Choosing a veterinary care provider is a deeply personal decision, and for many in Phoenix, Deer Creek Animal Hospital & Pet Resort has become a trusted partner. The positive experiences shared by many clients highlight a few key reasons why they are a preferred choice. One reviewer praised Dr. Balsino's expertise and recommended steroid treatment for their 13-year-old dog, which significantly prolonged the pet's quality of life. The owner noted their dog was able to get up and walk again, a result they described as a lifesaver. This story highlights the clinic's ability to provide effective, life-prolonging treatments that go beyond standard procedures, demonstrating a deep commitment to the well-being of their patients.
The facility’s comprehensive nature is also a huge draw. Being able to access an animal hospital, a boarding kennel, a grooming service, and a training center all at one location simplifies pet care significantly. This is especially beneficial for busy pet owners who want to streamline their pet’s health and wellness routines. The availability of services for exotic animals is another unique benefit, catering to a wider range of pet owners in the community.
While some reviews mention challenges, such as communication issues or perceptions of unequal treatment between different types of pets, it's clear that many clients have had positive and impactful experiences. The long-term relationships forged between the clinic and pet owners, as seen in the decade-long relationship with a cat owner who received care for a hyperactive thyroid and arthritis, speak to the consistent and ongoing medical support provided. When making a choice, it’s important to consider both the extensive range of services and the positive outcomes experienced by many who have entrusted their pets to the care of Deer Creek Animal Hospital & Pet Resort. Their commitment to offering a wide array of services and providing compassionate care for a diverse patient base makes them a strong contender for anyone seeking a veterinary partner in the Phoenix area.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Friendly and very knowledgeable service. I thought my 13-yr old large dog was ready to be put down, because he couldn’t get up or walk without falling even if he had assistance. But mentally I could see he wanted to live; He just didn’t understand why his legs didn’t work anymore.Dr. Balsino’s recommendation to try steroids was a lifesaver. Even on a very low dose, my big fella can now get up and walk and even jog, without any assistance. His good quality of life seems prolonged for probably a year and maybe more. Every extra day with him is a blessing!
August 09 · Bill VodenI took my cat Lynx to Deer Creek Animal Hospital for almost a decade. They were helpful in treating her hyperactive thyroid for the last five years. They also gave her a monthly arthritis injections for the past year or two, and the occasional grooming/trimming of nails when PetSmart refused to do anything. So why the one star? Long read ahead. This past week, I had to take my cat to VetMed, a nearby ER vet, because of an emergency involving her not eating/drinking and losing weight rapidly. She spent hours there getting re-hydrated and getting tested to find out what was wrong. They suspected her thyroid and helped me get some medicine to stimulate her appetite and encourage her to eat/drink. Records went to Deer Creek that same day.Wednesday of this past week, I called Deer Creek because I wanted to bring Lynx in to talk about long-term care. They refused to make an appointment for her that day, and said the nearest they could do was next day. But later that same day, I took her back to VetMed because she was, again, not eating or drinking and slowing down. This time they did an ultrasound as part of their tests, and found it was Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), with possible Lymphoma. It had been going on for years; her colon had shrank by 40% and she was in constant pain. This was also forwarded to Deer Creek, and I called and asked them to have a vet call me to talk about this more, to which the receptionist agreed they would call the next day.No call on Thursday. I called, and got voicemail. No call on Friday. I called and was on hold for fifteen minutes. Then I was told the vet refused to speak to me until Lynx came in for physical exams and blood tests. They wanted me to drag in my 20 year-old cat for yet another vet visit, the third in less than a week, with more blood draws and exams, and flat-out refused to address the underlying problems or even hear me out on my concerns.I set up an appointment with a different vet, the Four Legged Friends. But it wasn't meant to be. Lynx had to be taken in to VetMed this past Monday, and this time it was too much to treat. She was put to sleep, in my arms from start to finish, as she had been in my arms for countless hours over the past twenty years.Deer Creek Animal Hospital didn't care about my cat. They didn't run what is apparently a very basic diagnostic for the problems my cat had been having that I had been telling them about for years involving her digestion. Said it was normal. Wish I had known this test was an option.I doubt they could have done much during the last week of Lynx's life, but I -do- know that they should have done this test in the years leading up to her eventual decline. If they had cared to, Lynx might still be alive today. The simple fact of the matter is, if Lynx were a dog they would have caught this. They treat their dogs like royalty. They give them private exam rooms, offer their owners water, talk with them as long as the owner wants to. Even let the dogs hang out in the front office and pee everywhere they like. That damn office always smells like dog pee. As far as I can tell, they do everything right by their dogs.My cat? Exam rooms rarely, while their dogs barked and brayed and scared her. Never offered water or even a kind word. Appointments usually ran late. When I would talk to a vet, it was like they didn't have the time of day for me and were humoring my questions because I was paying them. One time they even gave her monthly arthritis injection to another pet, and she had to go for a week past her recommended dosage period before they could get another. Probably gave it to a dog that just happened to come in that day and the owner wanted it. More things I wish I had realized sooner.G Reviews has a word limit, and I'm coming up on it, so here's the key takeaways: I place squarely at their feet the blame for Lynx's IBD going undiagnosed for such a long time, and their frankly appalling unequal treatment of cats. I recommend cat owners stay away, and find a vet that actually cares about felines. It's not here.
August 07 · Michael HardingLess than 1 I can't even properly relay how disappointed our family is with this Vet. We've been using their services for over a decade, 6 different dogs. We rescued a puppy and noticed some issues, twice we brought the puppy in for evaluation, costs over $1200 in the past month. She was having some issues and we contact them for help, their only response was we will email you her records go to another urgent care. When we called back to inquire and understand why they couldn't assist we were hung up on, and when we called back advised they would not be able to assist us.DO NOT USE THIS VET,Even if you had a good experience in the pastTHE OFFICE HAS CHANGED DO NOT GO HERE
April 26 · Brian SevchikHorrible experience. Went to an appointment to establish care, update vaccines and have dog's eyes checked. Requested records to be transferred from previous vet. When I entered for appointment the records hadn't been transferred which could have been brought up to me prior to the appointment so i could helped make that happen. The main issue though, was how rude and condescending the vet was throughout the visit. She took no time to build any rapport with me or my dog with any history and immediately labeled him as aggressive when a minute of discussion and friendlier introduction could have made both of us comfortable. Her tone throughout the visit was condescending and she seemed to take smug pleasure in pointing out whatever I might have done wrong. Her exam on the dog was poor which I expressed. She left the room laughing at me mockingly. I thereafter decided I didn't even want the vaccination because I didn't want any more interaction with such a person and ended the visit. I'm disgusted I even paid $66 to see such a negative individual who has no people skills and has poor animal handling skills. I would never trust such a place with animals.
April 08 · Marissa MendozaYou never see the same doctor twice. They don’t call you when results are in. You have to chase them. They never call in prescriptions when they say they’re going to. And all they do is want to go you for money be aware. our dog didn’t need bloodwork. He needed surgery as you can see in the photos.
