- Routine Wellness and Preventive Care: This typically includes regular physical examinations, vaccinations tailored to your pet's needs, and preventive treatments for common parasites such as fleas, ticks, and heartworms. These foundational services are crucial for detecting potential health issues early and maintaining overall pet vitality.
- Diagnostic Services: A modern veterinary practice generally offers in-house diagnostic capabilities. These commonly include blood tests, urinalysis, and fecal examinations for rapid assessment of internal health. Imaging services like X-rays are also standard for diagnosing skeletal and soft tissue conditions.
- Surgical Procedures: Essential surgical services are a core offering, often encompassing routine procedures like spaying and neutering. As highlighted by a customer review mentioning a rabbit neutering procedure, such services are performed efficiently and with care. Other common surgeries may include mass removals and minor soft tissue repairs.
- Dental Care: Comprehensive dental health is vital for pets. This usually involves professional dental cleanings, extractions for diseased teeth, and advice on home dental hygiene to prevent periodontal disease.
- Pain Management: Managing pain, whether from an acute injury, post-surgical recovery, or chronic conditions like arthritis, is an important aspect of compassionate care, aimed at improving a pet's quality of life.
- Nutritional Counseling: Providing guidance on appropriate diets, weight management, and specific nutritional needs for various life stages or health conditions is a valuable service for pet owners.
- Emergency and Urgent Care Consultations: While the ability to get immediate appointments can vary, veterinary clinics generally strive to accommodate urgent situations. It's always best to call ahead for severe cases.
- Microchipping: This simple yet effective procedure helps ensure lost pets can be identified and reunited with their families, offering invaluable peace of mind.
- Client Education: A professional veterinary team often takes the time to educate pet owners on various aspects of pet care, empowering them to make informed decisions for their animal's health.
Eastern Shore Animal Hospital, under the guidance of Dr. Cynthia J. Johnson-Larson, DVM, boasts several features and highlights that are particularly noteworthy for pet owners in Virginia. While one review points to a potential challenge in appointment availability for urgent, end-of-life care, other feedback highlights significant strengths of the practice.
- Excellent Customer Service and Helpful Staff: A strong point frequently mentioned by satisfied clients is the exceptional customer service provided by the team. Reviewers praise the "wonderful staff who are very helpful and efficient," indicating a professional and supportive environment for pet owners. This dedication to client satisfaction contributes significantly to a positive overall experience.
- Reasonable and Transparent Pricing: For many pet owners, the cost of veterinary care is a major consideration. Eastern Shore Animal Hospital is commended for its "very reasonable pricing," making essential pet healthcare more accessible without compromising on the quality of service. This affordability is a significant advantage for families managing their pet care budgets.
- Efficient Processes: The hospital is recognized for its efficiency, as evidenced by the smooth and "very efficient process" described for a rabbit neutering procedure. This suggests that the clinic is well-organized, valuing both the pet's well-being and the owner's time, aiming to make visits as streamlined as possible.
- Specialized Care for Various Animals: The successful rabbit neutering mentioned in a review indicates the hospital's capability and comfort in handling a variety of animal species, extending beyond just cats and dogs. This breadth of care can be a major benefit for owners with diverse pet families.
- Trustworthiness for Routine and Planned Procedures: For planned veterinary needs, such as routine check-ups, vaccinations, and non-emergency surgeries like spaying/neutering, the hospital demonstrates competence and reliability. The fact that a client drove "all the way up from VB (Virginia Beach) just for their care" for a specific procedure speaks volumes about the trust and value placed on their services for such needs.

Eastern Shore Animal Hospital: Johnson-Larson Cynthia J DVM Reviews
Excellent care and customer service. They have wonderful staff who are very helpful and efficient and they have very reasonable pricing. We took our rabbit to get neutered and it was a very efficient process. Drove all the way up from VB just for their care.
Feb 26, 2025 · Francis AlvareIt is almost impossible to get an appointment with the vet. I took my yellow Lab there several times in her last months. I was told she was just getting older. On her last day, I called and begged someone to see her. She was in a great deal of pain. They told me to call the next day. Unfortunately, she died in so much pain and I was unable to help her.
Jun 28, 2024 · Jeanie RenggliWhat an amazing staff! I brought my cat in for a urinary tract infection and found caring folks who took great care of him! Highly recommend for anyone who wants wonderful pet care!!!
Jul 04, 2024 · Jen RymanBoarded my GSD for a few days while taking a trip back home. On the phone we were given one price but when returning, it was four times the amount. She also contracted a UTI while she was there supposedly, which required over $100 in meds and office visits, but our usual vet gave her a clear bill of health. Don't go here unless you want to throw your money away.
