The team's ability to make pets feel "so comfortable" that they "didn't want to leave" speaks volumes about the clinic's calming environment and gentle handling techniques. For Illinois residents, having a local veterinary clinic that combines medical thoroughness with a truly comforting and patient approach is a significant advantage when seeking care for their animal companions.

East Side Veterinary Clinic, as a comprehensive veterinary practice in a major urban center, offers a wide range of services designed to meet the diverse health needs of cats and dogs. Based on common offerings from reputable clinics and implied by client testimonials, their services would likely include:
General Wellness and Preventative Care: This forms the cornerstone of long-term pet health. Services include routine annual physical examinations, tailored vaccination protocols based on your pet's age, lifestyle, and exposure risks, and comprehensive parasite control (for fleas, ticks, heartworm, and intestinal parasites). Nutritional counseling and weight management are also integral to promoting overall well-being.
Senior Pet Care: As highlighted by a client with a 13.5-year-old Whippet, the clinic demonstrates a thoughtful approach to senior pets. This involves specialized monitoring of age-related conditions, early detection of common senior ailments, pain management strategies for conditions like arthritis, and tailored wellness plans to support quality of life in older animals.
Diagnostic Services: To aid in the accurate diagnosis of illnesses and conditions, the clinic would offer a range of diagnostic tools. This typically includes in-house laboratory testing for rapid results on blood work (complete blood count, chemistry panels to assess organ function), urinalysis, and fecal examinations. Imaging services such as digital radiography (X-rays) for examining bones and internal organs would also be available.
Medical Consultations and Treatment: For pets experiencing illness or specific symptoms, the veterinarians conduct thorough examinations to diagnose conditions and develop appropriate treatment plans. This includes prescribing medications (e.g., anti-inflammatory medicine, antibiotics for infections), managing chronic diseases, and providing ongoing care for various medical issues.
Dental Care: Oral health is a critical component of a pet's overall well-being. Comprehensive dental services typically include professional dental cleanings under anesthesia, dental X-rays to assess issues below the gumline, and extractions of diseased or damaged teeth.
Pharmacy Services: An on-site or associated pharmacy provides convenient access to necessary prescription medications, specialized diets, and parasite preventatives prescribed during your pet's visit.
Surgical Services: While not explicitly detailed in the provided review, a full-service veterinary clinic typically offers a range of surgical procedures, from routine spays and neuters to more complex soft-tissue surgeries, always performed with appropriate anesthesia and pain management.
For specific service details or to discuss your pet's individual needs, it is always recommended to contact the clinic directly.
Thorough and Thoughtful Diagnostic Approach: A significant highlight is Dr. Atsuko Konishi's meticulous approach, as praised by a client. She takes the time to review previous records, explain everything clearly, and then conducts a thorough examination before devising a "very thoughtful approach" to monitoring health. This level of detail and personalization is highly valued by pet owners, especially for complex or senior cases.
Exceptional Pet Comfort and Gentle Handling: The clinic excels at making pets feel at ease, to the point that one senior Whippet "didn't want to leave." This indicates a strong commitment to low-stress handling techniques and creating a calming environment, which is crucial for reducing anxiety in pets during veterinary visits. This focus on comfort can be particularly beneficial for anxious or older animals.
Specialized Attention for Senior Pets: The testimonial specifically mentioning care for a "Senior Dog" suggests that East Side Veterinary Clinic has expertise and a dedicated approach to the unique needs of aging animals, including ongoing health monitoring and tailored treatment plans. This is a vital service for Chicago's growing population of senior pets.
Clear Communication with Pet Owners: The ability of Dr. Konishi to "explain everything" to the pet owner highlights a commitment to clear and comprehensive communication. This ensures that pet parents are well-informed about their animal's condition, treatment options, and ongoing care plans, fostering trust and enabling informed decisions.
Central and Accessible Downtown Location: Situated in downtown Chicago, the clinic offers excellent accessibility via public transport and is convenient for residents in the city center and surrounding areas. This ease of access makes it a practical choice for urban pet owners, minimizing travel time and stress.
It is important to acknowledge that while many clients have positive experiences, one review expressed significant dissatisfaction regarding a diagnostic process and medication prescription. Prospective clients should always feel empowered to ask questions and seek clarification on treatment plans and associated costs.

What a Great place! Dr Atsuko Konishi took her time first going over previous records, explaining everything, and then examining my Precious 😛 13.5 y Whippet and only then came up with very thoughtful approach to how handle monitoring his health. But, be aware her team made Bru ( Whippet ) so comfortable, he didn’t want to leave 😛If u have a Senior Dog or want your pet to be taking care of, then do yourself a favor and get appointment at East Side Veterinary Clinic
Sep 02, 2022 · Lydia TerloThis location does not care about your fur babies. They only care about taking your money And making your dog more sick. They took advantage of our pocket book, We spend almost $400 for them to tell us theres nothing wrong with him, when there clearly is. then They gave us an anti-inflammatory medicine they knew was going to upset his stomach to sell us medicine that will aid his upset stomach, after he got sick from taking the medicine they knew was going to make him more sick to his stomach, They then offered anti inflammatory medicine that doesnt upset the stomach, If they knew they could have used medicine that didnt upset his stomach in the first place, why didnt they just start with that instead of purposely getting my dog more sick.
Mar 11, 2025 · Chelsi MasonI am extremely disappointed with my experience at this clinic yesterday. I found an abandoned dog and, after reaching out to over 50 shelters who refused to take her, I became her temporary caretaker for 31 hours while I searched for a foster home.During that time, she started bleeding from an unknown source, and since it appeared she had recently given birth, I was extremely concerned.I brought her in as a walk-in, hoping they could help, but was told they don’t accept walk-ins and couldn’t treat her because she wasn’t officially “my dog.” I was instructed to take her to an emergency clinic, but since I don’t have a car and couldn’t use Uber Pet due to the blood, I was told to put flour on the wound and walk her there myself.I am frustrated and upset by the lack of compassion or willingness to help in an emergency. The staff’s response was both dismissive and confusing—saying she wasn’t my dog to avoid treating her, yet also telling me it was my responsibility to care for her.I’ve brought in a dog before for a similar issue—one that wasn’t mine, just a dog I was temporarily caring for—and was welcomed with open arms. I was hoping for the same understanding this time, but instead I left feeling like the dog didn’t matter. This clinic missed an important opportunity to show care and empathy.

Sep 08, 2022 · Antonia BarbanenteHad our first visit this week as we are new to the area. The dr and tech took so much time going over my pets history and making sure I knew they had gone over all the records. I feel so comfortable with them as my vet for my two senior pups!
