Veterinary Emergency Group

Emergency veterinarian service, Animal hospital ★4.0

2700 Wilshire Blvd, Santa Monica, CA 90403, USA

4.0
I’ve been to many emergency vets in the last few years. I’m not sure how I didn’t know about VEG before. I felt the vets really cared and didn’t try to nickel and dime me like other animal hospitals in the area (I won’t name names but if you’re a pet owner I’m sure you know which big name one I’m talking about). While in the end my kitty wasn’t cured (cancer sucks :( ), they did all they could.I have other cats so in the event I need another emergency visit, I will def be coming back to this hospital. - Nathalie Chan

An Introduction to Veterinary Emergency Group: A New Standard for Pet Emergencies

When a pet emergency strikes, it’s a moment of profound stress and concern for any pet owner. In those critical moments, having a trustworthy, accessible, and compassionate emergency veterinary service is not just a convenience—it's a necessity. The Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) in Santa Monica, California, is designed to be just that. Located on Wilshire Boulevard, VEG offers a unique approach to emergency animal care. Unlike a traditional veterinary clinic with set hours and a focus on appointments, VEG operates as a dedicated emergency and urgent care animal hospital, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays. This means that no matter when the unexpected happens—whether it's the middle of the night or on a Sunday afternoon—you have a place to turn for immediate, professional help. The philosophy behind VEG is centered on a customer-focused model, aiming to reduce the anxiety of a pet emergency by allowing pet parents to stay with their animals throughout the entire process, from triage to treatment.

Location and Accessibility

The Santa Monica location of the Veterinary Emergency Group is at 2700 Wilshire Blvd, Santa Monica, CA 90403, USA. This prominent address places it conveniently in the heart of the city, easily accessible from major arteries and surrounding communities like Brentwood, West Los Angeles, and even Beverly Hills. The clinic’s physical design and amenities are built with accessibility and comfort in mind. The facility boasts a wheelchair accessible entrance, a dedicated wheelchair accessible parking lot, and a wheelchair accessible restroom. This focus on inclusive design ensures that all pet owners, regardless of their mobility, can navigate the clinic with ease during a stressful time. Additionally, the clinic features a gender-neutral restroom, making it a welcoming and inclusive space for all members of the LGBTQ+ community and anyone who feels more comfortable with this option. The commitment to a transgender-safe space further highlights a mission to provide a welcoming environment for every individual who walks through their doors.

Services Offered

As a specialized emergency and urgent care provider, VEG focuses on a specific set of services designed to handle critical and time-sensitive situations. They are not a primary care vet for routine check-ups but are equipped to handle a wide spectrum of emergencies. Here are some of the services they are known to provide:

  • Emergency and Urgent Pet Care: From sudden illnesses to traumatic injuries, their team is prepared for immediate triage and treatment.

  • Advanced Diagnostics: They offer on-site diagnostic testing, including digital x-rays, ultrasound, and endoscopy to quickly identify the cause of a pet’s distress.

  • Emergency Surgery: The hospital is equipped for various emergency surgical procedures, such as foreign body retrieval and other urgent interventions.

  • Care for Exotic Animals and Birds: A notable feature of VEG is their willingness and expertise in treating a wide range of animals beyond just dogs and cats, including birds and exotic pets.

  • Blood Work and Laboratory Testing: Their in-house lab allows for rapid analysis of blood panels and other tests crucial for emergency situations.

  • Immediate Triage: Every pet is seen immediately upon arrival, with no appointment necessary. A doctor assesses the situation from the moment you walk through the door.

Features / Highlights

The unique business model of VEG is what truly sets it apart from traditional veterinary practices. Several features are designed specifically to address the emotional and practical needs of pet owners during an emergency.

  • 24/7 Availability: The hospital is always open—24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year—ensuring that you never have to wait for care during a crisis.

  • Open-Concept Hospital: Unlike many clinics where you wait in a separate room, VEG has an open floor plan that allows pet parents to stay with their pets throughout the entire treatment process. This provides peace of mind and allows for direct communication with the medical team.

  • No Appointment Needed: Pet emergencies are, by nature, unplanned. VEG’s walk-in model means you can get your pet the care they need the moment the emergency happens, without the stress of trying to secure a last-minute appointment.

  • Compassionate and Empathetic Staff: Based on customer reviews, the staff is highly praised for their compassion and understanding during difficult and emotional times, even in end-of-life care.

  • Customer-Centric Approach: The focus is on making a frightening situation less stressful for both the pet and the owner. This includes everything from providing blankets for comfort to transparent communication about care and costs.

  • Payment Options: The clinic accepts a variety of modern payment methods, including credit cards, debit cards, and NFC mobile payments, making the transaction process quick and easy.

What is Worth Choosing

For a pet owner in California, particularly in the busy and densely populated Los Angeles area, the option of a dedicated emergency veterinary hospital like VEG is invaluable. The primary reason to choose VEG is its singular focus on emergency and urgent care. This specialization means the staff and facility are always prepared for the unexpected, with the necessary tools, technology, and training to handle critical situations. The 24/7 availability removes the stress of trying to find an open clinic during off-hours, providing an immediate safety net for any pet crisis.

Furthermore, the customer experience is a major selling point. The model of allowing pet parents to stay with their animals is a significant departure from traditional emergency vet protocols and can be incredibly comforting during a frightening time. This transparency fosters trust and allows you to be an active participant in your pet’s care. The glowing reviews from clients, who have experienced both the professionalism and the empathy of the staff, underscore the clinic's commitment to compassionate care, even in the most heartbreaking situations. For anyone with a beloved pet, this level of humanity is what truly matters when faced with a medical crisis. The fact that they treat exotic animals and birds also makes them a crucial resource for a wider range of pet owners in the community.
