We'll delve into their location, the specialized services they offer, unique aspects, and how local Virginia horse owners can connect with them. Our goal is to provide a clear, factual, and informative overview to help you make informed decisions about your horse's veterinary needs.
Equine veterinary care encompasses a broad spectrum of services, from routine vaccinations and dental care to advanced diagnostics, lameness evaluations, and emergency interventions. Horses, with their unique physiology and often demanding lifestyles, require specialized knowledge and equipment that not all general veterinary practices can provide. This is where dedicated equine clinics like Keswick Equine Clinic play a vital role in supporting the equestrian community in Virginia. Understanding the specialized services and approach of such a clinic is crucial for maintaining the optimal health of your horses, whether they are beloved companions, performance athletes, or working farm animals.
Keswick Equine Clinic is strategically located at 201 Taylor Ave, Gordonsville, VA 22942, USA. For horse owners situated within Gordonsville and the wider Central Virginia region, this location offers significant accessibility. Gordonsville itself is a well-known area within Virginia's horse country, making the clinic geographically relevant to a large population of equine enthusiasts and professionals.
The address on Taylor Ave suggests the clinic is positioned within a reachable area of Gordonsville, likely offering straightforward access for trailers transporting horses. When considering accessibility from a local perspective, horse owners should factor in the ease of navigation with a horse trailer, proximity to major roads, and typical travel times from their specific barns or farms within Orange, Albemarle, Louisa, and surrounding counties. The clinic's dedicated focus on equines means it is equipped to handle the arrival and departure of horses, which is a crucial aspect of accessibility for an equine-specific practice.
While a detailed, exhaustive list of all services provided by Keswick Equine Clinic is not explicitly given in the provided reviews, the nature of an "Equine Clinic" inherently implies a broad range of specialized horse health services. Based on general knowledge of such facilities and customer feedback, we can infer the following:
- General Equine Health and Wellness: This would typically include routine vaccinations, deworming programs, preventative care, wellness exams, and general health consultations tailored for horses.
- Lameness Examinations and Diagnostics: Given the commonality of lameness issues in horses, an equine clinic is expected to offer comprehensive lameness evaluations, utilizing various diagnostic tools such as radiography (X-rays), ultrasonography, and potentially more advanced imaging to identify the source of lameness.
- Pre-Purchase Examinations: A critical service for anyone acquiring a new horse, pre-purchase exams assess the overall health and soundness of a horse before a sale is finalized, helping potential buyers make informed decisions.
- Dental Care: Routine and advanced equine dental procedures, including floating (filing teeth), extractions, and addressing dental abnormalities, are essential for a horse's digestion and overall comfort.
- Reproductive Services: Many equine clinics offer breeding soundness examinations, artificial insemination, and mare and stallion management services, supporting breeding operations.
- Emergency and Critical Care: As with any animal, horses can experience medical emergencies. While direct mention of 24/7 emergency care isn't provided, a specialized equine clinic often has provisions for urgent cases, as implied by the initial negative review involving an urgent situation.
- Sports Medicine: For performance horses, services related to optimizing athletic performance and managing sports-related injuries are often available.
- Internal Medicine: Diagnosis and treatment of various internal conditions, such as colic, respiratory issues, and metabolic disorders.
Customer reviews shed light on several key features and highlights of Keswick Equine Clinic, offering insight into their approach and strengths, while also flagging a point for careful consideration.
- Specialized Equine Expertise: The very name "Equine Clinic" and the positive review consistently point to a dedicated focus on horses. This specialization means the veterinarians and staff are highly knowledgeable about equine physiology, diseases, and behaviors, which is a significant advantage for horse owners.
- Compassionate and Knowledgeable Team (Dr. Kramer): One review specifically praises Dr. Kramer and the team for being "organized, knowledgeable, and compassionate." This highlights a positive client experience centered around professional and empathetic care, particularly appreciated when dealing with sensitive animals like rescue horses.
- Understanding of Specific Breeds: The appreciation for their knowledge and liking of Morgans (a specific horse breed) suggests a nuanced understanding of breed-specific characteristics and needs, which can be reassuring for owners of particular breeds.
- Client Trust and Confidence: The sentiment "I know I’m in good hands with Dr Kramer and the whole team" indicates a high level of trust established between the clinic and its long-term clients, a critical factor in veterinary relationships.
- A Note of Caution Regarding Specific Interactions: It is important for potential clients to be aware of the highly concerning experience detailed in one review, which describes an instance where a mare was euthanized without the owner's explicit consent after a rapid assessment, with subsequent reports of rabies proving false. This review, while singular, underscores the critical importance of clear communication, informed consent, and thorough diagnostic processes in veterinary care. It advises potential clients to exercise caution and ensure full understanding and agreement on any proposed treatments or actions, especially in urgent situations.

Keswick Equine Clinic Reviews
Be careful with this clinic. SPECIAL DR SHELLY MC DANIEL .My one year old mare was sick and I called them to come to my house to see it. The vet arrived and just looked at it and checked its breathing and said that it was best to put it to sleep because according to her it was suffering and without my consent she gave it the injection killing my mare. Then she reported it as having rabies and the county people did the test and it wasn't rabies. They killed my mare without examining it or trying to see what it had. Plus the charge was high. Be careful with them.
Apr 24, 2025 · Olga MirandaI trust the care of my horses to Dr Kramer and the team at Keswick. They are organized, knowledgeable, and compassionate. I really appreciate how kind they are to my rescue horse, who is shy of people. I also appreciate that they know and like Morgans (because Morgans are the BEST). I know I’m in good hands with Dr Kramer and the whole team.
Jul 02, 2024 · Crozet VirginiaDr. Blythe Jones is an extremely intuitive veterinarian and always offers her very best to her clients. She is always thinking of the best interest of the horse while also helping clients through difficult decisions.A top notch Dr. and human.
Sep 20, 2023 · Christopher JonesI took a horse to this clinic as a favor for a neighbor when her truck broke down. She needed a health certificate to take her horse to Kentucky, the horse was seen by Dr. Shelly Mc Daniel's. Mrs Daniel's took the horses temp and it registered at 101.3 the last time she took it. The horse had no signs of swollen lymp nodes or any nasal discharge at all. This vet failed the horse even though by state law this horse passed and was not running a temp at all! She then said the horse would need a full blood panel before she would issue anything. Which is not required at all and not what the client was asking for. BEWARE USING THEM NOT TRUSTWORTHY AT ALL. ANY VET THAT LIES IS NOT A FRIEND OF YOUR PRECIOUS EQUINES....
