Harrisburg Veterinary Clinic Introduce
For pet owners and farmers in Southeastern Illinois, the **Harrisburg Veterinary Clinic** stands as a key partner in animal health. Established in 1993, this clinic operates as a privately co-owned facility specializing in the care of both **small and large animals**, offering a wide range of services from routine check-ups to advanced surgical procedures. This dual focus is especially valuable in a region where both traditional companion pets and livestock require expert medical attention.
The clinic’s mission extends beyond the typical small **Animal Clinic** model. They are one of three branches working together to service Southeastern Illinois, providing in-house exams and treatment, mobile services like **Vaccination Clinics**, and even on-site **House Calls** for convenience. The presence of highly regarded veterinarians, such as **Dr. Carey Harbison and Dr. Pat York**, is a major asset, with clients frequently praising their expertise and dedication, particularly with homestead and **Large Animal** care. Clients credit these doctors with saving the lives of many animals over the years, demonstrating a deep commitment to animal welfare.
However, users should be aware of a persistent operational issue concerning client communication. As noted in customer feedback, while the veterinary team is highly skilled, there have been recurring difficulties with the phone system, where calls may go unanswered, potentially leading to missed or delayed appointments. This administrative hurdle means that while the quality of care—especially from the dedicated vets and friendly receptionists—is excellent, clients may occasionally need to visit the clinic in person to ensure their appointments are secured, particularly for follow-up care like medication adjustments for asthma or a **Medication Refill**.
Location and Accessibility
The Harrisburg Veterinary Clinic is centrally located and easily accessible for residents across Harrisburg and the surrounding communities of Southern Illinois. The clinic's address is **1101 N Main St, Harrisburg, IL 62946, USA**. This strategic location makes it convenient for both small animal owners and **Large Animal** clients who may utilize their **House Calls** or mobile services.
The facility prioritizes client convenience and accessibility, featuring:
- **Wheelchair accessible entrance**, ensuring a smooth and safe transition into the clinic for all visitors.
- **Wheelchair accessible parking lot**, providing designated and easily reachable parking spaces.
- A comfortable **Restroom** is also provided for client use during visits.
To ensure efficient scheduling and minimize wait times, **Appointments are recommended** for all veterinary services. Clients are encouraged to utilize the clinic's systems to book their visits, especially given the high demand for the services of their respected veterinary staff.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- The vets are amazing! 4 star review is given strictly because of the ongoing phone issues. Dr. Carey Harbison has saved many of my animals and Dr. Pat York has cared for many of my animals as well. They both have seen many of my homestead animals. However, I have my cat that needs to be seen for her follow-up for asthma but, I can't get anyone to answer the phone. I have a no show as well due to this issue. So, now I have to go to the clinic to get my cat in. The vets need to be aware of the receptionists not answering the phones. If it's not ringing then you need to get someone to check your phone lines. It rings but, never any answer. July 16 · Angeline Dunn
- First time we have ever been to this vet. My baby had a dental done today. They even called me after his dental to let me know how he did. The receptionists were all very friendly and we really liked Dr Werkheiser, he took time to explain everything that was done and answered any questions we had. He never acted like he was in a hurry. I would definitely recommend them!! July 08 · Kathy Rumade
- My senior cat’s tooth had suddenly fallen out, so I took him here. The veterinarian here said that it was no big deal and that the hole left behind from the tooth falling out would heal on its own. He reassured me that it was supposedly common that senior cat’s teeth fall out. Long story short, the hole never did heal and it was a struggle for him to eat and eating also caused a few instances where it would bleed. A short while later, my cat started acting off. I took him back to this veterinarian office and the same vet looked him over and said everything was fine and that maybe he just had an upset stomach from possibly swallowing blood from the hole being accidentally bothered by him eating. I deeply regret not following my gut instinct that he was wrong. As the hours went by, my cat showed that he was having trouble breathing. With no emergency vets near me and all other veterinarian offices closed, I was forced to wait until the morning. By the next morning, I was driving my cat to be sadly put to sleep as he had gotten much, much worse. Do not go here! Thankfully many pets have been saved from this place because they never answer their phones. July 23 · Abby Adams
- Never once have they picked up a damn phone. I’ve tried calling SO MANY TIMES. And it sucks because the doctors there are fantastic but the reception and nurses are a joke. The last time they clipped my bigger dogs nails they cut it so short he bled all day. DO NOT recommend and will not be going back. April 28 · Casey Daughenbaugh
- Very difficult to get a hold of by phone. I usually have to drive there and wait in line to get an appointment. However, once you get your foot in the door, fast efficient very professional service. June 28 · Wendy DalMonte
