All three Gentle Doctor locations offer overnight boarding and extended-stay boarding. All canine guests are given a morning and evening meal, three walks a day (or more if requested), a comfortable blanket for resting and lots and lots of love. We also give treats as requested and closely monitor any special medical or pharmaceutical needs of our guests. Our canine boarding facilities are equiped with 24-7 fire detection systems and recirculating ventilation systems to ensure a clean and safe place to stay. Each of the Gentle Doctor locations also offers cat boarding, and our Grant and West Maple locations have private cat condos so our feline friends don't get annoyed by those barking dogs! Private rooms offer a bit higher temperature to keep cats cozy during the winter months.We also offer a Sunday evening discharge hour from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm to allow you to pick up your pet at either our Grant or West Maple location. While cosmetic surgery for pets might sound a bit unusual, it is in fact quite common for many breeds, and even medically necessary for others. Tail docking is done on many breeds during the first days of puppyhood and is accomplished nearly painlessly in just a few seconds.Addressing excess skin folds in Shar Peis and other loose-skined breeds can greatly reduce the occurence of skin infections, and surgery on breeds with protruding eyes, such as pugs, can reduce eye irritation and infection. Most of these procedures, along with declawing for cats, can be done with minimal hospital stays and a regimine of at-home care. To meet that challenge, we have equipped our hospitals to handle almost every veterinary procedure -- from routine lab tests to emergency surgery.We process routine blood work, including heartworm tests, in house while you wait. Other tests are performed at an outside laboratory for the most comprehensive analysis and accurate results. Testing for parasites, feline immune virus (FIV), feline leukemia and bacterial cultures are all accomplished in our labs.

Our Gentle Doctor Animal Hospitals Pet Salon offers an individual grooming experience for your pet. We have customized bathing for your pet’s skin and hair care needs. We use gentle, low temperature dryers. We tailor hair cuts and styling to your individual pet and your preferences. We offer ear hair removal, ear cleaning and nail trimming. We groom both dogs and cats. If your pet needs medical services while he or she is here, we will schedule that as well in one convenient visit!

Unfortunately our offices cannot be open around the clock. In the event of an after-hours emergency, we refer our clients to VCA MidWest Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center. This facility is fully staffed 24-hours a day and best equipped for service after our normal business hours and during holidays. VCA MidWest Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center is located at 9706 Mockingbird Drive, two blocks south and one block west of 96th and "L." Please call the VCA MidWest Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in advance of your arrival at 402-614-9000. The VCA Emergency Team will call to let us know how your pet is doing on the next business day as well as provide copies of all procedures and test results.
Well Pet Care
Prevention is certainly the best medicine. We would rather keep your pet well than have to treat it for illness. Annual physical exams and vaccinations play a critical role in our preventive philosophy.The examination includes routine screening for heartworms and other parasites and can often detect early signs of disease and other problems that are easily treated in their early stages. In short, the annual exam is our most important means of fighting disease.

Listen, straight up — these people care about animals. They care about your pets. We’ve been taking our dogs here since at least 2017. One of whom unfortunately is no longer with us. :( We’ve seen both the female and male veterinarians (sorry I can’t remember names), various techs and probably most of the front desk staff and I can’t say I’ve had a bad experience with any of them. For transparency sake, I’ve definitely been frustrated sometimes when I’ve gotten answers like “well there’s various things that could be causing this” but hey, I can appreciate an honest answer of not knowing. Bottom line, they will be honest with you about your pets health and how to take care of them, they will not be judgmental when you freak out over nothing (as I have numerous times) and if there is something wrong they will genuinely try to find the cause. I don’t know that I’d trust taking my dog anywhere else.

The entire staff at the clinic are extremely personable, caring, and very knowledgeable.My previous veterinary clinic of 30 years had a pretentious culture.
