Banfield Pet Hospital Introduce
For pet owners across California, particularly in the Inland Empire region, navigating the world of veterinary care can present a variety of options, from small, family-owned clinics to larger, corporate chains. Banfield Pet Hospital, located in Upland, is a well-known name in the latter category. As a large network of veterinary hospitals, Banfield provides a standardized model of care that is often integrated within PetSmart stores, offering a convenient and accessible option for many. This article is designed to give local California residents a factual and balanced overview of the Banfield Pet Hospital in Upland, helping you understand its services, operational model, and what makes it a different kind of vet experience.
The Banfield model is built on providing a wide range of services, often with a focus on preventative care through their Opti-Vet Wellness Plans. This approach is designed to make routine visits and care more predictable and affordable for pet owners. However, as with any corporate entity, the experience can vary. This guide will delve into the specifics of the Upland location, exploring its physical attributes, the services offered, and key highlights based on direct customer feedback. By examining both the positive and critical reviews, we aim to provide a comprehensive picture to help you make an informed decision for your beloved pet.
The Banfield Pet Hospital is located at 1935 N Campus Ave, Upland, CA 91784, USA. This address places it within a PetSmart store, a common characteristic of Banfield's business model. This co-location provides a high degree of convenience, as pet owners can often combine a veterinary visit with their regular pet supply shopping. The location is easily accessible from major roads in the Upland area, with a large, dedicated parking lot shared with the PetSmart store.
The accessibility is a key component of Banfield’s appeal. For many Californians, the ability to go to a single location for grooming, supplies, and medical care is a significant time-saver. However, one customer review noted that the hospital's signage could be clearer, suggesting that the hospital sign should be right below the PetSmart sign to avoid confusion, as it can sometimes look like a separate building. Despite this minor point, the location is generally considered easy to find and the environment is described as "up to par with cleanliness" and having a "good vibe."
Banfield Pet Hospital offers a variety of services, often structured around their Wellness Plans which are designed to cover the cost of routine and preventative care over the course of a year.
- Wellness Exams: Comprehensive check-ups, which are often the foundation of the wellness plans, to monitor a pet’s overall health.
- Vaccinations: All core vaccinations for dogs and cats, as well as optional vaccines based on a pet's lifestyle.
- Preventative Care: Includes services like parasite control and microchipping.
- Dental Care: From routine cleanings to extractions, dental services are a key part of their offerings.
- Surgical Procedures: They perform a range of routine surgeries, including spaying and neutering.
- Diagnostic Services: In-house and send-out lab work, as well as basic imaging services.
- Health Assessments: Providing pet owners with an assessment of their pet’s current health status and recommendations for care.
A key aspect of their model is the emphasis on wellness plans, which bundle services into a monthly fee, a system that can be appealing for predictable budgeting of pet healthcare costs.
Customer reviews provide a mixed but insightful look into the features and highlights of the Upland Banfield Pet Hospital.
- Strong Client/Patient Communication: One positive review highlights a great experience where the vet explained "assessment findings, differential diagnosis, and treatment plan" in "layman's terms," demonstrating excellent client communication skills.
- Compassionate and Kind Staff: Another positive review praises the technicians and nurses for being "REALLY great," "nice and always smiling," and answering questions effectively, creating a welcoming and reassuring environment for pet owners.
- Efficient Service Delivery: The positive review notes an experience where the wait time was reasonable and the staff provided "efficient and kind" discharge instructions, indicating a well-organized process.
- Challenges with Doctor Continuity: A major criticism from a negative review is the lack of doctor consistency. The customer stated that their cat "never saw the same doctor twice" over five visits, which can hinder the building of a long-term, trusting relationship with a single veterinarian.
- Sales-Oriented Model: The same critical review claimed that the doctors are "incompetent" and "only want to sell tests and medicines," suggesting a sales-driven approach rather than a purely medical one.
- Overwhelmed Staff: One review observed that the front desk tech was "working hard to answer the phone calls, have the owner's pet checked in, answer their questions, explain the treatment plan and pricing, and among other things," suggesting that the staff may be stretched thin, which could lead to service inconsistencies.
These highlights show a clear dichotomy in customer experiences, with some praising the compassionate and clear communication, while others criticize the high turnover of staff and perceived sales pressure.

For California pet owners, especially in the Upland area, what makes Banfield Pet Hospital a consideration is its convenience and its unique wellness plan model. For those who value predictable budgeting and easy access to routine preventative care, a wellness plan can be a great option. The positive reviews highlight that when the system works, the staff can be very kind, communicative, and efficient, providing a great experience for the pet and owner. However, it is also important to be aware of the potential drawbacks, as mentioned in the negative reviews. The lack of continuity with a single doctor can be a significant concern for pet owners who prefer a long-term relationship with a veterinarian who knows their pet's history intimately. The perception of being sold unnecessary services is another factor to consider. Ultimately, choosing Banfield is a decision to embrace a corporate, standardized model of care. For some, this is a perfect fit, offering a practical and convenient solution for pet healthcare needs. For others, the traditional, long-term relationship with a small, private clinic may be a better choice. The Upland location, based on reviews, offers a mix of both, with some customers having very positive experiences and others facing challenges.

Banfield Pet Hospital Reviews
In one year of treatment at Banfield, my cat never saw the same doctor twice, even though I tried, in 5 visits. The doctors are incompetent and only want to sell tests and medicines, even when unnecessary or already completed.PLEASE...if you CARE for your pets, take them to real veterinarians. These people could not be hired by an existing vet. One old man, an old lady who didn't speak English. Girls just out of vet school with no other experience. DO NOT WASTE YOUR PET'S HEALTH or YOUR MONEY!NO STARS.
August 26 · Dwight FryBanfield hospital is usually located inside petsmart. It would be nice to have the hospital sign right below petsmart, not right next to the building where it seems like to be a different building by itself. Otherwise, the location/environment is up to par with cleanliness and has a good vibe too.I had a scheduled appointment for my cat and was seen reasonably in decent time. The technician/front desk person was working hard to answer the phone calls, have the owner's pet checked in, answer their questions, explain the treatment plan and pricing, and among other things. It would be nice to have the establishment have two techs working the front desk as to not overwhelm him/her with all that's happening up front. When I checked in my pet. The techs and nurses were REALLY great. They answered my questions, were nice and always smiling. After an estimate of 5-10 mins, the vet/doctor came out and explained to me her assessment findings, differential diagnosis, and treatment plan. She explained it in layman's terms which is always appreciated and had great patient/client communication skills. After that, they did what they do best and gave me an estimated time when they'd call back to pick up my pet. From there, the usual discharge instructions were given in an efficient and kind manner.Overall, it was a great experience.
January 28 · David Keith CaneteBanfield was very good to our dogs. Check in was fast as was check out. Having there insurance saved us over a thousand dollars. It is really worth having.
June 25 · Scott LarsonThey have been great to my dogs and were very good with my large, sweet, but stranger reactive guardian dog when it came time for her to get fixed. I appreciate the staff’s understanding of the animals they treat and especially their patience. A picture of the girls in their “Banfield” bandannas in appreciation ❤️
July 17 · Jennifer BelleroseMy sweet Giacomo “Mo” Jeter has always received excellent care from my Banfield in The Colonies in Upland. The doctors are well trained in all aspects of what care he needs and always listen to my concerns and will answer all questions.. The check-in process is efficient, the support staff are ALL kind, compassionate and knowledgable and very gentle with my sweet boy.. They helped me through the passing of my sweet Jeterbug so when I finally go a new puppy I NEVER hesitated to bring him to the same location. When I bring my sweet Mo in for a visit they are all very attentive to him and me. I have been with this location for years.I adamantly give them ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
