The Petco store in Sewell, NJ, is located at 141 Tuckahoe Rd #130, Sewell, NJ 08080, USA. This address places it within a commercial area, likely a shopping center or plaza, which is typical for larger retail chains. Tuckahoe Road is a significant local thoroughfare, providing relatively straightforward access for residents within Sewell and from surrounding communities in Gloucester County, New Jersey.
The accessibility of the location is a key factor for local shoppers. Being on a well-trafficked road often means good visibility and ease of navigation for drivers. Parking is typically available and convenient in a shopping center setting, allowing customers to easily transport pet supplies to their vehicles. For New Jersey residents in towns such as Glassboro, Mantua, or Washington Township, the Petco in Sewell should be a manageable drive for their pet-related errands.
While the specific characteristics of the shopping center itself are not detailed, the general location implies that the store is part of a larger retail hub, which can be convenient for combining a trip to the pet store with other shopping needs. The provided customer reviews offer very strong and specific insights into the perceived features and highlights (or lack thereof) of the Petco in Sewell, NJ. These points are crucial for local users to consider:
- Concerns Regarding Animal Welfare and Habitat Conditions: This is a significant and recurring highlight in the reviews, but in a negative context. Customers reported "horrible" treatment of animals, with "dirty" fish tanks, "no light," and multiple instances of "masses of dead fish stuck in the filter intake." Birds were also noted as "separated from each other" and having "little space to roam," leading to concerns about isolation. This indicates a perceived failure to meet basic animal care standards in the live animal departments.
- Lack of Staff Alarm Regarding Animal Welfare Issues: One customer explicitly mentioned alerting an employee to a "dead fish on the floor," and the employee "seemed less than alarmed by it." This suggests a potential lack of urgency or proper training in addressing animal welfare concerns by some staff members.
- Poor Store Maintenance and Cleanliness: The presence of a "large puddle of water on the floor near the tanks with a small caution sign" and a general impression that "nobody cares" about the store's upkeep further contributes to a negative perception of the environment and operational standards.
- High Pricing Concerns for Pets: A reviewer found the prices for cats to be "horrible," specifically noting that kittens were more expensive ($75) than adult cats ($25) or special needs cats, which led them to question if the animals were "treated right" based on perceived pricing disparities. This suggests that some pet prices are viewed as "astronomical."
- Discouraging Live Pet Purchases: Directly stemming from the animal welfare and pricing concerns, one reviewer explicitly stated, "If you plan on buying or getting a pet from here I suggest you don't." This is a powerful negative recommendation regarding the live animal section.
- Potential for Disappointment: The recurring negative experiences, including repeat visits yielding worse conditions ("today was worse" after a previous "dead fish on the floor incident"), indicate a consistent pattern of concern for some customers rather than isolated incidents.
While Petco as a brand has stated commitments to animal welfare, the specific reviews for the Sewell location present a concerning picture that local customers should be fully aware of.

For locals in Sewell, New Jersey, and the surrounding communities, choosing a pet store involves a balance of convenience, product availability, and, crucially, the welfare of the animals housed within. Petco at 141 Tuckahoe Rd #130 offers a wide array of pet supplies and services, consistent with a national chain, providing a convenient option for many daily pet needs.
However, the provided customer reviews reveal significant concerns that local residents should carefully consider. The repeated reports of poor animal welfare conditions, specifically in the fish and bird departments (dirty tanks, dead fish, isolated birds), alongside observations of perceived staff indifference and general store disarray, are serious issues. Furthermore, the pricing structure for live animals has been a point of contention for at least one customer. These direct experiences from fellow New Jersey residents suggest a potential discrepancy between corporate standards and local execution at this particular location.
While Petco aims to be a comprehensive resource for pet owners, the suitability of this specific Sewell location for locals will heavily depend on individual priorities. Those primarily seeking common pet supplies or convenient grooming services might find it adequate. However, for pet owners deeply concerned about the in-store welfare of live animals, the cleanliness of animal habitats, or consistent staff attentiveness, the provided feedback suggests that alternative options in the New Jersey area might warrant exploration. Ultimately, an informed decision based on these community insights is recommended for all local pet parents.

Petco Reviews
I am SEVERELY disappointed. I don't think I ever wrote this bad of a review on a pet store before. When I walked in, me and my best friend went to see the cats. The prices for those cats were horrible. How come kittens are more expensive while adults and special needs aren't? 75 for kittens while adults we're 25. Makes me think they don't treat them right. Don't get me started on the fish. The fish tanks were dirty, had no light, and I wasn't even sure if they were alive. I was mortified. No pet store should be treating their animals like this. The birds were separated from each other and had little space to roam. They are isolated. I am so disappointed in this store. They're prices are astronomical. If you plan on buying or getting a pet from here I suggest you don't.
Apr 03, 2025 · SunnyI was here several months ago and there was a dead fish on the floor. I was with my young kids and it wasn’t the “death” talk I wanted to have with them. The employee I alerted seemed less than alarmed by it.I made my first trip back since the dead fish on the floor incident assuming that first experience was a fluke…but today was worse. There were several tanks with masses of dead fish stuck in the filter intake. This is poor treatment of living things, gross to look at and created a toxic environment for the lucky fish who are swimming with their decomposing friends. Who would want to introduce any fish from those dirty tanks into their own. There was also a large puddle of water on the floor near the tanks with a small caution sign. It just looks like nobody cares. That’s fine if it’s a clothing store but please take care of animals.
Jan 24, 2025 · KiraEdit: HAVE NOT HEAR FROM PETCO ON ACTIONTook our new pup to this store for her first grooming appointment. It all seemingly went well until a few days later our dog developed hot spots all over her back which took many visits to the vet because it just kept getting worse. It was worse than a typical hotspot so she was on many medications and antibiotics just to manage it. She had to be isolated and had to wear a cone for 2 months. It was a grueling 8 weeks of healing and her wounds finally closed up right on time for her scheduled grooming appointment next week which I will have to cancel because we are so traumatized. The vet said she may not grow hair in the scarred areas since it was so bad and affected her hair follicles 😭 the poor baby is literally scarred for life. She got bacterial infection from possibly the tools used or an infected shampoo bottle. I would avoid this place at all cost!!!! Your poor pup will pay for their negligence for life. we are so sad for her.
Dec 18, 2024 · Vina CaneteHad what I needed for my fish, prices were a bit higher in store but they agreed to price match so that's a win. Also they have some cute cats and ferrits to be seen! I recommend
Apr 30, 2025 · Ultra Gamer ZakI was completely ignored by THREE employees, my fish died, and ALL tanks had several dead fish!I went in to pick up a couple aquatic pets and plant. I was completely ignored by THREE employees. Not only ignored but they got their own purchases in front of me. Employee 1 helped another guest, looked at me and walked away. Employee 1 returned with two more employees, saying they needed fish and crickets. There was another customer near me as well so I thought they were helping us both. Instead, the 3rd employee got crickets for employee 2, and employee 1 asked him to get fish. He responded with "I have other stuff to do then to get you fish" and walked away. One of the remaining employees laughed, said they need to go clock out soon, and the other said they were getting their fish then clocking out.I stood there while this employee got their own fish all packed up. Then they looked as me and asked if I "finally figured out what i wanted". Which obviously i did. She got me my items and took off without asking any of the other people in the area if they needed help or offer to get someone for them. I had to tell the employee at check out that people needed help.Extremely RUDE to have a customer who spent a good bit of money stand and watch employees get their own purchases which I'm assuming an employee discount is used. Two of the fish I purchased passed which I know is not due to my water. It's a quarantine tanks with tested water and no other fish have passed when placed in there.I called to see if I could get replacement fish from a closer store which the employee on the phone said I could and hung up before I could even say thank you.Overall, disgusting tanks, dead and sick fish, and HORRIBLE customer service!
