For pet owners across Minnesota, the health and well-being of our beloved animal companions are a top priority. In Minneapolis, when unexpected health concerns arise or when you need flexible access to veterinary services, a local option aiming to provide timely care is Access Veterinary Care. This article will provide an overview of Access Veterinary Care, detailing its location, the services it aims to offer, and what local residents can expect when seeking care for their pets.
The unique challenges of pet ownership often include unpredictable health issues that require prompt attention. Access Veterinary Care positions itself as a resource for those moments, striving to offer a pathway to veterinary services that aligns with the immediate needs of both pets and their owners. Understanding the options available for veterinary care within our community is crucial for providing the best possible support for our animal family members. This overview aims to equip Minneapolis pet parents with information about this particular clinic, helping them navigate their pet care decisions with greater confidence.
It is important to acknowledge that the experience of seeking urgent care can be dynamic and varied, and clinics often manage a fluctuating patient load. Access Veterinary Care's model is designed to address the need for more immediate veterinary attention, which can be a valuable service for many pet owners in the Twin Cities area.
Access Veterinary Care is conveniently located at 6225 N 42nd Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55422, USA. This address places it within a recognizable part of Minneapolis, making it relatively accessible for residents throughout the city and surrounding suburbs. North 42nd Avenue is a well-established route, which contributes to ease of navigation for those driving to the clinic.
The clinic's location in Minneapolis enhances its accessibility for a broad segment of the local pet-owning population. For routine visits or unexpected needs, being centrally located within a developed urban area is a significant advantage, reducing travel time and potential stress for pets. Minneapolis has a comprehensive road network, and clinics typically consider parking availability for their clients. While specific public transportation routes to this exact address would require consulting current transit schedules, Minneapolis generally offers various public transport options, potentially allowing for access even without a personal vehicle. This strategic placement aims to ensure that more pet owners can reach veterinary care when their pets need it most.
Access Veterinary Care focuses on providing accessible and often prompt veterinary services, particularly catering to urgent care needs that may not constitute a full emergency but require attention sooner rather than later. While specific detailed service lists are best confirmed directly with the clinic, based on their model and typical offerings for similar facilities, you can generally expect a range of services aimed at addressing immediate pet health concerns, as well as general veterinary care. These services typically include:
- Urgent Care and Walk-in Services: Designed for conditions that are not life-threatening emergencies but require prompt medical attention, such as minor injuries, sudden lameness, vomiting, diarrhea, or allergic reactions.
- Wellness Exams: Routine check-ups to assess overall health, detect potential issues early, and maintain preventative care protocols.
- Vaccinations: Administration of necessary vaccines to protect pets against common infectious diseases, tailored to individual pet needs.
- Diagnostic Services:
- In-house Laboratory Testing: For quick results on blood work, urinalysis, and other essential screenings.
- Radiography (X-rays): To evaluate bones, internal organs, and identify foreign objects.
- Minor Injury Treatment: Addressing cuts, scrapes, minor sprains, and other non-life-threatening physical injuries.
- Management of Common Illnesses: Diagnosis and treatment for various conditions such as ear infections, skin issues, respiratory problems, and digestive upsets.
- Pain Management: Assessment and initial treatment for acute pain, such as from injuries or sudden conditions.
- Prescription Medications: Dispensing necessary medications as part of a treatment plan.
- Behavioral Consultations: Initial assessment and guidance for sudden changes in pet behavior related to health issues.
It's important to note that while they aim to provide timely care, wait times can occur, especially during busy periods, as they prioritize patients based on medical urgency. Their model focuses on being available for concerns that might otherwise lead to a longer wait at a general practice or be less critical than a dedicated emergency veterinary hospital.
Access Veterinary Care aims to provide a unique and necessary service within the Minneapolis pet care landscape, focusing on accessibility and timely attention. Based on client experiences and their operational model, key features and highlights include:
- Focus on Accessibility: Their operational model is designed to accommodate walk-ins and urgent care needs, providing an option when your regular veterinarian isn't available or for issues that can't wait for a scheduled appointment.
- Compassionate Handling of Anxious Pets: One significant highlight from customer feedback notes their exceptional ability to handle "difficult patients" or highly anxious animals. For example, a 15-year-old dog, typically averse to strangers, was "cooperative" and comfortable enough to eat treats, indicating a gentle and patient approach from the staff. This specific feedback is a strong indicator of their ability to create a less stressful environment for sensitive pets.
- Dedicated Staff: Reviews suggest staff members are "great" and caring, showing genuine affection for the animals they treat.
- Flexibility for Pet Owners: The option to submit urgent care forms and sometimes be seen on the same day offers a valuable service for those with immediate concerns.
- Commitment to Pet Comfort: The anecdote about the anxious dog eating peanut butter on his chin post-visit highlights their efforts to ensure pets feel safe and unstressed during and after their examination.
It is also important for potential clients to be aware that, like any urgent care model, there can be fluctuations in wait times. Communication about these wait times and the process is key, as managing expectations contributes significantly to the client experience.
For immediate pet health concerns, to inquire about their services, or to understand their current wait times, you can contact Access Veterinary Care directly.

Access Veterinary Care Reviews
This is my 3rd time bringing one of my dogs to Access Vet and once again it was an awesome experience. My little old man is 15 and has always been a difficult patient (doesn't like strangers at all) but they have always been so great with him and he's been a good boy both times (the word cooperative was actually used lol). After his visit today he had peanut butter on his chin and the fact that he felt comfortable enough to eat shows how great they are. He will not eat any kind of treat if he is stressed or doesn't trust you. Once again thank you for taking such amazing care of my Rosco ❤️
Jun 13, 2025 · Katie KirkhuffI am so sad about this place. I brought my cat on a Saturday morning after filling out urgent care form. The website form states if you cannot wait at home, and are worried, you can come in. I did and they told me it would be an hour/hour and half. I checked back after 2 hours. Was told another hour. Checked back. Procedures were being done to the first arrivals, might be another hour. I wondered if the nice bearded lady and curly-haired young man next to her had an issue with my asking kindly on the wait. I explained I was okay with waiting, just having the updates eases my anxiety.Answers were vague & shrugged off with a half-smile/half-smirk. After 5+ hours of waiting, I decided it was time to go. A new lady at the front was surprised I was waiting over 5 hours on-site & offered to move my kitty up to next on the list. After another 45 mins passed, I knew I had to get home. We were well into late afternoon and despite being one of the first to check-in, I knew my kitty was long enough in her carrier and had another kitten at home to tend to. I felt if they weren’t concerned about her “symptoms” maybe I should not be, too. I was perfectly fine with this assessment and did not mind I’d spent my day waiting. When my kitty’s condition persisted through the next 2 days while they were closed, I thought it best to bring her in when they reopened for the week. I, again, submitted the form at 8am. A call came through at 8:30 asking if I could be there at 9. Because I needed to find my hiding cat and call a car (no time for the bus with little notice) we agreed on 9:15-9:30. I arrived at 9:17, was taken to the back room. I expressed concern with wait times in the room, I’d rather wait in the lobby due to some anxiety and claustrophobic tendencies. We agreed the door could remain open to allow air flow etc., because it wouldn’t be long. Someone came in to review everything I’d already written and wanted to take my cat to another room for examining “because that’s where the supplies are.”I asked to go with, not wanting to leave my cat and told he’d have to ”ask the doctor,” & will be right back. An hour+ passed, keeping me in this small, hot room. Not once did anyone come to check in or offer updates to the doctor’s visit. I used the restroom once, went outside for air, and, mind you, all other rooms I passed were empty, possibly one “patient” next to me. I was told there were multiple doctors on site, but no one was in sight.I began to wonder why this visit was failing for a second time. My gut telling me, maybe my cat is not in good hands here. I said to myself, I will give it 30 more minutes (actually 37 minutes) and if no one said a word to me, I will take that as my sign to get out of here. Once this happened, and a full hour and 45 minutes later, I left for the bus stop. (Still passing empty rooms and no one in waiting room.) Shortly after, multiple calls and text came through. I thought, all too concerned now, but nothing while I was in the building, and well aware of my limitations, ones they were unconcerned for (and maybe exploiting or maliciously exasperating) now, during that time. I was unable to take a call due to the amount of anxiety I’d incurred over prolonged and unexplained inaction. Now, as a super blow, Access Veterinary is attempting to charge me $75 for an exam that was NEVER performed!!! What on earth??!! I am disputing the charge, adding more time and energy to this. Upon reading more reviews, and others subsequent nightmares endured here, I am positive I saved my cat by listening to my gut and leaving this place. I am not even mad they ignored me, left me waiting those 2 days, and now only thanking God for the protection… a care facility mistreating a human client like this?? I hate to think it, but I wonder what happens with the animals… I am again so sad, and sorry, to even have to share this all publicly but charging me after all I went through? That’s just plain mean spirited.
Jul 22, 2025 · Tiffany TFunny this place is considered a sliding scale fee. Every time I've come here they've wasted money and offered 0 solutions. The only time they ever found the problem was when I demanded they do a full panel blood work on my cat despite them telling me it was a waste of money (after actually wasting money on xrays that they later claimed they couldn't find but I suspect they never even did). Anyway that blood work ended up showing diabetes. And the vet i went to after that said any vet would have known lameness is a symptom of diabetes. Also the vet I have now is cheaper despite not being sliding scale fee. Because he doesn't rip people off either through greed or ignorance in getting unnecessary procedurers.Terrible place. It doesn't matter if they're cheap if theyre also horrible at their job.
Jul 24, 2025 · Megan MayI am very grateful for Access Vet. My cat, Cris, took a leap off of our 6th floor balcony, and after an overnight stay at BluePearl emergency (who was also very caring of Cris) we had to find a place to get an amputation and some teeth extracted. After calling around for hours, Access was the only place that would take him in right away, nearly every other place was telling me I would have to wait a month. We got him in for his consultation, and when we went to schedule to surgery they were able to get him in that same day. It was such a relief to not have to bring him back home with his bum leg. Dr. Angelica Dimock called before amputation to let me know that she could even extract the two broken teeth, so we didn't have to make another trip and put him under again.Staff kept me informed the entire time, and I felt incredibly comfortable leaving Cris in their care. It's such a blessing; they also made it an affordable experience compared to what other vets wanted to charge for the amputation. Again, I am forever grateful for the staff at Access vet. He may not be whole, but I have the best parts of him left. Having more time with him is all I can ask for.
May 09, 2025 · Haley TrauflerWent in for urgent care services for my cat and they got us in right away, the private room they brought me to was nice (wizard of oz themed), and Dr Smith was very professional and compassionate. Provided realistic answers and expectations as well as keeping me in the loop every few hours. Thank you so very much to you and your staff for your care during a scary time
