The Paramus area is a hub of commercial activity, and Banfield's location within it adds to its convenience, allowing pet care to be integrated seamlessly into daily errands.
Banfield Pet Hospital in Paramus provides a comprehensive range of veterinary services, with a strong focus on preventive care to ensure the long-term health and well-being of your pets. They offer individualized treatment plans tailored to your pet's specific needs.
- Preventive and Wellness Care: This is a cornerstone of Banfield's approach, often structured through their Optimum Wellness Plans®. Services include routine comprehensive physical exams to assess major body systems, vaccinations (including rabies, feline leukemia, parvovirus, and others based on lifestyle), and robust parasite control programs for both internal and external parasites. Nutritional advice is also provided to support a balanced diet for all life stages.
- Diagnostic Services: To accurately diagnose illnesses and injuries, the hospital utilizes various diagnostic methods. This includes in-house laboratory diagnostics for same-day results on blood work, urinalysis, and fecal exams. They also employ digital radiography (X-rays) to examine internal body systems like cardiopulmonary, gastrointestinal, and reproductive systems, and dental digital X-rays to assess issues below the gum line.
- General Dentistry: Professional dental cleanings are offered to support oral health, crucial for a pet's overall well-being. Many locations also perform dental extractions and other oral surgery procedures, emphasizing preventive dental care to avoid more serious issues.
- General Surgery: In addition to routine spay and neuter procedures, the hospital may offer soft tissue surgeries. All surgeries are performed with careful consideration for anesthesia protocols and patient monitoring.
- Microchipping: As a vital service for pet identification, microchipping helps significantly increase the chances of reuniting lost pets with their families.
- Pharmacy Options: An on-site pharmacy is available for convenient access to prescribed medications, ensuring your pet's treatment can begin promptly.
- Behavior Evaluation: Services include help in decoding if a pet's behavior is medically related, along with advice and resources to support positive behavior.

- End-of-Life Services: Compassionate care and support for pets and their families during difficult times, including euthanasia services.
Banfield Pet Hospital in Paramus, NJ, while part of a larger chain, has specific features and highlights that resonate with its local client base, though it also presents certain challenges.
- Exceptional Compassion in Difficult Times: A significant highlight is the profound compassion shown by the staff, particularly during end-of-life care. The Massey Family's review powerfully illustrates how the team, including doctors and staff, treated their senior dog "with such respect" through cancer, doing "everything possible to make her comfortable till her last minute," and showing "unbelievable" compassion to the family. This level of empathy in challenging moments is highly valued.
- Dedication to Pet Comfort: The staff's commitment to treating pets "like family" is a recurring theme, suggesting a genuinely caring approach that makes pets, even pit bulls (as mentioned in a review), feel respected and comfortable.
- Focus on Preventive Care with Wellness Plans: Banfield is well-known for its Optimum Wellness Plans®, which offer bundled services for preventive care at a predictable monthly cost. These plans can be a beneficial feature for pet owners looking to budget for routine exams, vaccinations, and some diagnostic tests.
- Comprehensive Service Offerings: The hospital provides a broad range of general veterinary services, from routine check-ups and vaccinations to dental care and general surgery, making it a convenient one-stop shop for many pet health needs.
However, it is important for prospective clients to be aware of certain aspects highlighted in other reviews, which include:
- Potential for Delays and Communication Issues: One client's experience with a delayed dental cleaning appointment and lack of communication about the delay, resulting in their dog being caged for many hours without updates, points to occasional operational challenges. This suggests that while service quality can be high, clients may sometimes face issues with wait times and proactive communication regarding their pet's status.
- Pressure for "Add-ons": The mention of "extra add ons they try to make you pay for which are sometimes unnecessary" suggests that clients might sometimes feel pressured to purchase additional services or products beyond what they initially anticipated, which could impact the overall perceived value.
- On-Hold Wait Times: Acknowledged "annoying" wait times on hold for phone calls indicate that reaching the hospital for inquiries or appointments can sometimes be a test of patience.

We sadly had to put our Girl Rosetta down today, this place has been through it with us through thick and thin and always treating our pitty with such respect. Ever since our girl was diagnosed with cancer they did everything possible to make her comfortable till her last minute. The compassion they showed us was unbelievable. The staff is just amazing and compassionate. I know the wait on hold is annoying and sometimes they over book but they are worth the wait. Thank you, The Massey Family
Jun 18, 2025 · Renee RodriguezI took a day off from work to bring my dog for an 8:00am Dental cleaning appointment and was told she would be ready for pick by 1:00 or 2:00pm the latest…… I did not hear anything from them all day and decided to swing by after the gym at 2:00pm which was near by, to check the status of my dog…. I was told that since I dropped off my dog at 8:00am that nothing was done because the Dr. was running behind/late …… I was supper upset because my dog who is never caged had to endure 6 long hours of being caged without food, snack or water and did not recieve any communication from their office to let us what was going on. It took them an additional 25 mins to bring my dog out after I told them I want leave, which made supper suspicious of why it was taking so long to bring my dog from the back….. I normally have decent service from them but this was a waste of day for me and they need to be more considerate of peoples time because people have to work to be able to afford all those extra add ons they try to make you pay for which are sometimes unnecessary.

I'm taking the time to write this review to highlight two amazing people I encountered today, 4/5/2025, at Banfield Pet Hospital in Paramus. DR. SEO and his assistant HEATHER were SIMPLY WONDERFUL! I've been bringing my Labrador, Bruno to Banfield for many years, and never have my pet and I had such a wonderful experience. Dr. Seo was incredibly thorough and genuine, and he had so much patience answering all my concerns. My pet was so much happier than any other time I've brought him to Banfield for regular visits. I encourage you to keep such stellar staff. Banfield needs more people like Dr. Seo and Heather. Heather was so friendly and warm, and you can tell from her personality that she truly cares. Apr 05, 2025 · Nelson D'CostaThis staff is very unorganized and incompetent. The veterinarian is very rude and inconsiderate. I made an appointment a month ago and drove 25 minutes to drop my kitten off and they told me I had to wait an hour and didn’t give an explanation. If you needed me to wait an hour why didn’t you call to reschedule? This is a HUGE waste of time and if I could give zero stars I would. I do not recommend this garbage.
