★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I’ve been taking my cats to SVH for years and have always had a positive experience. Dr. Tom is extremely knowledgeable and truly wants the best for your pets. My kitties always come home from the office calm, and not stressed. I’m less stressed as well, knowing my pets are in good hands here.
January 07 · Jade HoffmanWill NEVER bring another pet here.Brought our dog there due to health issues. They didn't solve the issue. They said she needed to be fixed and a few teeth removed. After the surgery there was only 4 teeth left, and the bill went up alot without notification.Never treated the health issue.Felt like all they cared about is getting money, not the pet.Curbside service only, including when pet is dying. They say.. you can say your goodbye in car, then they will euthanize pet and bring back out to you at car since they don't deal with cremation.
May 30 · Dylon BThese folks have an odd set-up where it is a bit like a drive-through. You don’t go inside and wait. Instead you bring your pet to the door and they meet you and take your pet inside for their services. While that seems odd, I will say they were extremely professional and caring and got my pet in when every other vet told me that there was a 4-6 week wait. In addition, I ordered some medication online and the prescription was approved almost immediately, I really appreciate having this vet available and they’ve done very well by our workshop kitty, Clementine.
March 01 · Meghan BeckExtremely disappointed. As a new client, my initial phone interaction was pleasant—friendly, knowledgeable staff. However, my appointment experience was unacceptable. I waited in the parking lot for over 30 minutes for a curbside pickup, despite being one of only two vehicles there. I had to call 18 times over 9 minutes to get through, only to wait an additional 25 minutes after being told someone would be "right out."When my cat was finally taken in, I voiced my concerns about handing over a pet who had recently undergone bladder surgery, especially under a curbside model that doesn’t allow direct communication with the vet. Less than five minutes later, I received a call saying they couldn’t treat my cat because he was "too aggressive." He’s never shown aggression with family or previous vets. He returned to me terrified and panting, while the staff member had a scratch on her arm. They didn’t charge me for the visit—an empty gesture considering the distress caused. If your team can’t calmly and competently handle a frightened 8-lb cat, perhaps you shouldn't be accepting new patients. I will never return and cannot recommend this practice to anyone.Wow. Just wow.To clarify a few things—at no point during my initial phone call was it mentioned that your office operated on a curbside-only model. That information was buried in the appointment confirmation email, which I assumed was an outdated COVID-era template. I expressed my concerns about this setup to your staff in the parking lot and was told, after handing over my post-surgical cat, that the doctor would “call me.” Not ideal.Second, the insinuation that I had been turned away by “two other veterinary offices” is false and inappropriate. We were simply looking for a new vet closer to home who accepted CareCredit after years of loyal care from a trusted provider in Harrisburg. Your attempt to frame my visit as a last resort was unprofessional and condescending. You also failed to mention an emergency to me during either of the two brief calls I eventually managed to get through—after 18 attempts. Even a quick heads-up would have gone a long way toward setting expectations. Instead, your staff let me sit in the parking lot for over 30 minutes with no explanation, and then another 25 after being told someone would be "right out."Finally, your response blames an 8-lb frightened cat for your inability to perform an exam, and then shifts the blame onto me for being upset about it. That is not only dismissive—it is deeply unprofessional.Fortunately, Companion Animal Hospital across town took Jasper in with no issue. He has since been seen there along with another of our five cats—calmly, respectfully, and without incident. Their 4.7-star rating (with three times the number of reviews as yours) now makes a lot more sense. To anyone reading this: Do yourself a favor and take your pet to a clinic where compassion and communication are still part of the standard of care.
May 13 · D. Scott TaylorMonday April 22 I called Selinsgrove Veterinary Hospital because my dog had been refusing food for days, was struggling to go to the bathroom and was vomiting. They were able to see her immediately. I could not afford all of the test that they wanted but I was able to pay for some of them, a blood test showed that her red blood cells were low and an x-ray showed some kind of mass below her stomach. The vet told me flat out that he was not sure if it was cancer, twisted intestines or a blockage. He then told me that she needed an exploratory surgery that at the time I couldn’t afford. He gave her medicine for vomiting and told me to contact them if I was able to come up with the money for the surgery (they gave me some options to try and helped me through the process of applying but I was unfortunately denied). The vet proceeded to call me over the next few days to check how Marley was doing and gave me suggestions of things I could try to encourage her to eat. That Wednesday my angel of a mom called me to tell me that she had the money and to call them and schedule the surgery. The lady that I spoke to immediately got all of our information and told me I could drop her off the next morning and she’d get her surgery that day. The day of the surgery I dropped her off and they were straight forward with me that the outcome may not be what I was hoping for and then told me to be on standby in case they needed to call with any urgent decisions. I dropped her off at 9 and a little after 11 I got a call saying the surgery went well and they had removed a mass from her ovary but due to how it was twisted they had to spay her as well (no problem, I was trying to save money to have that done anyways). I was told to call back the next morning around 10 to see when I could pick her up, and was told the vet would be in at 7 but was going into surgery pretty much immediately so he probably wouldn’t get to check on her until 10. I was surprised when he called me at 7:15 am to tell me that she was doing well and I could come between 9&10 to pick her up. Since then my baby girl has been THRIVING. Her recovery has been a breeze and she got her staples out last week. It’s hard to believe that about a month ago she was skin and bones and we weren’t sure how much longer we would have her and now she’s getting pretty much back to her old self. I can’t thank Selinsgrove Veterinary Hospital enough for helping my girl, and making sure that we can have many more years with her. The care that she received was excellent, I feel that they went above and beyond.
