Nodaway Veterinary Clinic Introduce
For over 50 years, **Nodaway Veterinary Clinic** has stood as a cornerstone of animal health in Maryville, Northwest Missouri, and Southwest Iowa. As a dedicated, full-service **Veterinary care** provider, the clinic is uniquely positioned as a true mixed animal practice, offering expert services for companion animals (dogs and cats), **Food Animal** livestock (primarily cow/calf operations), and **Equine** patients. Their mission is straightforward: to provide the highest quality **Veterinary Services** available through compassionate, progressive medicine, and surgery.
This multi-doctor practice, which includes experienced **Veterinarian** professionals like Dr. Edward J. Powell and Dr. Edward C. Powell, is known throughout the region for its commitment to excellence. The practice’s long-standing history, which began in 1965, speaks to a deep, consistent partnership with the farming and pet-owning communities of Missouri. They understand that every animal, from a family dog to a commercial bull, is a vital part of their client's life or livelihood. The clinic is equipped with excellent haul-in facilities for both large animals and a well-appointed general facility for companion pets, ensuring they can handle a vast array of medical needs.
The practice is highly advanced in preventative and specialized care. For small animals, they offer everything from routine **Annual Vaccinations** to complex **Surgical Procedures** and comprehensive **Pet Boarding**.
A critical element of their service is the provision of 24-Hour **Emergency Services**. In the rural setting of Missouri, having access to reliable, round-the-clock emergency care is invaluable for all types of animals. The clinic’s willingness to participate in emergencies demonstrates a strong commitment to their patients' welfare outside of regular business hours. However, transparency is key, and while the veterinary staff is highly praised for their expertise and dedication, recent client feedback has indicated areas for administrative improvement, specifically concerning customer service at the front desk and communication during high-stress situations. The practice's core value—providing the finest professional veterinary care—is consistently reflected in the quality of their medical team and the depth of their advanced capabilities.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- The younger female receptionist was VERY obviously not interested in helping us. We spoke over the phone initially and she was friendly, but in-person she clearly did not like her job. Very dismissive and unconcerned about our problems during one of the most stressful times of our pet’s lives. They don’t even have their voicemail box set up, so you can’t leave a message after-hours or anything of that nature. Which seems crazy to me, for any business to not have an answering system. The actual vet techs are very friendly and personable, but the receptionist is the first person you see and talk to when you walk in. They should hire someone with better people skills. I will not be returning here after the way I was treated.Edit: We also had to wait over 45 minutes to be seen despite being the ONLY people in the lobby waiting. I understand having a wait if you are busy or are doing something complex with a patient, but perhaps don’t schedule appointments for a specific time if you cannot assist that customer until nearly an hour later. Or hire more staff. July 15 · Kendrick Foss
- Recently brought my dog here to be spayed. I picked her up at the time I was given and she was soaked wet (unsure what was all over her belly and legs). They did wipe her down with a cloth to attempt to clean her off. I was given no medications for pain for her. 3-4 days later she has been yelping in pain almost hourly even when she’s laying still or standing without moving. The pain has been bad enough that she arches her back and shakes. I called the vet to see if they could take a look at her and make sure she’s healing okay. The person answering the phone asked the vet who could be heard in the background saying I needed better common sense because this is normal dog behavior as some are fine and others are more reactive. I used to love this vets office with my old dog. I never saw or got to speak with the vet during this entire process not even the day of her spay so to now be insulted (which I’m sure he didn’t intend for me to hear) by saying I lack common sense to understand how dogs are is ridiculous and unacceptable. The patient care through this process has been subpar and frankly very poor. April 01 · Danielle Schalk
- Did not take my cats weight or age. Vet said her bladder was twice the size and she had a bladder infection. No tests done. Was told she was given an allergy shot a few days later she was panting and weak and wouldn't eat. ER clinic said she was in heart failure from a steroid shot. Called NVC and they tried to tell me Depo-Medrol is not a steroid which is a lie. The blatant disregard of asking information about animals before treament is ridiculous. They refused to see her again. We took our sweet angel to be put to sleep today at a different clinic. July 22 · omgitstaro S
- I took my boyfriends cat here to get rid of fleas and worms, I had an appointment and they had me sit in the waiting room for an hour, when I finally got called back, there was no privacy, didn't shut any doors, I was in there for not even 2 minutes and he gave me a flea collar and said that we were done so i reminded him he also had worms and he gave me a singular topical solution, for worms ??? And that was it, I go to pay and it's almost $130 for a flea collar and a singular topical solution, I basically just paid to wait in a room for an hour, I could've just gone to the store and not have spent almost $130 and not put my cat through the stress, definitely will not be going back here April 26 · Alyse Stone
- i took my cat gizmo in because he wasn’t eating, he lost a bunch of weight and there was blood in his mouth. i waited 20minutes in the waiting room then they took us back. they felt his sides and said his bladder was twice the size. didn’t run any urine tests or blood tests. they prescribed amoxicillin for 10 days twice a day and told me he had a bladder infection. a week after i stopped giving it to him he stopped eating again and there was blood in his urine. so i called them. they wouldn’t take me as an emergency. they told me to give him amoxicillin for two weeks. even tho they only said 10 days the first time. there soonest appointment was a week out. they said the amoxicillin would be fine until he could get seen. a couple days later there was still blood in his urine so i took him to a different vet. they took him back did a blood test. said his kidney levels were THROUGH THE ROOF and that his kidneys were failing. so our options were to pay 1100-1400 dollars to flush his kidneys which may or may not work. or make him his comfortable as possible. or put him down. so we decided to put him down. do not bring your animals here!
