Johnstown Road is a notable thoroughfare, facilitating relatively easy navigation for visitors. Its proximity to key transportation routes ensures that pet owners from various parts of Columbus can reach the facility without undue difficulty. While one review mentions potential issues with ramp closures (e.g., near S High and 270), the general accessibility of the Johnstown Road location remains a significant benefit. The organization often operates as a walk-in clinic for certain services like their monthly vaccine clinics, making it crucial for the location to be easily found and reached. This commitment to being physically accessible underscores Columbus Dog Connection's dedication to serving a broad spectrum of pet owners, ensuring that essential and affordable veterinary care, along with adoption resources, are within reach for the Ohio community.
Columbus Dog Connection offers a vital range of low-cost, high-quality veterinary services, primarily focused on addressing pet overpopulation and promoting general pet health. Their key services include:
- Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic: This is a cornerstone of their mission. They provide affordable, high-quality spay and neuter surgeries for both dogs and cats. This includes pre- and post-surgery care guidelines to ensure a smooth recovery. They have performed nearly 23,000 surgeries, significantly impacting pet overpopulation and reducing euthanasia rates in shelters across Ohio.
- Monthly Low-Cost Vaccine Clinic: Held on the first Saturday of each month from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at their Johnstown Road facility, this clinic offers affordable vaccinations. It operates on a walk-in, first-come, first-served basis, providing crucial preventive care. Pets are generally required to be spayed/neutered to attend, though puppies under 12 weeks not yet altered can receive first vaccines with a requirement for spay/neuter before boosters.
- Heartworm Tests: Offered during their vaccine clinics, these essential tests help monitor and prevent heartworm disease in dogs.
- Dental Extractions: As highlighted in a customer review, they perform dental extractions, indicating a capacity for some surgical procedures beyond just spay/neuter, particularly for maintaining oral health.
- Dog/Cat Rescue and Adoption Program: Columbus Dog Connection operates as a 501(c)(3) limited-admission rescue. They rescue dogs and cats from abandonment/abuse situations and assist animal control/humane societies by taking in animals scheduled for euthanasia. All adopted animals, including puppies as young as 8 weeks, are spayed/neutered before leaving their care.
- Foster Program: They rely on a network of dedicated foster families to provide temporary homes for animals awaiting adoption, which is crucial for the well-being of rescued pets.
- Pet Food & Supplies Pantry: While not a direct veterinary service, they collect and distribute pet food and supplies, particularly sharing with other rescues and shelters throughout Ohio, underscoring their comprehensive approach to animal welfare.
- Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic ("The Andy"): Beyond their Columbus facility, they operate a mobile spay/neuter truck that travels to rural counties across Ohio to provide services where they are most needed, extending their impact.
- Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) Program: They support cat colony caretakers by providing spay/neuter services and resources for feral cats.
Columbus Dog Connection distinguishes itself with several key features and highlights that make it invaluable to the Ohio community:
- Cost-Saving & Affordable Services: Repeatedly emphasized by customers, their "cost saving" services make essential pet care accessible to a broader population. Columbus Dog Connection Reviews
I've been taking both of my Cats to it for the past 2 years . It's cost saving and the experience is very pleasant. There's been some wait times but it's understandable as it's a walk in clinic and things can get pretty busy . Besides that great staff , super friendly and my cats haven't had any side effects on any vaccine or spaying procedure. Highlighted recommended
Jun 08, 2025 · Celine SankaryFor years I've brought my dog for her annual vaccines and heartworm tests, grateful that they were there. Now we've adopted from them and we couldn't be more pleased with our new doggo. They're super with the clinic but they're really stellar about how they care for their fosters and the adoption process.Wonderful experience.
Nov 25, 2023 · John and Crystal MartinYeah we are clearly not good cat parents. And bravo to them to take such a strong stand against declaring. The kittens will find a clearly superior home
Feb 28, 2025 · Sheri Cotterman-HartThe entire process is 5 stars! I have 2 small dogs. It can be pricy when it comes to their annual vaccinations. Columbus Dog Connection is a reasonable rate without compromising the service. You pull into the parking lot and your greeted with directions and to stay in your car until someone comes to get your pups info. You then can kinda chill in your car or let your pup out to walk or potty and keep and eye out for your number to be posted. You stay with your dog the entire time which is comforting for them. Once your finished you can exit the building and pick up donated items like dog food, snacks, toys, clothes and bedding. The clinic is the 1st Saturday of the month.
Nov 11, 2023 · Shellie ClarkI have a lot of pets and have been to many places for spay/neuter and this place has by far been my best experience. There are usually super crowded check in rooms and ambiguous wait times for pick up. They picked uour pet up/dropped your pet back off straight to the vehicle. They were very nice and informative. I would recommend them for sure.
