquatic Life and Customer Success: Unlike some other stores, What's In Your Tank demonstrates a genuine concern for the well-being of its fish and the success of its customers' tanks. This is not just about selling products but about ensuring that customers have the knowledge and tools to maintain healthy, thriving aquatic environments.
Long-Term Customer Relationships: The testimonials reveal customers who have been shopping here for "5 years" after trying numerous other stores. This speaks volumes about the trust and loyalty What's In Your Tank has built through consistent quality and reliable support. It suggests a focus on building lasting relationships rather than just one-time sales.
"One-Stop Shop" for Aquatic Needs: For those aspiring to or already managing complex setups like saltwater tanks, the store is highly regarded as a "go-to, one-stop shop." This indicates that customers can find everything they need, from the fish themselves to specialized equipment and expert guidance, all in one convenient location.
Commitment to Education: The emphasis on customers doing "your own research and listen to Sue's advice" highlights a subtle but important feature: the store actively encourages informed decision-making and continuous learning within the hobby. What's In Your Tank Reviews
Sue is always a pleasure speaking with when my family and I come in. She knows her stuff and gives great suggestions! 🥰Can’t wait to start a saltwater tank one day. This will be our go-to, one-stop shop!! 🤩
Jul 04, 2025 · Delilah DarlingBeen shopping here for 5 years after trying almost every other store in Tampa for 2 years. Sue has always been amazing and unlike some other stores I went to, she does care about her fish and wants you to be successful with them. Some people don't seem to take her advice and then complain when their tank fails but her experience has been invaluable to me while setting up and maintaining my tank over the years. If you want a successful tank do your own research and listen to Sue's advice 🙏🏼
Jan 17, 2025 · Caleb BrobergThis place is amazing and they have a really great selection. Literally the best in town. Owner was so nice and extremely informative literally the subject matter expert on fish tanks freshwater and salt They have a huge selection of aquatic life and plants I talk to the owner. She is going out of business so sad because if this place was somewhere else it would flourish. It’s a weird location if this location in Saint Pete, it would be flourishing. Best of luck to the owner
Feb 04, 2025 · Johnny BeardsleyLet me make this clear, owner of the shop is a very kind and sweetheart but will tell you how it is. From sick fish to bacteria or whatever, Sue knows what to do. We currently have 120 gallon saltwater tank for 2 years with all fish as healthy as can be because we listen to the professional. Sometimes people can’t handle the truth. Thank you Sue for helping us with our water world.( The Jet ski man)
Feb 05, 2025 · Jeremiah SandsFirst time going there and definitely the last. I walked in and wasn’t even greeted. Just stood there while the older woman (maybe the owner?) was busy chatting with someone—personal stuff, not work-related. I asked the friend she was talking to if she worked there, and she said no. Then out of nowhere, the older lady yelled across the place asking what I needed. Didn’t even bother to come over to help—just turned right back around and kept talking. Honestly, no idea how a business can run with that kind of attitude. And after reading her replies to bad reviews… yikes.
