Choosing North Georgia Veterinary Specialists is a decision often made during a time of urgency or when a pet requires a level of care beyond what a general practice can provide. The clinic's role as a life-saving facility is highlighted by a grateful customer who shared the story of their English Bulldog, Nikki, who was in respiratory distress. The account of the staff meeting them with a stretcher and working tirelessly to save the dog's life is a powerful testament to their dedication and skill. The continuous updates, even throughout the night, provided peace of mind during a terrifying experience. This level of service, from the front desk staff to the doctors, solidifies the clinic’s reputation for compassionate and competent emergency care. However, it is also important to consider all aspects of a patient’s experience, and another review highlights a different side of specialized care. The owner of a German Shepherd named Athena shared a heartbreaking story about a staph infection that was not properly managed after a hip replacement surgery, leading to a debilitating condition. The client expressed immense frustration with the lack of urgency, follow-up, and accountability, and ultimately had to seek care elsewhere, at a different hospital, to save their dog's life. This review brings to light the importance of thorough post-operative care and the need for clear communication and proactive management of complications. For a pet owner, this kind of experience can be incredibly difficult, and it underscores the need to be your pet's advocate. While the clinic is undoubtedly equipped for complex surgeries, this review suggests that a potential client should inquire about post-operative protocols and communication channels to ensure a smooth recovery process. The presence of both glowing life-saving stories and critical reviews of post-op management provides a balanced picture, indicating that while the clinic is capable of miracles in emergency situations, clients should be prepared to be an active participant in their pet's long-term care journey.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I cannot thank the wonderful people that saved my babies life enough! Our beloved English Bulldog, Nikki, had a bad experience getting groomed. For whatever reason she became too excited and began to go into respiratory distress . It was truly an awful experience and we were so scared that we were going to lose her! She could not breathe and was not doing well! When her primary veterinarian saw what was happening they immediately jumped into action! They did not have an oxygen tank to put her in and called North Georgia Veterinary Specialists. Her vet transported her to them and I followed. They immediately met us in the lobby with a stretcher and got to work on our Nikki! The staff at the front desk were super nice and friendly! They took me to a room while they got to work on Nikki! I was there for several hours and was constantly kept updated! My husband arrived and we got to visit Nikki. She was in the oxygen tank and was somewhat improved. We went home and they kept us updated throughout the night. Every time I called they were great! Nikki came home the next morning as she was getting distressed again after being put in a regular cage on room air. They continued to check on Nikki for the next several days! These guys saved our dog and we are forever grateful! They are amazing from the front staff, the vet technicians, and the doctors!
July 18 · Kelly MitchellI’m heartbroken and furious about what happened to my 1-year-old German Shepherd, Athena, under the care of this hospital—and specifically, Dr. Cursio.Athena underwent a hip replacement here. While the surgery itself was successful, the aftermath was a nightmare. She developed a staph infection shortly after the procedure. Instead of digging deeper, Dr. Cursio continued to throw antibiotics at the issue without ever investigating the root cause. There was no sense of urgency, no proactive follow-up, and no accountability.Athena got worse. She became unable to walk, was in constant pain, and the infection eventually spread to her spine—completely deteriorating her spinal discs.I was told we might have to put her down. I had already spent nearly $20,000 at this clinic with no resolution—just more prescriptions and vague advice. To make matters worse, there was a lapse in her antibiotics due to their failure to follow up, which allowed the infection to advance even further.Had I not had the ability to pivot and seek care elsewhere, or the funds to do so, Athena would be dead.Thankfully, I got her to Ross Animal Hospital, where she received stem cell therapy, rehab, and compassionate, competent care. They saved her life. This hospital—while capable of surgery—completely failed at every other level of care.If you're considering bringing your pet here, please don’t. I do not recommend this place to anyone.Athena deserved better. Every pet does. ❤️
April 24 · Kim SchaperAmazing service! They took the best care of my dog in our deepest time of need. Natalie was having seizures and refusing to eat. They nursed her, loved her, and did all they could to make her better. In the end Natty had to be put to rest, and they took that extremely serious and let it be out decision. 100% recommend
June 14 · Paul AnthonyI brought my dog Lily in for a TPLO surgery in May 2024 when she started limping and could no longer enjoy going on walks. Dr. Curcio and the surgery techs were amazing and took such good care of my baby during her stay. Our wedding was planned for August and I planned for her to walk down the aisle. Thankfully it was just enough time for her to fully recover and her fur to grow back! She had to have the other side done in December. Now she’s fully recovered and back to her old self running and playing. Having her knees repaired added years to her life. Thank you NGVS!
May 21 · Kelsey CollinsI genuinely am concerned now after reading these comments. I brought my pet coco after I noticed he was unable to use the restroom, and his stomach was hard. I looked them up I saw the reviews were good but just now im reading through each comment and that makes me feel really guilty as I was rushing to find an emergency hospital for him. I took him and the lady nurse or doctor attended coco and I she asked her questions with attitude then when i gave her to him i noticed he had urinated my pants and I make a small comment about it. Then she proceeds to question if he peed on me? I said I think so im not sure. She then responded with attitude “well were you wet before you grabbed him?” I said no. She took him to the back a couple minutes later Dr. Dempsey comes out to tell me coco needs an extra done that theres a probability he has kidney stones and it will be $450 and if it is that he will need surgery. I said okay that fine. Another 30 minutes passed by and he comes out saying that he didn’t find any stones and that most likely its a mass and it was that they could probably give medication for it to shrink it because it would be inoperable. And my best option would be surgery for the next day. Which was a Saturday and he said I need $5,500.00 deposit tonight to get started. I asked would i be able to take him to another doctor to see what they say he said “they’ll tell you the same and probably won’t do anything since it the weekend and especially easter day weekend. So that made me feel overwhelmed. I told i dont have that amount he said i could apply for carecredit which I got approved for. So, I proceeded to leave coco. Dr. Dempsey then called me at 2AM that same not to tell me that found a tumor with the ultrasound and it was a poor prognosis and best would be to put him down. And if i wanted to he would talk to surgeon next day. Of course that broke my heart it destroyed me. He called me at 8AM and left a voicemail and said prognosis was not looking good and they could probably place a stent but i would short term. I called after voicemail i spoke to Dr. Edwards and he said he was going by would Dr. Dempsey informed him about and best would be to put him down. So after hear there was I decided to do one of hardest decisions of my life and put coco down. They were sweet and respectful when i went in on Saturday to put him down. In the end, I really hope they were being truthful and honest about my pet coco and that there was no other option because it would be so unfair to have put him down knowing there was maybe more options in him surviving.
